Finns remembered the map and frowned a bit: "Have nothing against checking that room, but only that room. The cave deeper is full of glowing fungus, and if I know anything about fungus - you do not want to touch unknown one. I say, after we check that south room - we go all the way back north - there was nothing interesting in that fungus room anyway."
"Yes" said Nemean in agreement, "We will check this forgotten room, and then explore the Eastern cavern from south to north. Touching as little fungus as is possible all along the way. Surely the lost Forge cannot be far from us now! With The Black Spider in chains and Grol dead who now can stop us from taking this place, and letting it be restored by its dwarven caretakers!"
He excitedly prowls down the hallway with his sabers drawn.

Er, I think Finna was sayin' th' opposite, says Thulgrim with a confused scratch of his head. You might be able t' sneak through all that fungus, with your soft paws, but us dwarves ain't renowned for our careful tread. I'm with the druid - check th' southern room first, then skip th' fungus and start searchin' th' east wing from th' north.

How does a red dragon blow out the candles on its birthday cake?
OOC: @Nemes1s, please confirm Roland's hit dice when you are able. I'll move us forward for now.
It has not been eight hours since Finna cast darkvision, so everyone can still see in the darkness.
Despite Nundro's bluster, he is already fast asleep leaning against a wheel of the wagon as you return to the entrance of Wave Echo Cave.
This time, when you descend the ropes into the darkness of the rift below, you move through the tunnel to the right, first entering a large cavern with many intersecting tunnels. The walls are carved with simple reliefs showing dwarf and gnome miners hard at work. Below them, nearly two dozen skeletons in rusted scraps of armor are scattered across the cavern floor. Some are dwarf skeletons, while others are orc remains. Half a dozen large brass lanterns stand in niches or on ledges around the cavern, but none are lit. Nearly a dozen dead stirges, mosquito-like creatures the size of a bat, are scattered across the floor, remnants of a feral battle with Nemean and Roland's first foray.
Thulgrim leads the way toward the tunnel to the south, which leads to a four-way intersection. Ahead, the tunnel ends in a partially excavated rock face, and each side tunnel ends in a stone doorway, one still standing open to a small office-like chamber.
Thulgrim has been here before, and he enters the east office, locates the strongbox, and attempts to open it. He's hoping for some treasure, but a map of the mine would be welcome too.

How does a red dragon blow out the candles on its birthday cake?
Thulgrim waltzes into the chamber, which looks to have once been an office or storeroom of some kind. A large stone counter bisects the room, set with three dusty balance scales made of iron. Cubbyholes carved into the north wall are stuffed with dusty paper scraps. Several long-dead corpses--gnomes and orcs by their look--are sprawled across the floor.
Thulgrim hefts an iron strongbox from behind the counter, setting it atop the structure, and finds it locked by a mechanism built into the container by fine gnomish hands. The chest and its lock have aged well through the years.
Ah, locked o' course! Thulgrim replies to Roland with a frustrated punch of the iron box and a perfunctory glance around for a key. It nae be worth notchin' me axe over. Probably jus' coin by th' feel. Th' locksmiths'll 'ave a look when the clan arrives. Then looking up at Roland he asks: You don't know anything about locks, do ye?
Once the party is ready to leave, Thulgrim crosses the corridor and attempts to open the next door. Based on his understanding of mining operations, it is likely to be another office, such as a weighing, counting or dispatch room, and may also hold some treasure. He licks his lips...

How does a red dragon blow out the candles on its birthday cake?
OOC: I was wondering that myself! Not like a rogue to willingly pass up the opportunity to pick a lock. Also, for what it's worth, Roland's bonus with Thieves' Tools should be a +6 (4 from DEX, 2 from proficiency).
The strongbox has an old but advanced locking mechanism. Roland begins the attempt focused in heavy concentration, but even though the lock was clearly designed to keep even the best of thieves deterred, it is no match for this rogue. After a few minutes, the lock cracks open, and you find Thulgrim's estimation to be correct. The box is filled with many different kinds of coins, and after a few more minutes of counting, you have divvied up 600 copper pieces, 180 silver pieces, 90 electrum pieces, and 60 gold pieces.
After splitting up the coins, Thulgrim wanders across the corridor to the opposite door, swinging it open.
Splintered stone benches and heaps of rubble from a partially collapsed ceiling fill the small room inside. Amid ruined stone bunks and toppled weapon racks are the bones of several dwarves and orcs.
OOC: Split evenly, each character has received 150 cp, 45 sp, 22 ep, and 15 gp. There are 2 ep left over to be claimed.
"No forge, huh? A pity. Though... Just a though - do any of you actually know how that magical forge should look like? Hope we did not pass it yet." Finna looked at the mixed bones. "Quite a funeral you will have to do, unless, of course, we do not add our bones to the pile."
OOC: Yep, the tunnels extend to both sides from that first rift in the entrance.

Cool. Shortcut to the loot. That's where Thulgrim suggests the party re-enter the mine.
