The halfling man stares at you incredulously as you speak, a look pure confusion on his face. When you've finished he says, "Attack? I don't know what you're talking about, I... I haven't attacked anyone!" He tries to adjust himself beneath the ropes before continuing, "I remember a peddler... He stopped by our village and offered free samples of his work, 'magic mushrooms' he called them. We halflings try to be helpful and are curious by nature so most of us were willing to try them. I remember Elber grew taller after he ate his, Eta's skin turned blue, and Leri just flat disappeared. I was a little scared, but my curiosity got the better of me so I ate mine. That's all I remember." He looks around, back down at his bindings, then up at you, "My name is Larby... Did I...? I didn't... hurt someone... did I?"

"I'm not planning to hurt you, yet, but you'd better start telling some truths or that can change quickly. Tell me what these magic things really are and why they are in your possession." Elwyn tells the charlatan sternly. Intimidation: 21 Insight to determine if he starts telling any truths:15
Ariana - Daveth stops briefly when Ruby calls out to him and you make your move. You dive with arms outstretched... and you feel the soft fleece of Daveth's furry body just slip through your hands as you land on the ground. Daveth runs off again, deeper into the forest.
Ruby - You follow Ariana and Daveth as best you can through the dense undergrowth. You see Daveth pause after you call his name, but he is startled away again by the elven woman. She dives and just misses him. He stops for a second to regard you with the hourglass shaped pupils of his now yellow eyes, before prancing further away.
Ariana gets up, determined, and keeps chase. She watches the sheep's movement and tries to determine a probably path so she can possibly cut him off and get him between her and Ruby.
Elwyn - The man stammers and stutters, "Now, now, now there's no call for violence sir, I'm just a man trying to survive just as you are! I'll answer any of your questions to the best of my ability." He sighs and continues, "I created the wand and stone myself, though they mightnot be as effective as I implied... I've always had a bit of magic about me, though not much more than a bit. The mushrooms I stole from an Alchemist in Neverwinter. I wasn't sure what they'd do so I... Offered some to a village of halflings I found on my way to Waterdeep. They all accepted them willingly I might add! Once I learned they were magical I decided to sell them. There's no harm in a little temporary magical fun, is there? Your friend will surely return to his normal form before too long." He looks down at his hands and says, "I'm turning as purple as my robes sir, you have my confession, now release me!
His confessions seem to you to be about as much honesty as he's capable of. You're fairly confident that you aren't being lied to.
"You just sit tight and I'll discuss with my associates what should happen to you." Elwyn says, but loosens the rope just a bit before returning to the others, still keeping an eye on the charlatan. As soon the others return Elwyn relates to them the information in post #188.
Ruby will try to run at Baaaah-veth from a side to force him to run into Ariana´s path. "Daveth please stop, we can help you!" She shouts once again hoping he can understand what she´s saying.
Wake will release the halfling with an apology. “I believe you. And I’m glad that you are yourself again.” Wake will say while he coils and stows his rope. “Can you find your way back to your home or will you require some assistance?”
Ruby - Daveth stops again as you call out to him. He stands still, breathing heavily from the exertion of the run. He watches you and Ariana, but doesn't run away this time.
Wake - Larby rubs his arms where the ropes were binding him as he says, "Thank you, I understand." He stands and begins dusting himself off, but stops as he sees the purple vomit staining his clothes, "What the heck?" He looks himself over and says, "I'm not sure... Where are we?" Larby turns about, looking for familiar landmarks. He stops and turns back to you, "You uh... You didn't answer my question. Did I hurt someone?"
Ruby, also out of breath, will come close to Baaaah-veth and sit down in front of him, taking his woolly head into her small hands. "Thank you, I guess that means you can still uderstand us, huh?" She says with a big smile while absentmindedly petting his very soft fur. "Don´t worry we´ll fix this, there´s nothing to fear. Now, let´s get back to the others and get you back together."
“Oh, I am sorry. It has been a little hectic here lately. My name is Wake. Our group encountered the same peddler that your village did and one of our members also succumbed to one of those ‘magic mushrooms’. Then you burst forth from the brush and attacked the peddler. We put both of you to sleep to try to get to the bottom of this whole unfortunate affair. I have not checked on his condition since the attack but, honestly, he had it coming.”
Wake will continue, “He is right over here. If you would like to talk to him … or perhaps we could deliver him to your community to pass judgement for any damages he has caused your folks.”
Ruby & Ariana - Daveth is still shaking as Ruby pets him, but seems to relax after a bit. When Ruby stands to lead Daveth back to the camp, he stays right by her side, nuzzling her cheek and making small sheep noises as he follows along.
