Sure. You can investigate what you suspect is an illusion to try to see through the illusion. Val tried in #335 and you tried in #336.
As far as Evy can tell, everything back the way they came looks the same, though the doorway is pretty far back, so while she thinks she sees it, she's not sure if her mind is seeing something that isn't really there.

This time with Evy in the lead, the cousins head back the way they had come. The long hallway passes by, and after a while, they can see a left turn approaching. However, the further they walk, the more they realize they no longer see the door they entered through. The smooth stone wall continues monotonously until the left turn.
"Crud!" Val complains. He thinks for a little while and says: "This is a shot in the dark, but perhaps I can get some information from beyond whatever illusion or maddening labyrinth this is."
Val focus his senses once more but now calls on his affinity to the divine:
-> Divine Sense: The presence of strong evil registers on your senses like a noxious odor, and powerful good rings like heavenly music in your ears. As an action, you can open your awareness to detect such forces. Until the end of your next turn, you know the location of any celestial, fiend, or undead within 60 feet of you that is not behind total cover. You know the type (celestial, fiend, or undead) of any being whose presence you sense, but not its identity (the vampire Count Strahd von Zarovich, for instance). Within the same radius, you also detect the presence of any place or object that has been consecrated or desecrated, as with the hallow spell.
To recap, we are in a set of hallways that should not physically exist because they appear to cross through and over each other in ways that are not possible, right? We have evidence from Val’s magic sense that there may be illusion magic at work. This is correct?

ey/em/eirs, or they/them works, too (just not he). Role-playing since that keep on those borderlands. I love it so.
The Dagger of Warning’s description begins, “This magic weapon warns you of danger,” then goes on to describe initiative and combat specific cases. In Evy’s experience of the dagger, does it not work to warn her if she is, say, about to walk off a cliff?

There is only the left turn ahead so, while Evy looks like she is trying to remember something, Val peeks around the corner to see what is beyond the turn.
The door opens to ... another hallway. Twenty feet ahead, the corridor makes another left turn. You do notice, however, that while the previous hallways have been fairly pristine, this hallway shows clear signs that a very large creature has rampaged through.

Val leads again, turning left to encounter another very long hallway. Again, the signs of something large moving recklessly through the corridor are evident. As he moves along, he begins to realize there is something littering the hallway ahead. He isn't sure what it is until he's about 40 feet away. Several piles of bones are ahead.
“The decor is very homey,” Evy says as she approaches Val looking at the bones. “I still don’t trust this maze, but at least they’ve made it more interesting.”

"Let's try the other way, and see if it is similar." She will backtrack to the door, and then go the other way down this hall.

Val is content to follow along, letting his cousin lead the way this time.

Evy growls, her eyes flashing red briefly. “Too late.” She punches the wall, but not hard. “Coward!” she yells.

Val, you sense nothing aside from your regular senses.

Yes. They defy the laws of physics, but all of your senses say everything is normal.

I'd say no, the dagger isn't meant to warn you that you're going to hurt yourself. It warns you of outside dangers.

Val looks around the corner to find ... another closed door.
Val looks at Evy and silently shrugs. He pushes the door open...
Evy has gotten annoyed enough with all of this that she's stopped being cautious, and is right up next to Val as he opens the door.

Val nods and leads the way. Perhaps they are following the right way after all, albeit by chance.
