(@Ori: Oops, I guess I forgot to detail the shadow's new position there, but it was in melee with Yulmiath. Also, for the sake of thoroughness, let me state that your Bardic Inspiration die was not used.)
Mrs. Thinn does not waste the opportunity to punch the enemy as soon as it moves and reveals its position; also, sparkles! (Shadow#2 takes 9 force damage.)
Convinced he holds no need to save face, Hun springs forward and delivers the last blow to the enemy, bringing the fight to its end. The shadow disperses and the group can breath a bit easier now. (Shadow#2 takes 11 magical piercing damage and is DEFEATED.)
Mrs. Thinn was ready to strike the enemy again but the shadow is no more.
REMINDER ON THE ROOM'S DESCRIPTION:
"Given a few seconds to finally look around their destination, the party sees another irregularly shaped natural chamber. Rising up from the floor of this damp, dark cave is a grotesque, ten-foot-tall statue of a sea monster with glistening eyes and tentacles. A raised stone basin, its base carved to resemble a surging wave, stands nearby. Against the walls are two smashed crates, two clay urns, and three rotted wooden chests. On the southeast corner of the chamber, the group spots a passage leading them back to the area with the blow holes."
"Yulmiath, Kairus, and Hun step a bit farther into the chamber. The triton is quick to note that neither the gusty side passage nor the many broken containers nearby should demand their attention. Indeed, the smashed crates, the clay urns, and two of the rotting chests are empty. That said, a third rotting chest is closed and still seems functional. Separately, Kairus also notices something interesting about the stone basin in the chamber. Pipes built into its base have filled the basin with seawater to the brim, until it began overflowing. At the bottom of the basin, under some 10 gallons of seawater, are two rusty iron keys."
"Yulmiath focuses instead on the large, tentacled statue dominating the space here. The barbarian also seems particularly interested at the figure's eyes. It soon becomes apparent that the piece depicts a Kraken, and the dragonborn would know from sea tales that this is known to be one of Umberlee's many forms. Moreover, the statue appears to be covered with slimy mildew."
"Yulmiath goes around the statue [...] Now that he is back here, despite all the darkness, the barbarian catches a glint of metal on the ground."
WE ARE NOW OUT OF INITIATIVE. YOU MAY DO AS YOU WILL.
Kairus let out a heavy sigh and symbolically wiped the sweat from his brow (amphibians do not sweat). "Truly felt like I just fought for my life against those two. So exhausted I just want to lay down and sleep for the next week or two."
He did no such thing, but instead walked to the rotting chest that still seemed functional and looked it over (for 15) then poked the chest with the dagger and if not beaten back, opened the lid.
Feeling weak as a kitten, Yulmiath slaps a brave face on it instead of whining like a certain Triton he could name...
He'd like to. These are his comrades in arms, his fellow Packers, his friends... But when all you've got are big muscles that let you hit things really hard, when that's all you're bringing to the party, maybe it's best not to let the others know you aren't even sure you're able to carry your greataxe, nevermind swing it!
Quickly changing the subject, Yulmiath squats down in the dirt and brushes his fingers over the dirt floor where he saw the familiar glint of metal just a moment ago.
"I think I've got something here! Something shiny maybe?"
"Yea, take that you punk." Hun taunted under his breath while with drawing the spear, before then swinging it around and letting the butt of it tap into the ground as he turned to look over the others. Two of which he was surprised to see still active despite appearing and even admitting to be more exhausted than ever, but the Kobold hadn't the willpower or means to stop them. Instead, he motioned for Mrs. Thinn to start clearing a space where one of the broken Urns were at so he could at least sit down and start to take a breather.
"Well if you can reach it, bring it around to the front for the rest of us to look at Mr. Yully. And while I can't say I'm eager to say what I'm 'bout to say, but let's keep the exploring to a minimum now. At least until we've had a chance to dress wounds and actually catch our breath again."

Kairus voices his tiredness as he approaches the one container in the room which might still hold something of value instead. Noticing that it is unlocked and after poking it to be sure it doesn't have any teeth, the triton then opens the chest. It contains several silver and copper coins (120sp and 70cp) in a moldy sack, two potions of healing in flasks made from hollowed-out sea urchins, a sphere of clear glass that feels tingly to the touch, and a coral crown of intricate design (worth 250gp). As Kairus lifts the crown for a closer look, he swears he hears a sigh of relief in the wind coming into the cave.
Yulmiath keeps his thoughts to himself but, like the bard, goes digging for treasure. He finds his reward in a muddy patch behind the statue. It is yet another silver emblem of Umberlee, which also gives off the hint of slight magical enchantment to the touch. (OOC: As a reminder, each of these emblems is worth 25gp.)
@Yulmiath & @Kairus: Please give me a religion check.
In the meantime, Mrs. Thinn clears a sitting spot for Hun, who is also curious about what Yulmiath is retrieving. Separately, he suggests the group takes a breather. Krodhen agrees, but asks a question to the group before he can start relaxing: "Anyone interested in the two keys at the bottom of the water basin here? Say the word and I'll try reaching in."
"Another shiny bit of bling if anyone wants it? Did we pass any keyholes in this place that those keys would fit? I think the only room we've not been in is that one that's caved in."
The triton looked over the treasure he just un-chest-ed with quite the curiosity. "A true treasure of a seafarer! Just look at those flasks! Someone clearly knew what he was doing."The coral crown was an interesting thing too. But the most intriguing item was the globe. "Hm... At first, it looked like a sinker for the nets - people use all kinds of strange things for fishing. But it feels like magic. Does it feel like magic to you, Grandpa?" He brought the thing to the kobold for a proper examination and found enough strength to join Krodhen in his meditations over two keys at the bottom of the basin.
"Before we retrieve anything clearly guarded, let's indeed take a break. If that basin begins attacking us or summons someone to attack us, we better be ready."
While the group was taking the rest he asked the most important question right now. "Are we there done yet? I mean, we did not find any murderers - unless those shadows were one of them. And come to think of it, in addition to the constant draft in here I did hear some suspicious sigh of relief in the wind. Could be our spook who finally realized he was free all along."He shook his head - tiredness did affect his thoughts. "What I mean to say, did not we see everything here to see now?"
"For once I have to agree with Young Blue over there. Plus if I'm gonna have an actual chance to scan this area for any lingering magic, that'll take time. And we don't want to get caught out from some marlarkey involving the water burning the "unfaithful" or some nonsense."Hun scoffed. "Now as far as being done with this place... well, it'a take time to escavate that one room near the entrance. But honestly speaking, I don't think we need bother. If there was anything more to really trouble the young'uns of the isle, it'a be the natural hazards we crossed to get to this room, or anything that might move in well after we're gone. And as far as I'm concern that's a 'them' problem at that point!"The kobold admitted with a huff and looked away grumbling.
However, after a moment or two passes he snorts again and adds, "Though, we can always advise them to fix the bridge at least... on their own time, of course. I'm no construction expert, but I do know my way around woodcarving and such, so... Eh!"Hun waves a hand dismissively. "So leave the pool keys be. They won't get any more rusted then they, assuming they already are, >if< they are."He adds as he plop down in whatever space Mrs. Thin cleared and tried to start tending to his own injuries.
As Yulmiath finds another emblem of Umberlee, the pieces start to come together in Kairus's mind.
@Kairus:
You recount the tidbits of information you have swirling in your head at the moment, some of which are new thoughts:
The captain and crew of the B*tch Queen became castaways in the Snout of Omgar.
The Typhoon Palace was built for them after they ingratiated themselves to the tortles.
They lived here for many years but, supposedly, disappeared without leaving any trace.
The captain of the ship was a female human, who was a cleric of Umberlee.
There are plenty of Umberlee symbology left laying around, including those slightly enchanted emblems.
You think you identified some vestigial female traits in the now deceased Giant Slug.
The Giant Slug had the ability to cast spells and was able to temporarily give life to the Kraken statue in the room (another piece of Umberlee symbology.)
The crew of the B*tch Queen vanished, but there sure were plenty of shadows in this temple willing to protect the place.
Even some of the treasure you found is Umberlee-themed. Throwing a moldy sack full of coins into the sea is how many sailors offer tribute to Umberlee. Sea urchin potions and a coral crown are also a bit on the nose.
You know Umberlee to be quite the vengeful deity. One slight is enough to earn the Wavemother's wrath and be cursed in some horrific way.
Torture is not above those who faithfully follow the Stormgoddess of the Seas.
On Kairus's and Hun's advice, Krodhen refrains from reaching for the keys in the water basin for now. The half-orc confirms that the keys look rusted.
While setting up for an hour of rest, the Snackers begin to talk about next steps. Yulmiath and Hun mention the blocked off room but the overall sentiment seems to be turning toward considering the exploration of the temple completed. Some minor mysteries and carpentry work need to be left behind for the tortle youth, it seems.
(OOC: Please go ahead and roll your Hit Dice. Your may also complete the Short Rest. @Drache: Feel free to roll Hit Dice for Krodhen as well.)
While the group rested, Kairus was contemplating the fate of the people who built this place. With the help of music, of course. "I might be mistaken, of course," (judging by the tone he did not believe he was) "but I think I know what happened here long ago. From all we saw and all we hear, from the laws of the universe and the storytelling, it had to be something like this."
He touched the stings and sang the first verse of the future ballad:
To Turtle Island, a ship once sailed, With a captain, skilled and fierce, of unwavering faith. She warshiped Umberlee, the Stormgoddess of Seas, Her ship, the B*tch Queen, met a fate with unease.
"Work-in-progress, of course, I'll make the rest later. But the order of events is clear: they crashed and decided to live here. Befriended the turtles, and the turtles built them the Temple. Then they lived here - happily or not (I'll make it "happily") and eventually died. But not the captain. Umberlee turned her into that slug we fought. Think of it: the slug could use magic, could make this Kraken statue attack us and woke up shadows. And... don't know how to put it, but I felt sort of "woman's presence" in that beast. Anyway, she will be the captain in my song transformed by Umberlee herself. As a reward or punishment - did not decide yet. Oh! Maybe shadows are the ex-crew also transformed. After all, magic is here and they all worshipped the goddess. With those coins, by the way, too." Kairus pointed at the freshly found mouldy sack of coins. "I wish we knew the name of the captain... Will think of something."
"Well, let's get back to the camp and check on your human, Grandpa?"
Yulmiath sets his greataxe down without much care. Still feeling it's weight a little bit too much, he worries that of he tries to prop it up, he might not be able to manage it as smoothly as he might were he not feeling so weak.
"If that's what she does to folks who dedicate their lives think to her, I think I'm on the right path. I go my way, she can go hers. No one needs to bother anyone and we can all go on with our lives without needing to turn anyone into slugs."
"And yet, my dear, scaled brother, such is not the way of deities with a pension for playing with all the little mortal 'toy's that make up this world."Hun said, lets out a "bleh", and then just about spits at the ground. Mid-motion he stops and side-eyes the statue, and after staring at it for a moment, sucked back up the line of drool and looked away feigning a need to check his gear and so forth.
"Regardless, it sounds as if you finally have your answers than Young Blue, and rightly so. And though her wrath might not have extended to the Tortles that help build her shrine, I wouldn't doubt she was more than satisfied with seeing those 'brave' ones that came about fall to her various guardians, traps, and so forth... if she even cared to check in on this place at all."He said with a shrug thrown out towards the end. "Either way, perhaps if any are of mind to, we can see if that spook is about and in right enough mind to ask for names again now that his 'tormentor' aughta be gone now. But I'd still like to have ten more minutes as well, if you all don't mind. Just to scan this place for any lingering magics 'n all that. There's also the matter of those keys Kromen found, but those can wait till I've I finished adjustments, yea?" He asked, but if Kairus and the rest were still gun-ho about departing sooner than later with their current allotment of treasures and trinkets, Hun would merely shrug and abandon further thoughts of finishing adjustments to his goggle in favor of following along after everyone else.
But if allotted the opportunity, he is sure to pace the chamber as much as he could, noting and pointing out any signs of magic during the final once over.
At the end of the short rest, Yulmiath and Kairus feel their strength return to them. STR penalties are cleared.
Kairus sheds some light on what might have happened in this temple, or at least his understanding of it. The theory is met with a sense of vindication from Yulmiath's part, and with some doubt from Hun's. Regardless, the group agrees on taking some time to rest and so they do.
Waiting for another 10 minutes so that Hun could thoroughly look around the room, the group soon arrives at the conclusion that not much that carries a magical essence has been left behind. The sea-urching healing potions are magical, the new emblem of Umberlee that Yulmiath found is also a tad magical, though this one gives off a slightly different "vibe" from the ones being worn by Kairus and Hun. The glass sphere Kairus has been mentioning is also magical. Neither the statue nor the water basin are magical. After getting confirmation on their mundane nature, Krodhen fishes out the two rusty keys from the water basin: "They seem quite simple to me... very rusty, though."
Next stop: Siburrath's cage/diving bell. On Hun's insistence, The group navigates back to the room where they met the ghost of the aquatic being who tried to possess Yulmiath at one point. The cage is still there, its faint magical essence is not. Siburrath is nowhere to be seen. In their place, within the cage, Rhogal is the first to spot instead a pearlescent conch shell. Hun's lenses then reveal that the conch radiates an aura of evocation magic.
(@Blue: If you didn't already have and Inspiration Token, I'd give you a fresh one for those verses!)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
((The Song of Rest is always playing, yes. So, an additional 1d6HP (in case I am the one to roll it's 4 Also, giving Inspiration to Hun))
"Oh, look, it is really gone. The spook I mean."Kairus bravely touched the cage. "Unless it transformed into that lovely shell. Queen conch they call it on the shores. The snail that lives in it is quite tasty. Is it empty?"He turned the shell over in Rhogal's hands to see.
"Oh, well. I am sure we will find something tasty in the camp. Let's go?"
(@Blue: Mmm~ That's some good healing! Thanks Blue!)
"So seems to be the case, Young Blue. So seems to be the case."Hun commented as Kairus approached the cage. "Snail? What? No! That's an enchanted item! At least...according to my readings so far. But, we'll need to have it studied more at camp as you say. In the meantime, noone try to use it as a horn, alright? Darn thing is radiating evocation magic, and I'd rather we not find out the hard way if its the explosive kind or the mending injuries kind." He warned.
Beyond this however, Hun was content to follow through on the group's full departure at this point. The statues emanating some internal magic were not far from the back of his mind on the way out. But short of others insisting on smashing at least one open to have a look inside, the Kobold kept his maw shut in regard to even mentioning them, having grown frankly too tired of testing Tymora's willingness to look out for the group.
... Except of course where it came to the whole crusher mechanism, which he'd still bravely stand in the middle of with the necklace on so others could carry on without much trouble.

@Rhogal: When Hun warns against blowing the conch like a horn, you can't help but inspect it to see if such a thing would even be viable. The thin end of the conch indeed has an opening that could serve as a mouthpiece. You also confirm that there is no living creature inside, so all the pieces are there for this item to indeed function like a one-note musical instrument. Now also knowing that it emanates evocation magic, you pay close attention to the magical tingly feeling on your fingers caused by the conch. You guess that it the kind of magical essence that functions as a burst, that is, once the conch is blown once, all of its stored arcane power is released, whatever it might be.
Sparing one last thought to the nearby statue that seems to house magical sloshing water, Hun agrees with Kairus and Yulmiath on calling it a day on the Typhoon Temple. Now holding two magical items that still need to be carefully studied, the Snack Pack retraces their steps through the temple, paying close attention to known traps, until they find themselves back outside once more.
They arrive at camp to find a functionally assembled wooden sled. Kwilgok has completed the project, though some faults can be spotted even with just a cursory look. The tortle guide seems to be quite proud of his latest accomplishment nonetheless. A campfire is burning, and small birds of some sort are roasting. Deadly Treasure is taking an early-afternoon nap under the shade of some palm trees. The gulls in the distance make their presence audibly known. The wind is a bit stronger today than it was the day before, but the sky is only sparsely populated by white clouds.

Also, giving Inspiration to Hun))
"Oh, look, it is really gone. The spook I mean." Kairus bravely touched the cage. "Unless it transformed into that lovely shell. Queen conch they call it on the shores. The snail that lives in it is quite tasty. Is it empty?" He turned the shell over in Rhogal's hands to see.
"Oh, well. I am sure we will find something tasty in the camp. Let's go?"

"So seems to be the case, Young Blue. So seems to be the case." Hun commented as Kairus approached the cage. "Snail? What?
When you realize you're doing too much: Signature.
Feeling more himself having had the benefit of a rest, Yulmiath still feels the weight of his greataxe as sharply as before.
Still, with the unfriendly ghost now gone, the Packers can get back to Ahoyhoy, start counting out their shares, that might just perk him up.
"Huh.. This is quite eye-catchin'..." Rhogal says as he inspects the shell.
