Wake would also like to investigate the footmarks to verify they are bipedal humanoid vs. animal tracks. He would also be looking for indication of number of creatures walking and/or drag marks.
With a quick prayer, he will implore Selune for guidance.
You hear something echoing from somewhere on the second floor. Movement and what sounds like a muffled voice calling out.
Wake -
The foot prints appear to be from multiple bi-pedal humanoids. It's hard to say with certainty exactly how many, but you count at least five distinct sets excluding your own and those of your companions. There don't appear to be any drag marks that you can see.
”We’re not alone here. Probably five or more others have passed this way recently. Which way first? We should probably clear the house by floors and not paint ourselves into a corner.”
Kulogall tips his head to the side, says “I don’t hear anything. Where is it?” He looks down to the footprints when pointed out. He holds his staff ready and stays on alert.
Wake will lead the way upstairs trying as best he can to creep and be as silent as possible. Shield high and murmuring prayers in constant commune with Selune, relying on her guidance.
All - The steps to the second floor sag and groan in protest as you ascend. Wake, Ariana, and Elwyn manage to avoid the noisiest spots and find themselves at the top of the staircase. There is a balcony overlooking the foyer that leads to two more hallways to the left and another hallway to the right that appears to have three more rooms.
Elwyn -
You hear more sounds coming from the hallway to the right. You also see a small object laying in the dust and chips of plaster that litter the floor throughout the house. The object is on the floor in the middle of the hallway roughly between the two doors.

Wake & Elwyn -
You hear more sounds coming from the hallway to the right. You also see a small object laying in the dust and chips of plaster that litter the floor throughout the house. The object is on the floor in the middle of the hallway roughly between the first two doors. To the left along the balcony, the floor looks severely water damaged about 15ft from the top of the stairs.

Wake will hold everyone up from the top of the stairs to study the floor for footprints. His expectation is that there will be no path heading towards the water-damaged floor to the left, but will check anyway. His expectation is that the foot traffic is to the right but is especially interested if the traffic travels through or around the debris in the hallway between the two doors or just enters the first door. His prayer for guidance now shifts to his rightfully interpreting what he sees.
Elwyn, Kulogall, & Ariana - Please make another perception check as you head back toward the rest of the group.
Wake will whisper,
”Ghosts don’t leave footprints.Their path should indicate safe passage, where we shouldn’t expect floorboards to break beneath us.”

Elwyn sneaks back to the main group and whispers. "There's people upstairs, thought you wanted to know."
Wake will respond,
”I like the idea of clearing this house top to bottom. I don’t like conceding the high ground.”

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
"So upstairs then. Perhaps you should take point now Wake, with that big shield of yours." Elwyn suggests.
Ariana whispers, "To me it sounded like a muffled voice calling out from upstairs, perhaps for help. The boy may be up there. Let's go!"
She starts toward and up the stairs, keeping an eye out for movement.

"I guess were going then." Elwyn says and follows Ariana as silently as he can.
