Avaria listens closely to every word her friend says. Her eyes getting moist from the story, she holds her tears in, this wasn't about her, it was about Ethel.
As her friend coughs bad and sharply, Avaria pulls out her water skin and offers it silently, not offended if it isn't taken. When Ethlehyn finally looks at the shifter and she sees the tears falling down her face, Ava pulls her into an embrace. She doesn't expect Ethel to hug her back, just wanting her stature to comfort the woman. If Ethel pushes her away, Ava doesn't persist, merely nods and turns away.
She holds her friend for a moment, as long as Ethel allows her and lets her go, turning to go back inside. Heading straight to bed without looking at anyone else as she is deep in thought, feeling the pain of her friend.
(Sorry for the double take, just wanted to lay out what she does depending on how Ethel receives her)
Ethel doesn't resist the hug, but she stiffens slightly before relenting, patting Avaria gently on the shoulder before turning back to the sea.

As Ava turns and departs, Jan's face peers out from under the fisherman's hat, giving her friend a reassuring nod and gesturing to Ethel to indicate that she's looking out for the other woman while giving her the space she needs.
After returning to the Broken Ore, Jan will inquire with Ula's parents about a few things she needs.
"I was wondering if you might have a brass brazier and a bit of charcoal that I could make use of. If not, I can see what the shops around might have in the morning."
((If they do have what she needs, and it's not terribly late, she'd spend an hour or so before turning in casting her spell if there is somewhere she can burn incense and herbs without disturbing others overly much.))
"Does it need to be clean, dear?" Maisie asks Jan. She looks at Olek with a half stern, half amused look on her face. "Someone was supposed to polish all the brass."
She pulls a tarnished brazier out of the kitchen and hands it to Jan.
"Please put it back when you're done," Maisie says. "And I think there's plenty of charcoal in the fireplace."
"Not at all, I'll see it's polished when I'm done, thank you!"
Jan will make use of a fireplace to vent the smoke if one is available that allows privacy, otherwise will try to use a back courtyard or the like, falling back to stuffing rags under the door of her room and cracking a window if that's the best she can do. She will light the charcoal and conduct the ritual, sprinkling herbs into the coals and lighting incense and letting it smolder as she attempts to call forth an elemental spirit.

Once everyone is safely back inside the Broken Ore, Maisie and Olek lock up for the night. Ula shows everyone to rooms on the second floor. They’re simple but spotlessly clean rooms – a bed, closet, window and just enough room for equipment not to block the doorway. The larger rooms on the other end of the floor are taken up but a few paying guests. The Stonecast family has a suite of private rooms on the third floor.
While everyone has had a more or less physically uneventful day, there is a lot to think about and plans to make.
Captain Mard’s parting words to Jan were that the mayor would likely want to do up a big show of taking possession of the pirates around lunch time tomorrow. He’d send word with details once he knows them.
While some fall into deeper sleep than others, and some of you toss fitfully as your dreams replay everything you’ve been through, and Jan enters the trance of her people, much of the night passes uneventfully.
But about halfway through the night Avaria pops awake. Her slightly stronger senses have heard something; something that doesn’t sound right. Before Avaria can get up to investigate she hears it again; the muffled sound of a struggle outside her room.
Ethel's story still clinging to her thoughts, Avaria climbs into the fresh clean bed trying to enjoy the thought that not only was she free again, she had a new family, friends to be with, protect, and that filled her with such contentment, that she was able to fall into a deep sleep.
Until the sound outside her door woke her. She sat up with a start and as she was getting out of bed, she hears it again. Not pausing to grab anything, she wrenches open her door to see what is going on.
Avaria whips open the door and sees the door across the hallway to Hammerdasher's room also stands open.
Avaria sees Hammerdasher fighting, someone of the same size and build. When the pair shuffle back and turn slightly, Avaria gets a view of the second person.
Hammerdasher is fighting Hammerdasher.
Both spot Avaria and almost simultaneously they both say "Don't just stand there lass, help me."
Avaria's mouth drops open as she tries to understand what is going on. Trying to determine which is the real Hammerdasher, she asks, "Tell me who I accidentally killed our first time in the arena."
((Jan would have remained in the room for her trance, rather than departing to the comfort of her ring, to also spend time with her new companion, K’oshash. When it got late enough that she needed to rest, she'd have done so.))

Her first night free since their imprisonment.

Both Hammerdasher's stare at Avaria for a moment, briefly forgetting their own fight, confusion on both their faces.
Eventually the Hammerdasher on the right says, "that wee gnome."
Before they can say more, the Hammerdasher on the left says, "his name was Jaroo."
The Hammerdasher on the right brings a short sword up to slash at the one on the left.
Avaria shouts, "A little help?!" hoping to wake others around them.
Confused how they both would know, she sees the blade come out and goes to grapple the one on the right, to pull him away from the one on the left.
