The clothes are simply piled, but the stains appear to be a mix of filth and blood. There is nothing but the floorboards beneath the rushes. The three chests all look of a similar design, but distinct. The left one is tiny, but the other two are of similar size. Each has a hasp, but no lock. The smallest chest and one other have rounded lids, the third, in the center, has a flat top. All appear to be constructed of the same hardwood, possibly oak, trimmed along the edges with brass.
Yep, it’s me. I bet you’re wondering how I got here…
It was midnight when I finally moved in, though I’d been watching the place for a while. There were many different ways to infiltrate a place like this, an embassy of a magocracy, and I chose one of the hardest. Probably should have established an identity, earn their trust and become an insider, but no time for that. A magical disguise would probably do the trick, but I decided against it. Maybe I’m just prone to self-sabotage. The maps helped, though, and I always had my family’s specialty to call upon. Better be careful with that, though. Someone might recognize the red eyes… Of course, there were guards, wards and alarms, as well as simple mechanical locks, but I had my ways. The guards saw and heard nothing. I could clearly see the wards which made it easy to avoid them. And the locks… I’d been dealing with such for years.
This had better be worth all the magic I was burning.
Well, I got what I came here for, the intel that was so important they’d send me after it (ever thought of using the disguise spell to record text as an illusion on your body? Much faster than copying it, and I certainly wasn't about to walk out with the original), and even the stuff the Breeze asked me to get, and was about to head out. Imagine my surprise when the door opened and a bunch of people barge in. For a moment I thought I tripped an alarm of some kind, always a possibility, but they seemed just as surprised to see me.
The worst part was, all I could think of to say was, "Do you come here often?" Mortifying.
Using the point of his sword, Angus will gingerly flip the hasp of the leftmost chest. Then, perhaps foolishly, he will kick open the lid.
The lid flips open with a slight delay if initial resistance yielding to an energetic pop, flying open wide to reveal double rows of sharp fangs, which gnash at Angus as tbe lid / jaws slam shut.
<Angus may need to make a saving throw on initiative 20, so hold off on actions for now. You can use reaction and bonus action for the round where surprised, though.>

(If not clear, the windowless room is dark, as stated, save for the cone of dim light shining in from trough the double doors)
(Piles of torn clothes not shown, oversight / clutter)
Suddenly the other two chests spring to life, rushing at Angus (albeit in a clunky, waddling fashion a person might easily outpace). The doors slam shut. The windowless space is dark. Just as the last sliver of light winks out, Angus sees a the glinting blade of a falcion swing at him, held by a long, prehensile, purple, serpentine tongue stretching from within the flat-topped chest.
14 for 8 slashing
In darkness, Angus feels another strike. The round-lid mimic smacks Angus with a pseudopod 22 for 11 bludgeoning and Angus is grappled. Escape DC 18 with DA (adhesive).

<@rob88scps2: Blind fighting- check. TY for the heads up. Rolls from before stand. The one that had AD wad from unseen attacker but they are 10ft reach attack from a distance greater than Angus' 10ft blindsight radius. Sword weilder had no AD, bjt thats because tbe attack was made prior to the doors closing. Turns out he woukdnt ha e had it anyway. >
Angus strikes the sticky pseudopod twice, drawing an oozy grey (to Angus) liquid from the cuts inflicted
An instant later, spittles of acid begin to fill the air, sent aloft by unseen orifices spraying caustic droplets into the air.
The tiny chest snaps at Angus' heels diatracting Angus from the attacks of the sword-weilding flat top chest (help action). The sword swings again 21 for 6 slashing damage.
The round top chest holding Angus moves in closer, slapping two more pseudopds against his armor and biting his leg with slime drenched teeth. (AD from grappled)
Pseudopod 1 11 for 12 bludgeoning
Pseudopod 2 28 for 15 bludgeoning
Bite Unable to parse dice roll. for 12 piercing damage
Moments after finding himself in the dark, Angus is battling tentacles using his other senses to guide his strikes. He manages to dodge some of their attacks, but others slam into him, and he remains grappled. The rank smell of acid vomited up by the mimics fills his nostrils, and he attempts to dodge the caustic phlegm (DEX Save at DA 10). Afterwards he manages to sense and evade the sword-wielder's attack, but the third mimic blindsides him, striking with all three of its blows.
The paladin once again lashes out at the grappler, this time adding divine magic to his blows. If the mimic should go down, the second attack would be directed at the next nearest foe.
First longsword Attack: 10 Damage: 15magical slashing + 3radiant damage
Second longsword Attack: 17 Damage: 14magical slashing + 10radiant damage
(FYI: If there was anything in those edges, I would have made the visible area round(er). Just not worth the effort to show more floor)
Angus' first attack fails to connect, but the second slices a gash into the creatures flesh. Still it grapples the paladin and, despite being a toothy wooden box, looks decidedly hungry. (It's taken 40)
(Initiaitev 20)
From the dark edges of Angus's perception, the floorboards, still covered in rushes, stretch out toward him from all sides, attempting to ensnare the Knight of Myth Drannor. DC15 Str save or have speed reduced to 0 until next initiative 20. On a failure of 4 or more, he is restrained instead.
The small chest again bites at Angus 11 for 1 piercing plus 2 poison damage. If advantage due to restrained: 12
The flat top chest extends another pseudopod to small Angus with 13 (If AD due to restrained: 24) for 8 piercing and 5 acid damage. On a hit, Angus is also restrained by this mimic. DC13 with DA.
The round-top chest backs up, releasing Angus as it moves, then makes a gurgling choking noise, then with a "Fthwooow!" launches an acidic loogie of viscous phlegm at Angus (DC 14 Dex save (DA from unseen attacker) or take 32 acid damage.
