Thatch shakes off a brief feeling of suspicion as he opens the chest and some of the vapor hits him. Regaining his senses, he nods to Valor “Yes, sir. Right as rain. Never seen the likes of these coins though, they have holes in the middle. Are they worth anything?” He looks over at Sir Valor and Father Bretwald, eyes sparkling with excitement. He had never seen so many coins in his life. As Hotspur suggests they place them in the bag and move on, Thatch begins scooping them into the leather bag, being careful not to disturb the red hair. “What do you think the hair is? A favor from a lady?”
" Its gold, so its always worth something....and these being ancient they may well be worth more to a collector."
The coins are gathered into the bag, which ends up holding about half the coins and the rest need to be carried elsewhere.
Heading back out the companions are, with a little effort, able to lift the portculli in order to continue on.
Beyond the portculli, you are approaching the end of the corridor. Double doors lie ahead—of black wood bound with verdigris stained copper. There is a smaller door in the north wall, and a passage leading off to the south.

Cainneach readies his bow as well and suggests, "Perhaps the smaller door first? The large doors seem ominous and who knows how far the open passage stretches into this dungeon." He also offers to help carry any of the coins that remain.

About all he can reckon is that the wood is not local and therefore the doors were probably quite expensive.....unless magic was used...but he has even less experience with that.

“But anything worth finding will be behind the fancy doors.” Thatch protests before looking back at Father Bretwald “What do we expect to find anyway? A test, treasure, the return of the King himself?" Thatch moves forward to inspect the doors closely, looking to see if they are locked or protected by traps.

As far as Thatch can determine neither of the doors are trapped.
Father Bretwald shrugged, " The Treasures of the Kingdom must be here somewhere. We have already faced a test of arms. The chest a test of skill...or perhaps something else depending on what that vapour was supposed to do."
(Just orienting myself... we entered the tomb at the east end of an east-west hallway. The tapestry and the hidden room were on the south wall. We continued westward past portculli. We reached a corner where the hallway turns south. Immediately west are double doors, and north is a smaller single door. Correct?)
Hotspur advises, "If more tests and challenges await us, it would seem reasonable that the greater test would lie behind the greater entrance. So, if we are ready for that, westward ho! If we need to rest and regroup, perhaps seeking out a smaller chamber that is easily defensible would be advantageous. Plus, after fighting shadow warriors from an old tapestry, I could use a little liquid courage to calm my nerves."

Dru says, “I think we should go through the small door first. Being fancy is often false, like a cathedral for a dead faith.” She looks at Bretwald when she says the latter.
Bretwald looked mildly uncomfortable at Drus pointed look, but she thought it more shame than anger at first blush.
" I agree, the smaller door lies south as did the map room...there may be something useful within. Whether we then go to the passage or the large doors I leave to your discretion."

Thatch looks at Father Bretwald curiously as he answers “You have no idea what we will find here, do you? What ‘tests’ we can expect. Very well, seems like the smaller door holds the most interest.” Looking at Sir Valor for any sign of disagreement, Thatch opens the smaller door and gestures one of the stronger warriors forward while looking into the room to see what it holds. Perception: 16.

Bretwald shook his head, " Little survives from Vallandars day, I know that the Treasures of the Kingdom are supposed to lie here and that some passages refer to it as the Test of Vallandar, others to the Tomb of Vallandar."
" That is almost all I know, except for where it was situated which only came to me by chance."
Morseth stands ready with his dagger in case of more danger
As the lantern light shines down a short passage it shows a small circular chamber with no other exits. as far as you can determine the wall is covered with markings that follow some unfathomable geometric principle.
Something hangs in the air in the middle of the chamber. It is spinning in place incredibly fast, seemingly flashing red and blue-white.
Thatchs keen eyes are able to see that it is some sort of shaft about the length of his forearm.... one end glows a dull red, the other sparkles with blue-white light. The central section is black and unreflective.

" Well, lad.", ventured Father Bretwald.

Dru, standing in the back of the group, readies her bow to fire at whatever may spring from behind the double doors.

(Is the spinning shaft floating, or do we see a wire or string holding it aloft?)
Hotspur grins at Dob, and says, "I'm sure our fame precedes us, we need no introduction!"
Valor looks at the hanging, spinning thing. "Curious... Any ideas?" He asks no one in particular.
