Tor nods at Sigi's assessment. "Not an interview. I know you're capable. I just don't know enough, not for us to be fully effective as a unit. But I'm sure we'll get there."
You are able to follow the trail for a little while, but the storm begins to rage above, obscuring vision and making the waters rise. On the plus side, it is easy to remain stealthy yourselves. While it's spring, the rain is cold and soaks to the bone, and finds its way inside your clothing and through your boots and socks, till you're worried you'll need gills just to survive.
Everyone who hasn't, please make Perception checks and Survival Checks to follow the trail. Vision is limited such that you can only see large shapes beyond a dozen or so feet, so stealth is not really needed at this point, unless you're actively trying NOT to be stealthy.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
As they march onward, Brother Siegfried continues to appeal to Chauntea for aid in staying on the trail.

Ahead of you, the sound of murmuring and hissing voices rises above the sound of the storm above. Several carts fitted with sled rails are being pulled by giant snails with thick appendages protruding from their heads. Most of the carts carry lizardfolk of various ages and size, but two of them bear cages. Each cage contains four humans, and you recognize four of them, by their uniform, as the soldiers you were sent to rescue. The other cage holds a (presumably) family of humans, including a man and woman that appear in their 30s, and two children, a girl of about 12 years and a boy of about 10 years.
The entire tribe appears present, almost 50 lizardfolk varying in age between hatchling and elderly. The scene is lit by various "lanterns" attached to the sleds or held by lizardfolk that consists of a large glowing beetle, held in a loosely woven wicker cage that is itself suspended on a long pole. Of the tribe, there are at least 30 that appear to be of fighting age, and carry spears and shields.
They seem to have just recently stopped, as a tall lizardfolk addresses the fifty or so of his fellows, and they scatter, performing the tasks of setting up camp. A larger, bestial-looking lizardfolk moves closer to the leader, as if waiting for directions.
Adventurers who understand Draconic learn
the tall lizardfolk is the leader. He is ordering his followers to feed the prisoners and see to the needs of the rest of the group. He also orders the large lizardfolk next to him to go off into the swamp, scout for enemies, and bring back something to cook.
Vandeyr points at the leader lizardfolk: "He's setting scouts to work, and ordering food for the tribe as well as the captured. That may mean negotiation is more plausible. I'm also not sure we could fight so many all at once. A plan is in order, Captain."
So many. Far more than Tor had hoped. Quickly his mind ran through options.
"Damn,"he whispers. He briefly seems lost in his head, before announcing, "I see three ways through this. One, negotiation. For that we need to know what they want. Is the stuff in the bag valuable enough to them? Two, stealth. If the cages are poorly guarded, and close enough to the edge of their camp we might be able to get in, release the captives, and get out. But it's risky - if the alarm is raised we'll be fertiliser for the swamp, as if it needs any more. Three, one of us fights one of them. If they'll go for it. There's no reason they would, but it's the only fight we'll win here.
Thoughts? We either act fast or we find somewhere to hunker down before the scouts find us."
"I would suggest option one, with the possibility of rolling into option three as a last resort."

"I'm assuming that's a magic disguise. No amount of wigs and false noses is hiding those horns." Tor scratches his chin. "Could you disguise one of us? Maybe Vandeyr?"
Rawlings looks at Tor a bit quizzically, "Wigs? False noses in my horns? Ha, that's a good one. Of course it is a magic disguise. But unfortunately it is just for me, I can't do it on someone else."
They tend to be neutral and relatively emotionless. They are family-oriented and will always make decisions based on what's best for the family/tribe as a whole. They are known to be honest and keep their word especially if they make a deal with someone. However, they are unlikely to make a deal when there's no reason to do so.
Vandeyr knows the above and a little more:
It is unusual for the lizardfolk of the Mere to hassle travelers along the High Road.
