The first half-an-hour at the camp is spent on the carefully and heroic retelling of the party's latest adventure. Eeyal deeply enjoys the story Kairus tells, and is quite fond of the bard's over-the-top style. None of the tortles are this poetic at telling their own High Horn underwater tales.
At some point, Yulmiath asks the tortle a direct question about the beast they fought. Eeyal asks for the description a couple more times, thinks to herself a bit, and then finally answers: "It must have been a marine decapus, quite the rare creature to come across even here in the Snout of Omgar, its native home. They have strong tentacles, ten of them, and are carnivorous, solitary hunters: a challenging fight to be sure. Well done."
Later, Kairus mentions the Sea Mare and his hopes of still exploring it. However, sensing some hesitation from Krodhen, Eeyal comments: "The tale of the Sea Mare could indeed lead you to believe it has been emptied out, but I myself think it is a tale to discourage scavengers. Not that it needs much discouragement, being the farthest wreck from shore and all. Over there, it doesn't matter if it is high or low tide, there is plenty of space for the two-headed beast to swim in search of its next meal. Not many tortles have taken the risk, and even fewer have returned." She selects a nearby party member somewhat randomly (Rhogal), stares into his eyes daringly, and adds: "High risk, high reward."
She addresses Hun's question next: "The Shrine of Fangs, yes. I'd say we are about two full days from the shrine. The shrine is not very frequently visited by us tortles, but I guess your human friend could be interested in it if he is as an studious explorer as you claim. There is a giant carving of a snake’s head near its entrance and we sometimes hear strange voices coming from within. A sinister place, I'd say. If you think the person you seek might have gone that way, it might be worth a visit. It's about the same distance from here to Ahoyhoy, so you are bound to spend two days on the road anyhow."
Giving some time for the group to ruminate, she makes her pitch: "Now, if you are looking for a guide to either lead you into the Sea Mare or the Shrine of Fangs, I can gladly be of service to you for the right price. It is how I make a living, after all. You have been generous with your food and tales, so I will happily offer you a discount."
(OOC: Please open the spoiler below to see Eeyal's intro card. She is giving you a 50% discount on the rates showing in the card. You may ignore the last paragraph in the card, as it is not relevant to this adventure since we are in the Snout of Omgar and not near Fort Beluarian in the main Chultan landmass.)
Hun huffed and rolled his at the dare, even without it being directed his way. Then, he glances over to Yully, not even needing to see the more than likely rekindled eagerness in Kairus. If the Dragonborn looked even remotely tempted at the off chance of more salvage, the Kobold groans and rubs at his snout. As more or less as an afterthought, Rhogal and Krodhen are given at least a passing side-eye, but no real considerations before he says to Eeyal, "Pretty sure we can find the wreck easily enough. But, if this guiding of yours includes paths or tricks your fellows used to distract or dissuade the two headed beast, then... hmmmn.... perhaps I was too hasty. And if in the event we do find trouble by no fault of our own -- besides being stupid enough to go swimming again -- might you fight with us? At least so long as such a conflict might seem winnable."

The young excitable turtle that he was willing to take under his wing and show a true exploration, turned out to be an experienced guide. Kairus tried not to show his disappointment and just nodded to Hun's questions. At the moment it was not clear how the guide will help around these parts - if she was on the ship, she knows for sure whether or not something is there. But if she was not, another fighting hand would be the only reason to higher her. "What kind of two-headed beast do you mean? Does it come from the open sea or has a nest in one ship?"
Yulmiath again employs his on the one hand approach to decision making and finds that it leaves about in the same place as when he last employed it. Still, at least this time there was no mouthful of seawater.
"High risk for high reward sounds about right and if Eeyal reckons it is still worth heading for, I'm tempted. But a two-headed beast? Two mouths to feed one stomach? That thing will be ravenous and I don't fancy being its dinner. I've nearly been carried off twice now. A snake temple sounds about as dangerous, although spooky noises could be anything from actual danger to an old man in disguise looking to secure a score until they can move it."
Returning Hun's look, Yulmiath considers that it might be time to back the kobold on this one.
"My vote is with Hun. Whichever he picks, I'll live with. But, I do vote that whatever we do, we do it tomorrow and we do it as a party of six."
"What do you say if I go and just look? I mean now? There is a way to keep mecompletely blended to the background. I'll check, and if there are hips of treasure lying about - we can go together and fight that monster (should it even be there). I wish I could do it for everyone, but it's not possible, so, only one can go. What do you say?"
"It would be good to know one way or the other. But uh, if you get into trouble who'll know? You can't give the secret signal if no one can see you."
He taps a finger on the side of his head as if he has imparted a great wisdom then demonstrates the arm waving that he considers to generally accompany the 'secret signal'.
"No risk - no reward!"grinned Kairus making Eeyal's saying just a touch sharper. "I promise to be careful!" It was a very unlikely promise to keep, but this is the thought that counts, right?
It seemed Kairus did convince others (or maybe they were speechless from the craziness of the idea) but one way or another, he began preparations. Which, actually, did not take long - he practiced it before. Kairus picked his cittern and look around triumphantly. "Now you see me," he plucked a couple strings creating a light tune, "now you don't!". And indeed, he disappeared from the view. His entrance into the water was also invisible. But that is for the land-dwellers. Sea-creatures had other senses and he tried to be as stealthy as he could.
"As long as we're waiting... I have an idea for when we go back inland."Rhogal says. "The little creeks we've seen on this island are too small fer this trick ta work, but the entire sea won't miss this little bit o' water."
He takes a pinch of his extremely absorbent spores and sprinkles it in the water. The small about of dust takes in a surprising about of water around it, which coalesces into a small, floating pellet, that he picks up and puts in his bag.
LOL - Invisible except for the displaced water outline, and the thrashing around that might be described loosely as swimming.....
Krodhen does indeed sit there stupified by the suggestion, but if Kairus believes the odds are in his favour having been attacked twice by surprise already then he is not going to stop him, instead he waves him off with a "Unbelievable.....good luck!"
As they lose track of Kairus, Krodhen returns to the conversation with Eeyal, and the remaining members of the group says "The Shrine seems the best option from here and I for one would welcome Eeyal's company for the trip. This island has already hit us with enough surprises"
Hun had been speechless alright, though not for the reasons Kairus might've expected from the Kobold. He seemed torn as well between looking to Eeyal and the Triton. Unfortunately, by the time the elder seemed to finally come to some conclusion on the matter, Kairus up and disappeared from view. At which point Hun wouldn't bother wasting the breath to call after the youth, understanding such magics had a time limit. And if the little dive was to be even remotely successful, even seconds could prove to be necessary.
"Gah! Blasted youth! Hmph!"He says, plopping down from the half-risen stance he took but moments before the disappearance. After a few moments -- just long enough for the Triton to reach the bottom once more -- Hun's agitated foot tapping in either building guilt or frustration came to a close in a big huff. "We can at least be on the beach front to greet him if he succeeds. And if it fails, well... a beast of that size is liable to make some of its presence known if I'm lucky enough. Not sure what I'll do then, but-..."He grumbles a bit. "Eeyal." He marches over fishing out a whole six gold pieces. "There. For the trip to the shrine after this whole mess, and back to Ahoyhoy after that. Now if you all will excuse me, I got a fool I got a spectacle to probably see."Without waiting for any other volunteers to come down to the beach front with him, Hun heads for the rope and onwards from there. He makes sure to keep a good thirty to forty feet away from the actual waters upon eventually reach the edge where he could at least lookout to the Sea Mare.

Before the situation escalated into Kairus' unilateral decision, Hun had asked Eeyal about her willingness to join in a fight if needed. The tortle points to a crossbow that has been sitting on a medium-sized rock and responds: "If I must, I can indeed defend myself." Kairus had asked a question of his own, which also earns a reply from the gadget-loving tortle guide: "I don't know where it nests, but the beast I speak of is a Plesiosaurus. It is no common Plesiosaurus, in case you are familiar with dinosaurs and related beast. I have already mentioned this one has two heads instead of one. This alone gives it plenty of advantages. Baka, one of the tortles who survived an encounter with the beast, said he tried stunning its senses to gain an advantage in escaping but the second head remained healthy and his efforts were in vain. I'd guess the second head makes it stronger and more resilient also. All in all, quite the nightmare, especially in its own turf."She thinks for a moment and preemptively states: "And don't bother trying asking Baka to be your guide instead. He has left the island years ago."
The description pushes Yulmiath over the edge and the barbarian decides to finally side with Krodhen and Hun. The response elicited in Kairus is quite the opposite. The bard's curiosity spikes and he quickly comes up with a solo exploration plan. Before anyone can prevent him from following it through, Kairus becomes invisible with the assistance of a magic chord. Yulmiath, Krodhen, and Hun all express some level of doubt, but the bard is far gone by the time they finish sharing their thoughts.
Krodhen and Rhogal begin discussing the next leg of their journey, which prompts Hun to pay a 6gpfee for Eeyal's services. The tortle gladly accepts it and continues to serve food to those who want some. Hun's conscience gets the best of him and he admits being worried about Kairus' well-being enough to at least observe his ordeal from a little closer. Rhogal follows the kobold back down to the beach so he can claim some ocean water via another pouch of specializes mushroom spores.
Kairus doesn't know that Hun and Rhogal made their way to the beach after he entered the water.
The swim only feels different in that Kairus cannot see his own limbs moving to propel him forward. The small fish he comes across while swimming have no trouble in getting out of the triton's way. Kairus would know that many aquatic species rely less on vision and more on sensing scents and the dislocation of water to avoid predators or find prey. Nonetheless, onward he goes.
The approach to the Sea Mare is clear enough. The ship's burned carcass is peppered with holes, allowing Kairus to look into the cargo hold even before being able to touch the ship's exterior. Much as the tales say, the cargo hold seems to have been sacked in a hurry, though not enough that it is completely emptied. There are plenty of sealed wooden crates still left inside, which also supports Eeyal's claim that not many tortles have found their way into this particular wreck. Perhaps more importantly, Kairus also clocks two points of interest:
The first is an airtight stone sarcophagus carved in the likeness of a demon with folded wings.
The second is less of a 'what' and more of a 'who': a squalid humanoid figure wanders around the cargo hold as if guarding what is left inside. What is left of its skin, muscles, and bones is partially hidden by some armor and the undeniable attire of a ship captain, feathered tricorn and all. The figure carries no visible weapon.
Before Kairus can decide on his next step, a large shadow passes near him and the wreck from somewhere off to his left. Given Eeyal's description, the bard fears it might very well be the unusual Plesiosaurus. It does not seem like the creature has noticed the triton yet.
From the beach, all that Hun and Rhogal can see is the battered remains of the Sea Mare's crow’s nest, which is the only part of the ship that peeks out of the water in the low tide.
Yulmiath looks to Krodhen and Eeyal. Then narrows his eyes and speaks in a conspiratorial whisper.
"If Karius is invisible...how will we know if he's made it back safely?"
A thought comes unbidden to the forefront of his mind at that moment, his eyes widen and Yulmiath sweeps his head around where the small group is positioned looking for the rustling of grasses as things unseen pass through them.
"How do we know he's even gone? How do we know he's not here, listening to everything we say?"
Ah! The cargo was here, and the ship was dangerous! The excitement of the hunt made Kairus's gills itch. And undead creature and a beast! Would any of these things be here alone, he could even risk it, but to of them... How come the plesiosaurus did not eat the undead? Some magic, no doubt. But this sarcophagus! If there was any treasure on this island at all it was there! Had to be!
Before deciding anything, Kairus looked around searching for any loose piece of treasure, something small, portable, yet convincing for those on the shore.

Finding nothing of a sort (anything like that had to be washed away years ago) he waited a few moments to note the position of everything and movement patterns of everyone on the scene, and then quietly swam away. On the way back he visited Virago too - he was already here, and it was better be sure than sorry.
Despite mentally kicking himself upon remembering the sun hated the guts of all kobold kind, Hun stubbornly kept watch as well at the beach front, absently wringing the hem of his jacket. "The boy better not have gotten himself into any trouble. Or I'll... I'll go in there and... and... Hmph!" He muttered darkly underbreath.
