The guard, barely standing, still manages to deflect both Ula and Marrin's blows. He decides it would be wise to disengage and runs in the direction of the other approaching footsteps.
"Over here. Intruders."
He takes off across the parade grounds that dominate the compound between the mayor's council building / home you saw earlier and what looks, sounds, and smells like the stables.
As things come undone, she hears Ethel and seeing how well she took care of the guards, Avaria just nods. Turning on her heel after Jan's call she starts dashing towards them. On the way, her emotions get the most of her and she starts raging... she can't help it. This man, this supposed leader of the people, one that all should be able to trust... she grits her teeth as she runs to catch up.
Both Tammer and Slick try to get Ethel’s attention.
“Let us go and we’ll help you get out of here,” Slick says. Then Tammer adds “Let bygones be bygones and all.”
The remaining guard sees things going badly but with the suddenly appeared wolf person running off, he still sees a way out. If he can stop this wizard, he can wake up the others.
The remaining non sleeping guard lunges at Ethel as hard as he can.
Spear at Ethel: Attack: 6 Damage: 6
At the stairs, Jan’s able to get just about caught up to the mayor and get enough of a glimpse up the stairs to let her pick her spot. She materializes ahead of the mayor, just as Avaria closes the distance and catches sight of the mayor with his foot on the bottom step.

Ethel’s up.

Mayor’s Compound – Outside:
Marrin doesn’t see or hear Ula but as she races back to the main gate, she’s sure she hears the faint clink of chainmail bouncing in the night.
The gate looks like it would be quick to open, just need to move the wooden bar holding the doors closed. The wall itself looks just as splinter heavy and unfriendly to climbers as the outside did.
Marrin’s able to get the gate open as three guards come into view from around the corner of the mayor’s home/office.
“Stop right there,” one of them calls.
As the gate swings open, Marrin can make out 6 hooded figures jogging towards the compound from the town.
Marrin stands in the open gate and looks at the six running towards the compound then looks over her shoulder at the three guards running at her, trying to gauge which group is going to arrive at her first.
She'll give the six running towards the compound a tentative wave.
((Is the board to secure the door loose or does it swing up and down?))
(Slides in to two slots to bar the door. Right now the door would swing open but it could be closed and locked with an action - both groups would get there about the same time - realistically one turn).
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Ethel sighs as the guard tries and fails to attack her. "Once more..." she says with a wave of her staff and a whispered word.
Sleep: 20 targeting a space that would only impact the last remaining guard.
If that puts him to sleep, Ethel will proceed to ignore Tammer and Slick.
Was this room locked? [DM mentioned a guard opened this door.] Does one of them have the key? If so, she will grab the key, step out of the room, and lock the door behind her.

Ethel finds herself surrounded by four sleeping guards, and a pair of squirming, tied up pirates.
“Come on, we’ll make it worth your while,” Tammer says.
She begins searching through the guards’ pockets and pouches in search of a key. That will take a few moments.
Meanwhile, down the hallway, around the bend and on the bottom step, Mayor Klein takes in his predicament.
“Well, best to regroup and take another tack, don’t you think?” Klein says. “No point using my own brawn.”
This time he whispers something in a language neither Jan nor Avaria know or recognize. No sooner has he said the last of whatever he’s saying and he blinks out of sight - no sign of him in any direction that Jan or Avaria look.
Three guardsmen approach Marrin at a run, while six hooded figures approach the palisade gate from the road, both likely to get to where Marrin stands in a matter of seconds.
"That little f#$%^r...", Jan mutters. She heads the rest of the way up the stairs, and looks for a place she might be able to reach and hide, in case he pops out up here again. She'd also have an eye out for valuables, just in case.
((If there's no where she can reach, she may use disguise self to change her appearance instead.))
She throws open the gate and cuts out to the side, following the wall so she is out of sight of the guards but not too very far off from the entrance. She'll keep an eye on the six coming to see if they all veer after her.
Seething from rage, but having nothing to attack, Avaria punches the wall next to her in frustration. She follows Jan up the stairs but heads to the outside, wondering if the mayor might try to escape all together.
Ethel eventually finds what appears to be a master key in the pocket of one of the sleeping guards.
“If you know what’s good for you,” Slick says. “You’ll untie us right now.”
Tammer on the other hand is now very quiet and just watching Ethel.
Ethel quickly discovers the room she’s in doesn’t have a lock. It appears to be more of an interrogation room than a cell.
Meanwhile, Jan and Avaria make it up the stairs and into the large reception room, the one with the low-burning lanterns casting the same gentle glow over a long table in the center of the room and onto tapestries hanging from the walls depicting different images of Spandelyion.
Unless the tapestries are valuable, and it’s hard to see in this light, Jan doesn’t spot anything of immediate worth.
From here the pair can see out into the office they came through (to the west), and out into the initial entry hall. There are the stairs leading down to the dungeon cells (to the south). There’s a stairway that leads up and next to those there are two closed doors in the north wall.
There’s no sign of the mayor, however the pair can hear footsteps running in from the entry hall but they can’t see anyone.
Marrin sees one of the hooded figures point from Marrin to the gate. The other five continue on to the gate. But the one that pointed veers off to intercept Marrin.
The figure pulls their hood back and the moonlight reveals Mard Dantakain, the captain of the Spadeliyon Guard.
“What are you doing here? You were warned about coming back here?”
From the gate Marrin can hear angry shouting between the two groups but can't really make out what they're saying.
The mayor was about 30' down the tunnel, right where it turned to go back towards where the stairs were.
Jan runs to the corner, and peers around, trying to get eyes on the Mayor.

Inside the Compound Walls:
Marrin smacks back against the guard, causing him to crumple to the ground in a heap.
The remaining guard shouts for help before stabbing at Ula again. (Attack: 14 Damage: 3 )
Marrin and Ula can hear footsteps running their way from the other side of the compound.
Down below:
Jan gets to the corner, peers around and sees the mayor about 30’ ahead, right at the foot of the stairs.
--------------------------------------
Rest of Jan’s turn then Avaria.
Ula pushes the spear aside with her shield and then brings the warhammer around again (Attack: 15 Damage: 7 ).
Marrin's also up - one guard still stands, and others sound like they're approaching.
Bop!
Attack: 26 Damage: 9
Jan will sprint forward, "Not so fast, we've some questions you'll be answering."
She vanishes in a swirl of dust, reappearing in a swirl of the same midway up the stairs.
((Action - dash, bonus action misty step to block his exit up the stairs.))

"Okay. Blew this. Time for me to get out of here. I'm going to disappear you, head in and find them. I'll make my way back in soon."
Marrin puts her hand on Ula's back, casts invisibility, and then heads towards the exit or over the fence, if it looks easier from this side.
