“What is this shard? Who are you? Perhaps we should go back up to the walkway and incinerate the spider eggs from safety, unless we need to find out what the big one’s corpse is protecting?”
The magic on Jane's quarterstaff fades as Jane slides it back under a strap on her pack. She goes over to her dropped torch and picks it back up, using it to see as she walks around. The bodies of the other adventurers were back by the well, weren't they? Though we could look around here first, if we don't mind fighting off more spiders. She will keep concentrating on Bless for now.
Jane and Hogshead take a cursory glance around the chamber, still distracted from the fight and the cracking noises coming from under the spider corpse and into the chamber to the west. They do notice that there are four bodies in this chamber, but the flickering torch light obscures any details (giving Jane the benefit of her passive perception of 13 - those were both really low rolls :). Jane is correct in her recollection that there were other bodies in the Well Mouth where the elevator deposited them.
While the cleric and the burly warrior are distracted by the chaos of their encouter, the monk's sense are razor sharp. Zerxius notices another cluster of medium sized spiders on the southern cavern wall above the tunnel entrance creeping their way down towards the unsuspecting Rogue standing on the platform. He's also mortally sure that another swarm is forming under the Giant Spider's corpse and that the only reason they haven't surged out is Rantel's bonfire keeping them at bay.
OOC:
Ok, one surprise round for everyone against 4 medium spiders on the wall above and behind Bree.
They are 15 feet up from Bree.
They are 50 feet back and up from Hogshead and the Armored Figure.
Everyone else is clustered somewhere in between - call it 30-40ft away from the targets.
The Bonfire appears to be keeping more swarms from appearing, but you are uncertain for how long.
Searching the corpses would take a full action. If you want to check their bodies it's movement and and Investigation roll to see what you can find in a quick 6 second or so search.
Walkway back out is 15 feet in the air be sure to take the vertical distance and difficulty into account when moving (climbing counts as difficult terrain so 1ft vertical=2 ft of movement). I'll take creative descriptions of how you get up with successful DC 10 Athletic or Acrobatic checks to overcome the difficult terrain.
Catching sight of the spiders that are quickly approaching her, she reaches back, jerks another arrow out of her quiver and notches it. She blindly aims it and releases it at the nearest spider.
Attack: 9 Damage: 7
Sneak Attack: 4
(Hope it's okay that I went ahead with Bree's surprise round. Since her perception roll was so high, I figured she'd be able to notice the incoming wave)
The warning from Zerxius focuses Bree's mind on the threat above, but her aim is shaken by the approaching arachnids and she misses.
Zerxius attempts to parkour his way up the vertical surface to get closer to the spiders but doesn't quite get the height he needs.
@Bree, any movement? Or are you staying put on top of the walkway with the spiders 15 feet above you?
@Zerxius, needed a 10 to get up, so you're at the bottom of the walkway looking up - do you want to take an action of some sort in prep for the fight to come?
@everyone else - one round of action before the spiders attack
After firing off her shot, Bree waves a hand to shoo her ally out of the way before calling out, "Watch out, below!" Then she leaps down and lands next to him before whirling to face the spiders again.
Jane looks up at the approaching bugs, touches the holy symbol on her scarf, and utters a quick prayer for Chauntea to burn one of the creatures with holy flames.
Sacred Flame: Dex save DC 13 or take 7 Radiant damage

The Armored Figure leaps into the air, his boots glowing with a blue arcane haze. As he rises above the cavern floor, he blasts two firebolts at the Spiders leaping down towards Zerxius and Bree below.
Attack 1: 20 Damage: 6 Attack 2: 18 Damage: 16
The firebolts blow two of the spiders into pieces, even as the remaining two leap off the wall, dropping down to follow and attack Bree at the foot of the walkway.
Hogshead clutches the webbing and the shard to his chest and scrambles over to search one of the decaying bodies on the cavern floor. His quick search reveals the desiccated body of a human dressed in decaying studded leather armor. An empty quiver at his hip and a broken bow under his body give you some sense of their last few moments. A heavy coin pouch is tucked in on one side of his belt (30 gp) and a stoppered vial on the other. (@Hogshead one action to strip and remove the items)
Drax finds a similarly decayed and dried husk of a former dwarven adventurer. The body he examines appears to have been masticated about the face, rendering the features unreadable. Clad in rusting scale mail, the once stout warrior's ax haft is shattered in his right hand and the remains of a wooden shield are strapped to his left arm. A single gold coin has spilled from his left hand, as if he were clutching it there at the moment of his death. The backpack strapped to his back is made of a well-oiled leather with pockets and straps to hold a wide array of supplies. In stark contrast to the rest of the corpse, it appears pristine. (@Drax it would be one action to remove the backpack and get it on your back if you're interested).
Top of the Round:
The Armored Figure flies overhead, squeezing off two more shots at the remaining Spiders before landing on the walkway above.
Attack 1: 14 Damage: 11 Attack 2: 11 Damage: 11
'C'mon ya fools, they won't stop coming - and that Bonfire won't hold 'em back for long. We need to get back to the Shard up the Well!'
All four spiders were dispatched. Cracking noises from the West (under the corpse) are getting louder and movement can be seen in the shadows deeper to the West.
Hogshead and Rantel are up before the next Spider turn.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Ranel does a loop around the cavern, eyes darting around in a new, familiar light, reading the likely routes and ebbs and flows of the previous battle. Crime scene. That was something he was familiar with. He takes in the dwarf's former-face, the archer with the broken bow, and then stops at the smaller of the two remaining desiccated bodies to investigate it for anything of note.
Investigation: 20
"Yes, time to go,"he says, fingers searching and trying to ascertain anything else about the previous battle that he might have missed before. If no one else searches the last body, he will, but if someone does, he'll use his movement to proceed directly to the exits, eyeing the bonfire and how well it's keeping any other spiderlings at bay.
Rantel searches the body north of the spider corpse. He finds a slender half-elf dressed in what were clearly once beautifully embroidered robes. The body has been completely drained off all its fluids, the skin paper-thin, and the face shrunken in on itself. The tortle's nimble fingers quickly discover an ornately bound book strapped to the figures side and surprisngly untarnished dagger on the otherside. (removing the book and dagger would cost another action).
As Hogshead scurries away, his arms loaded down with the shard, the pouch and the vial and Rantel searches the desicated corpse, a massive rumbling can be heard from the darkness to the West of the Giant Spider's Corpse, as if something was knocked loose. Something very large knocked loose by something much bigger, presumably.
Everyone else is up - one full round (action, bonus, movement, reaction) before anything else may or may not appear on the map.
Armored Figure is on the walkway yelling at you to move, Z is ready to [action] Help [action] anyone up at the base of the walkway - DC 10 Athletics or Acrobatics to get up or treat the 15 ft of vertical distance as difficult terrain (30ft of movement).
Drax and Rantel are poised over rotting corpses deciding if they have time to strip them of the obvious valuables.
One corpse - under the walkway - remains to be searched.

"This thing is prolly worth something. Do you all want to go back and sell this thing or keep pushing ahead?"
