One kuo-toa lies on the floor, deep in sleep. Another lies slain by Ghorbash. One kuo-toa lingers at the edge of the battlefield with Adoy's weapon glued fast to his shield, and the last creature dances around Ghobash's huge form.
It would be better to say:
One kuo-toa (K1) lies on the floor, deep in sleep. Another lies slain by Ghorbash (K2). One kuo-toa (K3) lingers at the edge of the battlefield with Adoy's weapon glued fast to his shield, and the last creature dances around Ghobash's huge form. (K4)
I don't think that's metagaming (in my opinion anyway). Our characters can know which one is which just by being in the same room as them and fighting them. Since the players aren't really there, assigning numbers and letters and using those in the descriptions/narration may help us identify the enemies similarly to how our characters can.
Still, I have no complaints if this idea gets voted down.
Everything that has happened so far I have made up on the spot. Don't worry about mindless encounters, however, because everything does fit in in the end. This adventure is as unexpected to me as to you!
There is some kind of dice roller curse going around or something, one of the PCs in my lost mine game was just complaining about rolling noting buy natural ones. but in truth I think its just the natural outcome of random chance, happens all the time but we don't notice it as much when we roll two 12s in a row. Either way I'm going with Synthil's explanation as far as role playing goes.
I have been using paint 3d, it comes with windows 10, I have been using the maps from the published adventure and blacking out unexplored bits and using circles with letters to denote player positions and such on them, then uploading to imgur.com and pasting a link here on the forum. If you have access to a paint program you could just draw up crude maps that way, they don't have to be works of art, especially for just exploring, for combat a grid is nice, but not absolutely necessary.
I think it will be easier if DM give each monster letter and number (like G1 for goblin). This will help to understand the fight scene
That is the system I am using, actually. :) But thanks for the tip.

I will be gone for another 24 hour period and off wifi. Don't wait around.

Just my two cents, but I think it would be best if DM indicates which monster taken as which number as part of the description of the battle field.
For example, instead of saying:
OK, if nobody minds that kind of metagaming.

I have to say i do not know how this is metagaming. For me it is the same as using gridmap and pawns. Just a "Visual assistance"
OK, we will use this system starting................. now. :)

Just out of curiosity, was there actually any way to cross the pool without getting into a fight?

Two natural ones in a row? Adoy's not accustomed to being a spider, it seems.
Either that or one of his various foes has rigged the dice roller against him.

Or maybe the quasi-random number generator in this forum is broken. Never gonna know
I have to say that I do not like the fancy maps. I love the oldschool blue one.
This page is awesome for random dungeons

just as an example this is generally what I am imagining the wall to look like, not pretty but you get the idea.
I generally use paint.net. It's like a cross between MS Paint and Photoshop and it's free.
Perfect illustration, Kolbitr.
