Andre, his shield down and bleeding from several lacerations, realizes it's time to cut his losses. Andre runs and leaps the fence, then leans against a tree panting.
"Well, that sucked," he says with a half-hearted laugh. "I think I figured out what the problem is... those damned rodents are possessed by the Devil himself."

‘What the hell?” Marnoa comes over to Andre, puzzled by the degree of injury and the behavior of the possessed wombats. “Do you want me to light them up for you? I can burn them up from here….” he holds an eldritch blast in his hands, then says “But then old Ulf will be mad. There must be some other way. I think no one else should get in there until we have a plan…”

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
"As much as blowing up the rodents sounds appealing... yeah, I don't think that the boss man would be happy," Andre says, staring down one of the possessed wombats. "I guess we're going with Fuego's idea... just let me put up a few Alarm spells to make sure that they don't follow us or get out of that damn pen before we go."
(Andre would like to spend the next 22 minutes ritual-casting Alarm twice to get back 4 points to his Arcane Ward, followed by casting Mage Armor to get it up to 6 points. He'll use the audible Alarm option so that he doesn't have to deal with the darn things pinging in his brain for 8 hours).
Fuego will spend the next 23 minutes boredly creating mini-flames at the tip of his raised thumb, then blowing it out, and having it come back again, like a trick birthday candle.
After Andre is finished with his magical preparations, you all set off to the west from the village. This takes you past the back of the tavern on your way out of town.
(Fuego, something strikes you as odd. Please make a Perception check.)

Andre wanders along, scratching his nose every so often, doing his best to distract himself from the images playing in his mind of those horrible, demonic animals.

Marnoaspots a trail leading from the pen into the woods. Taking a closer look at it, he can tell that it has been frequented recently, within the last week or so. It pretty clearly goes into the woods.
Fuego:
As you are passing behind the tavern, you notice something odd about the compost heap. There are the expected rotting vegetables and other foodstuffs, as well as manure that, due to its cubed shape, obviously comes from the wombats. But, you realize, some of the poo is quite large, a couple of inches on each size. You don't remember seeing any wombats that you would think are capable of such excretions.
Marnoa points out the trail from the pen to the woods and suggests that we follow it. “Let’s see if we can find an explanation for this. Something around here is very weird but we can’t quite get our hands around it yet. C’mon.”

Fortunately, his Arcane Ward takes almost half the damage. Unfortunately, the wombats still manage to get through the ward and scratch him up a bit.

Finally, he says, "Are you done yet??" to Andre.
"Give me a couple more moments," Andre says as he finishes off the second Alarm spell. "There. Now we'll know if the damned rodents make any trouble."
Then he casts Mage Armor.
