Had a quick question, are there any other military besides the knights? Going for a mercenary Veteran background.
Name: Hokuto Species: Minotaur
Class: Barbarian Bonus Feat: Chef
Background: Mercenary Veteran
Backstory & Reason for know Ispin:
Moving from skirmish to skirmish, Hokuto was always alone. During one of the more intense skirmishes Hokuto was injured and left dying on the battlefield. Think this was the end, Hokuto was saved by Cudgel Ironsmile. Waking up in her camp, Hokuto heard her tell stories of her comrade a Ispin Greenshield.Hearing these Heroic deed made a big impact on the loner Minotaur. He was given a new opportunity to live for something; something he didn’t think he could have.
During the years with Cudgel, Hokuto became a pillar in her mercenary band. Always staying behind making sure others made it back. He began to care for his comrades in arms. Hokuto wanted to do more for the band and began learning how to cook, which was very welcome. In fact he turned out to have a talent for it, so much so that others felt energized after eating his meals which always brought a smile to him. He learned, that though he may be intimidating he didn’t have to be.
One night while cooking Hokuto, over heard the sad news. Ispin passed, and that the band would be traveling to Vogler a small village by a river. Thinking to himself, Hokuto wouldn’t be where he was without Ispin’s tales. He felt he owed to Cudgel and Ispin to at least be present for his funeral even though he never seen the legend himself.
@BeastyC: There are town and city guards, but additionally there is a small mercenary organization run by a dwarf woman named Cudgel Ironsmile that is around near the beginning of where we'll begin the game that you Hokuto could easily be part of. They are in town because Cudgel was an adventuring comrade with Ispin, so you may know him through secondhand stories rather than an in-person meeting.
@JoanBaxter: I really like the feat. But I'm not sure that I understand what you are going for with the third characteristic. Are you saying that I can give the powers of any uncommon magical weapon or armor to normal weapons or armor using Blessing of the Forge? Or are you saying that I could add +1 to already uncommon magical weapons and armor (changing them to +2 potentially)? Also, not that it would come up, I imagine, but I could add common effects to normal weapons or +1 to common magical items, as well? Or am I misunderstanding entirely?
When asked about Ispin Greenshield Wilberforce gets a faraway look in his eyes and says "Ah Ispin, we had some good times together we did. A fine lad in a fight, but he couldn't find his way from one side of the forest to the other without bumping into every tree in sight. We first met when he hired me as a guide to help him find a little lost boy in the Darken wood. Obviously with my help we found the young one in no time flat. We only had a bit of trouble with some Dire Peacocks that isn't worth talking about. After that every time Ispin needed to go into a forest who would he ask for help? Me of course. A fine lad Ispin and he shall be missed"

@LorenzotheGreat: The intent was that you could add a +1 to an uncommon magic item in addition to it's existing bonus, so a +1 shield (which is uncommon) could become effectively a +2 shield while under the effect, or say a sentinel shield (also uncommon) could get a +1 on top while under the typical effect, but you wouldn't be able to improve a rare or better magic item.
@Dragonlouis: Sorry about that; if you or anyone else wants to keep following this thread, this is where I will look for replacements if we unfortunately lose players.

That sounds really interesting. Common magical items as well (armor of gleaming, for example)?
