“I’ve got 205 gold ye can borrow, mayhap one o’ the others can spot you the last 5… oh wait.. eers that coin that thug had. Now I’m down to almost me last Copper. But I love that name...” Casey replies to Storm.
She hands over a platinum from the thug, bringing you to 225 gold.
Finishing up your conversation you take the Thug outside. Two Thugs are waiting across the street, with yout passive they seem to have been there a while. As you deposit your charge unceremoniously into the gutter to lay among the trash and chamber pot offerings.
The thugs will open there cloak showing they are Unarmed scoop up their man and disappear down a side street.
The rest of morning goes passes without incident as you rest and prepare for the days challenge.
Sorath will arrive with the merchant and bookie.
Sorath: Good afternoon! I hope your activities last night where fruitful. I have filled the board in on the details as I know them. Dan sends their regards on the killing and not dieing. Garmuk just grunted which is huge praise believe it or not. But enough of that, on to today's events.
GC and the boy toys should be a good fight. My money is on you of course but just a tip don't get hit by GC's cannon I hear it stings a bit. Ha ha ha anyways merchant for goods, bookie for placeing a bet you know the drill.
DM: bring the bets back into the game with a minor tweak. You can place a bet on your self or the party. If you place it on your self you are betting the party will win but you won't be knocked out at any time in the process. If you bet on the party you are betting you will win the fight in a number of rounds.
Betting on yourself is a 25% ROI (think I'm using that right) on the party is 50%. And you can only guess but the more you bet the more likely you will be targeted.
The merchant approaches good day all. I have gathered your requests and I have a number of fine potions for sell. No prices are final or set.
Aino is happy to lend further gold if still needed. She has just over a thousand now, saving up for an Arcane Grimoire, +2.
Especially to Storm with whom she had vanquished the un-damageable Sumo in the Arena. She is secretly relieved, having worried that the dragonborn paladin would judge her for her... less than pure morals after the scrape with the thugs. As her own father surely would have. But Storm did not.
She hears her father's voice in her mind and imagines him shaking his head gravely. Do you remember where the heart is, Aino?
She has questions about the potions. - Does the mind-reading potion, once quaffed, work automatically/passively, or does one have to spend an action to detect thoughts? - Does the potion of resistance offer resistance to only one (random) type of damage or to all of them? - How much do they cost, including the greater healing one?
Mind reading potion. Gives you the effects of detect thoughts
For the duration, you can read the thoughts of certain creatures. When you cast the spell and as your action on each turn until the spell ends, you can focus your mind on any one creature that you can see within 30 feet of you. If the creature you choose has an Intelligence of 3 or lower or doesn’t speak any language, the creature is unaffected.
You initially learn the surface thoughts of the creature—what is most on its mind in that moment. As an action, you can either shift your attention to another creature’s thoughts or attempt to probe deeper into the same creature’s mind. If you probe deeper, the target must make a Wisdom saving throw. If it fails, you gain insight into its reasoning (if any), its emotional state, and something that looms large in its mind (such as something it worries over, loves, or hates). If it succeeds, the spell ends. Either way, the target knows that you are probing into its mind, and unless you shift your attention to another creature’s thoughts, the creature can use its action on its turn to make an Intelligence check contested by your Intelligence check; if it succeeds, the spell ends.
Questions verbally directed at the target creature naturally shape the course of its thoughts, so this spell is particularly effective as part of an interrogation.
You can also use this spell to detect the presence of thinking creatures you can’t see. When you cast the spell or as your action during the duration, you can search for thoughts within 30 feet of you. The spell can penetrate barriers, but 2 feet of rock, 2 inches of any metal other than lead, or a thin sheet of lead blocks you. You can’t detect a creature with an Intelligence of 3 or lower or one that doesn’t speak any language.
Once you detect the presence of a creature in this way, you can read its thoughts for the rest of the duration as described above, even if you can’t see it, but it must still be within range.
Last one min. If you take it ill give you advantage on saves. If you use an action to focus one on of the enemy. I'll give them disadvantage when attacking you. Unwell you lost your action to focus on someone else or they make the save.
The potion of resistance. Will give you resistance for 1 type of damage for an hour. I'll let you pick.
Prices are not set. You can haggle a price. I'll let you chose how you want to haggle. What ever price is agreed is the cost for this time only.
Storm will thank Casey for the loan, he will also express to the group that the interrogation was fine with him as those that commit injustice deserve to be punished.
OOC: Storm will buy the plate armor, how much can he sell his chain mail for?
Aino is polite with the potion merchant, but takes tactic of just thanking them and walking away. Which is what she'd do even if she had 10,000 gold to spend, but in this case she is nowhere close. "Sounds useful. But I'd prefer not to insult you with my counteroffer and its scarcity of zeroes at the end."
She does dabble with a small (100gp) bet on herself, meaning The Last Copper wins and Aino herself is not knocked out.
Since I suppose she might as well, she casts the following 2 rituals in order in the 20 minutes before the match: Water Breathing (on whole party, lasts 24 hours) Comprehend Languages (on herself, lasts 10 minutes so hopefully the entire match)
Just before the match itself, she starts her bladesong as usual.
Merchant: too rich for your blood eh.... come back come back I have a steal for you. Discount potions I buy from an alchemist in training. Today I have 3.
Potion of greater healing
Potion of flight
Potion of bulls strength.
10 gold each or 20 for the lot what you say? No wait today is the end of phase 1 of the competition. I'll give you the lot for 10 gold.
With your passive insight you gleaming that a merchant who is tring to sell you potions above marketing value would not pass these off for this cheap if they where not either fake or had some sort of risk to them.
Casey doesn’t bet this time, and just thanks the merchant for showing the potions. “We don’t ave close to that kinda coin yet, mayhap sometime.”
prior to the battle time, she casts aid at 3rd level, giving 10 HP to Aino, Kileprat and herself (Storm has the most Hp and now has good Ac)
She plays a song called “We are the Champions” (perform check 21) in the ready room, which gives bardic inspiration to her companions (note: now it is a 1d8 inspiration die).
as they step through the portal, she will cast shillelagh on her club using her Bandore, just in case she does get in melee range- which she’s hoping she won’t!
DM: have a day of meeting (FML) so I'm going to discide the transition now.
As yall finish with the merchant and start the walk to the arena you notice more of the usual fan fair. A few fans line the walk wanting auto graphs ect. You see a few merchants selling Last Copper Tee shirts.
Sorath "Word travels fast you are becoming the people's champions"
DM: With your performance in the arena, Casey's performances, and your stance against the Syndicate the party has banked 1 inspiration point each. The point does not expire but also dies not replenish.
In the arena you hear the roar of the crowd, an occasional BOOM and Dan's voice, "Good God's there's nothing left?!"
“I’ve got 205 gold ye can borrow, mayhap one o’ the others can spot you the last 5… oh wait.. eers that coin that thug had. Now I’m down to almost me last Copper. But I love that name...” Casey replies to Storm.

Finishing up your conversation you take the Thug outside. Two Thugs are waiting across the street, with yout passive they seem to have been there a while. As you deposit your charge unceremoniously into the gutter to lay among the trash and chamber pot offerings.

“Dividin whot’s left, eer’s 5 gold n 5 silver fer each of you from the thug”. Casey says.
The merchant has the following potions:
Greater healing
Potion of mind reading
Resistance
“Welp I’ll buy this cloak, I haven’t much money to bet- on us or anything. Do we want to put in a team bet?” Casey asks.

"Ah good eye, could be very useful in today's fight. 10,000 gold I'll give you the lot and toss in 2 potions of healing"
Storm will thank Casey for the loan, he will also express to the group that the interrogation was fine with him as those that commit injustice deserve to be punished.

You can sell it for 37 gp
Aino is polite with the potion merchant, but takes tactic of just thanking them and walking away. Which is what she'd do even if she had 10,000 gold to spend, but in this case she is nowhere close. OOC: Inspiration is a D6 on any D20 roll right?
Before you roll a D 20 in which you could have advantage. You can declare inspiration and roll with advantage.
Kileprat has upgraded to level 5, giving her 'Fast Movement', and 'Extra Attack'. And taking her hit points up to 55, and added the temporary 10 hp.
She looks at the merchant. "Put 100 gp on Last Copper, we will win this."
She walks into the arena with Last Quip held high over her head pumping her other arm up and down to the chants of the crowd.
Fast Movement - Starting at 5th level, your speed increases by 10 feet while you aren’t wearing heavy armor.
Extra Attack - Beginning at 5th level, you can attack twice, instead of once, whenever you take the Attack action on your turn.
Edit: Subtracted the 100 gp for the bet.
(Bardic inspiration is a 1d8 now from Casey . GM granted inspiration is a free advantage used when it really counts)
