Unable to reach the fight and impact it right away, Yulmiath decides to linger a bit in the statue room. Having a second, more careful look around can help uncover the room's secrets. In a way, it does, although it is the dragonborn's ears that give him a hint. Yulmiath picks up on the sound of sloshing water coming from within the Umberlee statue in front of him. He has no doubt now that the statue is hollow and it houses water. That said, it seems a little strange that the water inside is swirling a bit while the statue is perfectly immobile.

Hun grumbled and started to keep up the adjustments, only to stop with a huff. "We'll be here all day at this rate,"He quietly groused while pulling out the Yklwa. "Alright, one side. Let me at it. And you too, Mrs. Thinn. Beat the dust right off this thing."He further commanded(of the construct) as he rushed about and leaped up trying to pin the rug back into the ground, before Mrs. Thinn's now more massive claws rotated rapidly and appeared to pull from energy. Energy that she unhesitating delivers in a powerful blow down at the rugfian!

It seemed Kairus ran into an enemy he could not much do with. However, he still had friends he very much could help at least. Or to try to. He began with the newest of them - Mrs. Thinn.
The musical phrase of expanding one's world was supposed to help the contract fight the nasty moving carpet, while a few encouraging words (Kairus never forgets to encourage others to work harder) went towards the master of the lovely Mrs. "Great work, Grandpa, keep that rug right there!"
With everything in order, Kairus tried to free some space near the aggressive furniture and retreat into the corner seemingly devoided any potential attacker. (MN 84)
Kairus switches strategies, pivoting from frontliner to support. His magic expands the metal forming Mrs. Thinn, and encourages Hun to get into the fight too (Bardic Inspiration.)
His job done, for now, Kairus retreats a bit. The decision momentarily reveals a weakness in his defenses, and the rug construct attempts to exploit it:
(@Blue: I'm confirming that Silvery Barbs was not used above.)
Avoiding the rug's grasp, Kairus clears up enough space for Hun to join the fight up close and personal. The kobold advances and pierces the rug, before commanding Mrs. Thinn to strike as well. (Rug of Smothering takes 10 magical piercing damage.)
The enlarged automaton does as told, ripping part of the rug apart. (Rug of Smothering takes 11 force damage.)
Simultaneously to the two-pronged attack, Rhogal forces new mold to bubble up on the rug's surface. (Rug of Smothering takes 2 necrotic damage.)
Still "alive", the rug tries to envelop another target:

The view from the corner was incomparably better than the one from the inside of the dusty carpet and Kairus fully enjoyed it now. Unable to add his usual magic touch to the scenery, he resorted to simple shooting. The size of the current target practice gave some hope that the shot will be true.
Attack: 13 Damage: 6
"This thing is practically begging to meet your axe, Yulmiath!" Invited the triton his Dragonborn friend. (Bardic Inspiration to Yulmiath)
Relying on more mundane tactics, Kairus pulls up his crossbow and releases a preloaded bolt. He has to count on a lucky ricochet off Hun's shield (Luck point used), but he managed to add another hole to the animated piece of tapestry. (Rug of Smothering takes 9 piercing damage.)
His shield still ringing, Hun tries to put one more hole on the rug but his shishkabober misfires this time. It is up to Mrs. Thinn to put the other construct down then, and so she does. With one last force-charged punch, the piece of carpet loses the last bits of magic animating it. (Rug of Smothering takes 12 force damage and is DEFEATED.)
Not wanting to leave any doubt that the thing is dealt with, Rhogal sets more of his mold to eat up the rug. Seeing no reaction from it, the dwarf is convinced the fight is now over.
As the rug goes down, the group's attention is captured by another being, though their words ring in the Aquan language. Only Kairus is able to understand as the party turns to the cage and finds it now holding a prisoner... of sorts. A ghostly silhouette appears within, formed of gaseous blues shapes and eerie deep blue lights. Their features are a mix of those of a humanoid and those of a sea creature. It feels like someone took Kairus's appearance as inspiration and then tuned his biology to lean even harder toward aquatic features. Their legs come together to form a near seamless fishtail, their ears are elongated and floaty, many spike-filled fins of webbed material adorn their arms, torso, and back. They speaks: "Wimm fupi ewiphist, cav vji netvisnopf ug vusvasi tvomm sineopt. Bsoph ep ipf vu jis vuu epf tiv ni gsii!"
@Kairus:
"Well done avengers, but the mastermind of torture still remains. Bring an end to her too and set me free!"
WE ARE NOW OUT OF INITIATIVE. YOU MAY DO AS YOU WILL.
"Oh, I am not the only one seeing that ... something?" Kairus pointed at the cage in a pleasant surprise. "Thought I am having hallucinations from something in the dust of this rug."
"The ghost - or whatever it is - is asking if we can kill " the mastermind of torture". Someone inside this building, I presume. Which, of course, can be yet another trap."Being as kindhearted as he was, Kairus, despite the very justifiable suspicion, nevertheless answered in the flowy Aquan. "My good ghost, we went through every room of this temple by now. I can assure you, everyone here is dead. Unless you count living furniture in which case we need to stab a few more objects. Whoever that torture was, she died centuries ago, you are free now."
Obviously, he explained to the others what he was saying to the ghost.
The Packers' attention turn to the ghostly aquatic figure in the cage, who responds to Kairus's questions with a statement that carries an air of certainty with it. The ghost's lack of a physical brain does not impact its deductive powers, it would seem, judging by the fact they switch their speech to the Common language in order to poke a whole in the triton's logic: "I am dead, and I am still here. Those two states are not mutually exclusive. I am still a prisoner of this cage and of this world. The B*tch Queen torturer remains. I can sense her nearby. Seek her, destroy her, and let me rest. Siburrath's spirit will repay you!"
(@Blue: You are an aquatic creature yourself. Please roll a history, nature, or medicine check to see if you recognize this creature.)
Yulmiath rubs his chin as Kairus chats away with the spirit and provides some translation services.
"So presumably the spirit wants us to kill their torturer, and we're in Umberlee's temple, do they mean going after the Sea B*tch herself?"
Ever a creature of habit, Yulmiath spits on the floor at the mention of her name, "Because I think she's out of our league. If they mean someone else, then who? Is there somewhere we haven't been in here? Or is it more a symbolic thing, maybe some weird magic keeping them trapped that if we could remove would be alright?"

"Unless the spirit means caves - we covered everything. Except for one room with a blocked entrance. Do not remember anything alive there, though. And no, I do not think the spirit is talking about the Goddess here. "Her torturer" not herself. Right?"
Just in case Kairus clarified the matter with the ghost.
"Siburrath... Sounds awfully familiar. Not the name but the type of names, if you know what I mean." He scratched his head thinking.

His job done, for now, Kairus retreats a bit. The decision momentarily reveals a weakness in his defenses, and the rug construct attempts to exploit it:
-> Smother vs. Kairus: Attack: 9. On a hit, target becomes grappled, restrained, blinded and begins suffocating.
