After enhancing her abilities with some magical augmentation, Strix is finally able to discern not just a clue, but a full revelation. Almost as if the divine radiance of the spell lit a lamp of revealing light, Strix suddenly realizes that some of what at first appeared to just be nothing more than natural erosion marks on the tunnel's stone walls, are actually artistically crafted arrows indicating direction. As soon as she makes the realization Strix heartbeat quickens and she shows everyone the proper angle needed to clearly discern the markings. In a flash, the group's frustration turns to excitement and they move through the twisting and turning tunnels following the oh-so-subtle directional markers at every juncture. Finally the group comes to what appears to be a dead end, but much in the same fashion as the directional markers, the group notices some of what just looks like the slow erosion of wind and water is actually expertly crafted Dwarven runes. Harbek, being the boisterous soul that he is, reads them aloud: "For Furuflaten make fire."

At first, when Kelsin sparks up the wick on her candle and the small flame begins to flicker, everyone holds their breath with the expectation that something amazing would happen. After more than a minute of staring at the same dead end with expertly hidden Dwarven runes carved into it, and nothing happening. Everyone turns to look at each other with a look that says, "now what?"
Was going to roll an Insight check for everyone, but then Kelsin rolled a Nat 20 so... Rolls are in the game log.
Then, almost unbidden an idea pops into Kelsin's head. She brings the candle flame forward and actually presses the tip of the candle against the rune covered slab of rock. Her intuition bears fruit as the satisfying sound of stone scraping on stone resonates all around. In a flash, and a bright flash at that, because outside it is just past midday and Amryn's sun beats down out of a cold azure sky sending blinding rays of light through every crack that cracks as, the magical Dwarven doorway opens up. After a moment the door slides completely to, and outside the band sees rocky hills in all directions. Outside of their newly opened secret doorway, the groups sees a drift of thick snow. No trail, no tracks, nothing to mark the area as some place that Dwarves, Men, or Elves used to travel regularly. Harbek takes one look outside at the cold harsh landscape and says, "I liked it better when that door was shut!"
Strix checks her map and notes and says, "Well, if my map is correct we should be facing just about due east. The fort is northwest and up a steep, twisting rise, but the map says there's supposed to be a trail."
Kyomi holds her hands up against her eyes to shield them from the absolutely harsh glare of the sun off of the pure white crystalline snow. After listening to Strix she says, "Yeah, I'm sure in midsummer there's a trail here easy to see, but this is the absolute dead of winter. I'd say we best tie ourselves together with rope, and do what needs doing. Unless you all want to wait around here till twilight and hope we have a cloudless night to travel by?"
"I agree lets get going" says Kelsin. She takes out her rope and ties everyone together. She then heads out moving towards the northwest. Kelsin keeps an eye for a twisting rise and any danger
"Clouds or no clouds, we all see just fine in the dark, but it's not going to get any warmer when the sun sets. Hopefully we'll make Furuflaten by nightfall."

After strapping together with rope and testing that it is secure, the group heads out into the biting cold of the Druraka Mountains in mid-winter. Each step is hard fought, and several times the more stout members of the group were forced to pull not only their own weight, but to help those with less strength to forge their way ahead. Morbrukk, being the tallest and strongest, took the lead, with Harbek and Strix directly behind helping to navigate. After a time, Kelsin noticed the tops of some well worn standing stones sticking out of the snow at regular intervals, and following them with her eye realized that they were markers of some sort. All but screaming to overcome the gusty wind that drove bitter-cold snow swirling around them all, Kelsin made her comrades aware of the markers. After that, their movement was at the very least guided and purposeful, though no less easy. After about an hours march up the craggy mountainside, the sun dipped behind the mountains to the west and the dimness of twilight began to settle in. It was at that moment that Strix finally caught site of the tall stone tower sticking up out of the snow on an outcropping plateau several hundred feet above them and to the north. She called everyone's attention to it, and they quickened their steps in the hopes of making it there before dark.
More than another hour later the group finally approached the tall stone tower, but as they approached Morbrukk stopped their movement and held up a hand signaling for quiet. There, in the snow, was a bright red splatter of fresh blood. From the splash a small trail of blood darted across the stark white snow heading in the direction of the tower.
(OOC: Everybody roll a Nature check for me. I'll roll for Kyomi.)

"I don't have a clue to what or who has shed this blood. Lets be careful" says Kelsin. She then follows the blood trail to the tower doors while keeping an eye out for danger

With the wind whipping the snow around the mountainside at such an ungodly pace, the entire landscape changes in mere moments. Any tracks that would have been visible or discernible in the crystalline powder were long since swept away by the drifting snow. Even as the group moves forward following the trail of fresh red blood, it starts to disappear as blowing snow covers it up. Everyone gets a weapon to hand, but being tied together with rope means the group is terribly vulnerable to ambush. As the group approaches the huge wood and black-iron double doors of the entry building attached to the Furuflaten tower, a blood-curdling roar breaks through the wind. Morbrukk looks toward the source of the sound and realizes that what he thought was just more swirling snow is actually a yeti! A Yeti whose fangy maw is dripping with the fresh red blood of the shaggy mountain goat it just killed and dragged back to the lee of the fort to feast upon. "Desmo's blood! A yeti!" He screams out a warning to his comrades and points his axe in the direction of the giant monstrosity.
(OOC: So, not only was the yeti unsuccessful in hiding, it also rolled terribly low initiative, so you all go first. Important metagame notes for this combat. 1) Unless you take an action to "unhook" yourself from the group, your movement speed is 5' because the rope restricts your movement. 2) Everywhere around you is difficult terrain because of the thick snow drifts. So, even if you unhook as an action, you're only going to be able to move half your movement speed. Which brings me to 3) the yeti is currently 40' away standing on the wind-sheltered side of Furuflaten's entryway building. Again, if you have questions to make sure that you're making the right game choices, post them in our private message chat. I'll post Kyomi's actions after I see everyone else's. Hopefully the combat dice are nicer than the Skill dice were.)

Kyomi, having never seen anything like this creature that Morbrukk called a "yeti" before, reacts instinctively. Almost without thinking her hand is enveloped in a sickly purple-green glow of arcane power, and she punches the air in the direction of the Yeti releasing a beam of the crackling arcane power directly into the monstrosity's chest, scorching some of its fur and flesh.

Kelsin snuffs out the candle and puts it away. She shields her eyes from the light. "That is a bit too bright. Where do we go from here?"
