It’s not possible to tell from the confusing jumble of prints whether any specific footprints are those of prisoners. The path only confirms what you already know: there were a lot of them, and they were a mix of humans, kobolds, and trained reptiles. But you do notice that many of the beasts’ footprints are deeper on the retreat than they were on the approach march.
Zale follows Eric as he examines the tracks. “I can’t see a difference between them tracks, but if ya do. Let’s follow ‘em. It’s the best lead we got.”
Eyes snapping away from Eek, Zale curses herself for being distracted. After Zeminny points out the smoke, she hisses, “Let us proceed quickly and quietly, that probably be where we need to go.” With that, she starts walking towards the smoke. Once the get closer, she move off the road so she has more available cover.
"I think we should gain an high ground position". Erich points toward the top of one hill "to see what's going on down there and prepare an ambush in case of an enemy campfire"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Eric also moves toward the top of the hill. he takes some distance knowing that his heavy armor may jeopardize his ability to hide and move stealthy... (he casts guidance on himself and the other, so they can eventually benefit from it)

”I suppose we follow the carnage for now.”
Survival check (game log): 19

"Footprints are deeper that way... we should follow this path" Eric says examining the ground around

Zale follows Eric as he examines the tracks. “I can’t see a difference between them tracks, but if ya do. Let’s follow ‘em. It’s the best lead we got.”
So, who's leading this little expedition? Anyone keeping an eye on things?

Zale will walk up towards the front with Eric, whom I'm assuming is following the tracks. She will watch over their surroundings.
Perception: 6
(Why can't I ever roll good perception...)
Zeminny will walk just off the trail, parallel to it so he can keep more of an over watch, scanning for ambushing bad guys and or traps.

Zale is distracted, her eyes locked on that nasty Kobold. She doesn't spot what Zeminny does.
After 2 miles walking through gently rolling hills, Zemminy notices a thin line of smoke several miles away. Probably from a bonfire between 2 hills.

Calvin follows the rest of the party, attempting to keep up, but without making too much noise.

Zeminny will alert the others to the smoke

Zeminny agrees and will creep to find a good position with concealment.

occ: if we are going to have stealthy strategy all along the quest, I think we have a problem here XD
Somehow the person(s) who made the fire doesn't notice you. Zeminny make a Perception check.

Zale creeps towards the fire, trying to stay hidden while she examines them.

(Oof, looks like Eric isn't the only un-stealthy person here...)
