Ophelia furrows her brow. She flips to a different page in her book, one of tales and myths. She quickly finds a tale of the famous sailor Sandro and his battle with the king of the manticores. She locks eyes with the manticore and speaks the words that Sandro spoke to weaken the beast's resolve. A harsh, guttural noise erupts from her throat as she casts Vicious Mockery.
Damage 6 if the manticore fails a WIS saving throw, DC 14
Her owl familiar, Minerva, will fly past the manticore and use a help action.
The next time the manticore attacks, she has a reaction prepared . . .
Glyph stands safely behind the nearest mast and notices the Manticore begin to lift into the air. Glancing around at ship’s defenders, nearly all of them eyeing the beast, he quickly shifts to the right, giving him a momentary view of the monster. Noticing the owl's distraction, the half-elf lifts both empty hands into the air, and quickly flicks his wrists, sending two spectral, shimmering daggers over the heads of the crowd toward the Manticore. Not waiting to see the result, Glyph turns back toward the mast, and curses to himself. He looks up and sees a crewmember staring him.
“I can see the chapter heading now: The Desert’s Kiss: Skirmish over the Savage Sands!” he exclaims, spreading out his hands and quickly pasting his ivory-white smile back onto his face. Sudden inspiration strikes him as he begins muttering, quite audibly. “Of course, it’d be better to have the ship partially in flames and switch the creature for a red dragon, which the half-elf hero would defeat by single-handedly loading, aiming, and firing the last working ballista on the ship. I’ll have to write that down when I get a mo.”

Firebrand lets out a less-than-holy sounding curse as he fails to land a blow on the fleeing Manticore with his opportunity attack.
"May the Nine Hells take you!" he yells at the monster defiantly, stabbing his sword into the deck as the manticore is no longer close enough for him to strike with the blade.
He pulls out a javelin, hurling it at the manticore with all his might.
Attack: 24 Damage: 8
With his second attack, he expels a burst of crimson flame into the sky at the manticore (Dex save DC 13, half-damage on success), letting out a roar as the inferno explodes from his jaws.
Fire damage: 14

Unhappy that the market got rid of individual purchases for one-off subclasses, magic items, and monsters?
Avris runs (~10ft?) past Firebrand in the direction the Manticore is flying, boots thundering against the deck. Eyes glowing with divine conviction, she raises her shield once more, but towards the beast, and says,
Jada hurriedly moves to a nearby mast. He calls upon the hexblade the source of his powers. "I beseech thee to curse my foes" Jada then thrusts his outstretched hands towards the manticore and fires a stream of sizzling purple energy. There is a brief thrum of energy as it fires and it leaves behind a lingering wisp of white smoke.

Ophelia senses the creature's mind is weakened by Jada's Hex. She utters a sharp rebuke in the ancient draconic tongue and lashes out with another Vicious Mockery. Damage 5 if the manticore fails a WIS saving throw, DC 14
Ophelia reaches forward and touches Firebrand's shoulder. "Strike true, arytivisupra," she says, channeling the warrior's hymn of the dragonborn people. As a bonus action she gives Firebrand a d8 of bardic inspiration.
Minerva once again harasses the manticore, distracting it and granting a help action to the next attacker.
Peering around the corner, Glyph sees the owl speeding away from the beast, and quickly raises his empty hands again, stepping out from the cover of the mast. The half-elf’s nimble fingers suddenly closed around another set of shimmering daggers. With another step toward the creature, the two daggers suddenly flash through the air—one slightly behind the other.
The silence of the psychic blades, even from within the midst of the chaos, was deafening. The first blade nearly shaved the ear off an unfortunate dwarf, while the second separated the ponytail from the back of a crewmember’s head. Glyph took another step and narrowed his eyes, tracking the daggers’ progress as they tore through the air toward the manticore.
“Hit, you little bastards . . .” he whispered to himself.
Firebrand feels the wave of bardic inspiration wash over him. He glances over his shoulder and gives Ophelia a quick smile of appreciation... but he knows he doesn't have the time to say much of anything.
He only had four javelins to begin with, and one is already embedded in the manticore, but he doesn't have any better way to strike at the beast. He mutters a quick prayer to Bahamut... using his bonus action to cast Divine Favor (I double-checked, as far as I can tell the bonus damage does work on ranged attacks).
Then, he hurls two javelins at the manticore. He knows it's a long shot, but he also knows that he doesn't have any other options (rolling with disadvantage for being outside of the javelin's 'normal' range)
Attack: 8 Damage: 10 Divine Favor: 3
Attack: 16 Damage: 8 Divine Favor: 1
I will add the Bardic Inspiration in a follow-up post to one of the attacks depending the attack results.

WIZ save on Vicious Mockery 17; it was a 13 and fails taking the full brunt of Ophelia's spell damage!
Hurling his javelin Firebrand miss judges his aim and it hits a sail puncturing the canvas!
The manticore is very bloody but the last of Firebrand's javelins ends it's life! The monster drops dead onto the deck unmoving!
"Bloody watch where your aiming dragon," Nirah shouts from her balista. "Is it dead," the red-haired woman asks as she still moves the balista to the skies as if looking for another foe! "They're solitary creatures but rarely attack on their own," she adds her tone still wary as she looks back at the beast!
Initiative ended. Post at will!
"That beast was heartier than I recall them to be as well," Toryn Winters, an Eisfuura (bird people), says his white and bronze feathers ruffled as he leaves his balista, the only other gunman that loose a bolt into the creature!
Jada breathes a sigh of relief. "I believe it is dead, but lets be sure"says Jada. He walks over to the manticore and prods it with his Halberd. Carefully he looks for any sign of movement from the beast.
Avris rushes over to the nearest injured passenger and comes to a kneeling halt.
"Hello, love. My name is Avris. I'm going to take care of you. What's your name?" she asks while attempting to asses their wounds and the wounds of the others as best she can. She will help them from most severe to least, talking to them in a calm and friendly way as she bandages their injuries.
"I'm sorry that one of my javelins thrown at a manticore in mid-flight went wide while the other saved our hides," Firebrand growls at the captain. "I'll remember to stand here twiddling my thumbs next time."
After the words have left his mouth, he realizes that was probably more harsh than it needed to be.
"Okay, I probably shouldn't have said that," he says, though notably he does not actually apologize.
He retrieves his sword and approaches the seemingly dead manticore.
"I believe you're right," the dragonborn says to Jada. "But like you said, let's make sure."
He raises his blade and brings it down hard, hoping to sever the creature's head and make certain that it will cause no more trouble, then retrieves his javelins (assuming that they are still useable).
Bonus action? Movement? Can we get a little more flavor to these combat posts! Thanks!
What does Jada's eldritch blast look like? Color? Sounds? Smell?
Does Firebrand take defensive stances between blows? Does he harass his foe or bolster his companions?
You can hide, there's plenty of places on the deck. No enemies though it tail spiked those folks and sent them sprawling 10ft away!
Sometimes a Nat 1 tells a better story than a Nat 20 ever could.
Alright, I'll see what I can do about adding a bit more spiciness to the flavor text (once it gets back around to my turn).
