Action: Ready to cast a spell, Trigger: as soon as Aoife escapes the grapple. Cast [Tooltip Not Found] and throw the flame at the rug 11, Damage: 10 (fire)
(OOC: Probably doesn't matter, but that was supposed to be Produce Flame.)
Aoife is almost completely covered by the rug though her feet are sticking out. The thorny vine wraps around Aoife lefts ankle hurting Aoife and yanks on her but the rug stays with her, so she is still stuck.
Valrieth refuses to believe that Aoife's destiny was to help defeat Skabatha Nightshaw only to be smothered to death by a rug! Combined with the giant snake attack at the Leaning Tower last week, Val is really beginning to hate anything that kills by constriction. Not knowing what else to do, Val attempts to disrupt whatever dark magic has animated this murderous rug.
Movement: None. Remain near the SW corner of the room. Action: Cast spell (LVL 3 slot) Dispel Magic on the rug Bonus Action: telekinetically shove the rug. The rug must succeed on a STR 15 save or be moved 5 ft toward Val. Hopefully, if the spell worked, that will pull the rug off of Aoife, and she'll be free. Free Action:
Immediately after Val's turn, the glittering fox (summoned beast) acts.
Movement: Stay within 5' of the rug. Action: Ready to make a melee attack, Trigger: as soon as Aoife escapes the grapple. Maul the rug, 20, Damage: 7 (piercing) Rolling the attack with advantage because of Pack Tactics. (I think that Finley or Spike would still be within 5' of the rug once Aoife is free.)
The summons beast bites the rug causing threads to come loose but there is no response from the rug as it lay crumpled on the floor. The shove easily moves the rug away again with no response.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Valrieth exclaims, "Aoife! Thank the Fates you're still alive!" Val is relieved but anxious to get the last of the children together and get out of Loomlurch before it kills them!
Val turns to the child in the corner, worried that they might have been frightened by the fight. She smiles and says, "Well, thank goodness that's over, right?" She gestures for the other child to come closer, and she explains, "Granny Nightshade is dead, and we're here to rescue you. Gather anything you need." She glances toward the door to the staircase, and if Elkhorn hasn't come inside, she calls for him to bring the other children into the room.
Next, they're going to have to figure out how to get everyone from here to the workshop safely.
Immediately after Val's turn, the glittering fox (summoned beast) acts.
Val ignores the fox while she talks to the children, but it continues to attack the rug. The fox scooches back, growls, and then pounces on the rug. It bites and shakes the rug, making high-pitched growls, excited that it's finally allowed to rip up this "toy."
Action: Attack 25 (assuming advantage against the immobile rug), Damage: 7 (piercing)
The children follow the party as they have no possessions besides the clothes on their back.
(OOC: How many children in this room? Just two? I've been keeping count so that we don't accidentally leave anyone behind.)
Valrieth asks Aoife, Ilifir, and Finley which way they want to go to get to the workshop (L4). They could go back to the stairs and down through the room (L7) where they saw the little painted "houses" and another one of those jack-in-the-boxes. The other option is to go through the room's other door, onto the balcony. If the tin soldiers are still distracted by the commotion with the scarecrows, the party and children might be able to climb down from the balcony to the garden and enter the workshop through the door on the west side of Loomlurch without having to fight a bunch of guards or pass the jack-in-the-box at the bottom of the stairs.
(OOC: I think that the balcony may be less than 10' off the ground because L9 is only half-way up the stairs to tower rooms. Also, if anyone else wants to search the room while Val gathers up the children and figures out how to get to L4, feel free. The party hasn't generally been looting every location in Hither and Thither, but since they killed the hag, Val figures that they might as well grab any valuables before Loomlurch collapses.)
"we'd probably have our best shot if we go for the stairwell as long as it doesnt go collapse on us" ilifir opines "we might be able to beat the tin soldiers, but i dont like the risk, or how long it might take"

This Mug immediately shared with me a transcendental tale of an Infinite Mug that anchors the Universe and keeps it from folding in on itself. I filed this report under "illogical nonsense" and asked why its sign is in Times New Roman font, when it is basic knowledge that Arial Black is a far superior font. I wondered: How did this mug even get past the assembly line with its theistic beliefs and poor font choices?

"Yes," Valrieth says, but she sounds dubious. She asks the children, especially the two that they just rescued: "Out this door at the bottom of the stairs, there's a room with 10 little houses. Do you know what's in those 'houses'?"
They seem scared at the mention of the little houses. "The tin soldiers stay there when not patrolling"
With that you can hear through L9's door the sound of several metallic feet coming from L7
"Oh no," Valrieth says, imagining six of the tin soldiers marching into the room. While she's at the western end of the room, she looks to the door and uses her telekinesis to swing the door shut. She's trying to buy them some time to decide what to do. She says, "Aoife, can you hold the door shut? I don't suppose you can lock the door with Granny Nightshade's keys?"
Movement: None, staying near the southwestern corner of the room Action: Cast a spell Mage Hand (silently and with an invisible hand) and have it push the door closed. Free Action: Talking
(OOC: I'm going to stop tracking the number of rounds left since the spell's duration is 1 hour. I expect that Val will lose her concentration on the spell or that the beast will be reduced to 0 HP before then. If not, it looks like the party will make it out of Loomlurch before an hour passes anyway.)
Immediately after Val's turn, the glittering fox (summoned beast) acts.
Val hasn't given the fox any new commands yet, and it happily continues "playing" with the rug. It's now standing on top of the rug with the end of the rug in its mouth. It's holding the rug down with its paws and pulling up, trying to tear a strip of the rug loose.
Action: Attack 20 (assuming advantage against the immobile rug), Damage: 7(piercing)

Rug Con Save vs Dispel Magic

The red rug relaxes its death grip on Aoife and uncoils like a drowsy snake. The rug now on floor no longer moves.
The summons beast bites the rug causing threads to come loose but there is no response from the rug as it lay crumpled on the floor. The shove easily moves the rug away again with no response.
End of Combat
Aoife stumbles, gasping for breath and coughing. "Th- thanks for the help. That was one nasty rug!"
She stomps on it a few times just to make sure it's taken care of.

The rug offers no resistance and seems like just an ordinary rug at this time.

The rug is even more damaged, and it does nothing. Whatever animated it before is now gone.
The children follow the party as they have no possessions besides the clothes on their back.
