Arrow and javelin pierce the Maticores hide. A final disbelieving cry escapes its maw ans it falls to the ground crashing through tree branches on the way. The great beast lies still and lifeless.
Kryinor knocks the Hobgoblin back, tearing his throat out as he does. Its bloody carcass lands in the underbrush.
Howls and the crashing of bushes herald the arrival of the last remaining hobgoblin. Terrified it runs headlong into Kargan as he powers his way through the forest. It does a double take and then goes for its weapon!
Seeing the Manticore heading earthbound once more, Titus stows his bow and shortswords out heads towards the fallen creature. Titus inspects the creature to ensure its dead and once satisfied it is he will inspect it for any useful items (perception 24 )and remove any parts he thinks may be of value ie. Teeth, Tail Spikes, Hair, Talons etc (history check - 5 Nature 8 Religion 20 ) He will take the Manitcore's mane (skinned and turned into a nice cape would make a nice gift for the barbarian. The body parts might be use for the our new wizard friend. The talons and teeth will make a nice trinket for myself and the dwarf he thinks)
completed he will head back to main fighting area and meet back up with others.
(he was so engrossed and concentrating on the Manticore that I doubt he will know that one Hob still remains)
Breccha would also like some claws and teeth from the Manticore to decorate his equipment with...and also his javelin back of it was not broken in the beast's fall to earth.
Carefully watching the outcome of the dwarf's attack on the hobgoblin, ready to charge in if required.
(ooc later if all is well)
Coming down from his rage Brecca feels weary and a deep melancholy descends on him. Growing quiet he begins to clean and bind any wounds and drink some water.
" I will need food and rest soon,"He says out loud finally...
Kargan cuts the last Hobgoblin down, his gruff dwarven voice echoes through the trees as the creatures body thuds upon the blood soaked ferns.
Blaze's thoughts come back to Kryinor, 'The enemy is no more. My pack must retreat to lick its wounds. I may be some moons till we meet again brother...'
Titus inspects and begins to butcher the Manticores corpse. Harvesting the claws, teeth, tail spikes, man, some blood, and its heart. all of which he thinks may be of some value or use.
Searching the gear of your defeated foes you find weapons and armour of good make and in serviceable condition. Scimitars, short bows, arrows, wooden shields, and leather armour [small] of the Goblins. Chain mail, longswords, long bows, arrows, and shields of the Hobgoblins. The long sword, chain mail, arrows and fine long bow of the Leader.
There are also some items of normal kit and equipment [Investigation check DC 11 to see if an item you are wanting/needing is among their possessions.]
A total of CP: 51 SP:11 GP: 38 in coins.
Breccha's javelin survived the creatures fall. and 1/3 of Titu's arrows are able to be recovered.
"Och, tha' was a gran' days work lads, a good number of grobbi will no trouble the world again! We still need to get the stolen equipment back from the grobbi camp, an' I hope they left some guards behind there, mae axe is still keen for more greenskin necks!"
" Some good sport no doubt my bow legged friend! I think we are in need of a good rest though. I know I am! From what I saw at their camp, I don't think there are any left, and if there is should only be a couple left to guard camp. I agree we should attend there forthwith. A good night sleep for all of you will do wonders. I'll pick up the trail to the castle in the morning, I think we are very close."
With that Titus places his hand over the manticore spike wound in his chest and walks off towards the pilled gear to start cataloguing it. When he picks up the longbow he will inspect its workmanship and test it to see if it has a similar draw weight to his own. Same for the arrows to see if they are suitable for his use.
"Well Chaps I feel that whilst it is various sizes, the armour and weapons appear serviceable and could very well be put use in Phandulin, I will stash it here and we can cart it back on our return. The finer stuff we scry later if no-one is up for it now. I'm looking forward to the morrows events! If a deputy can have such a beast for a mount, imagine what that fat goblin will have!"
"Oh, I nearly forgot, we need to ask some questions of our bedraggled spell thrower I found. - (standing up and brushing himself off from rummaging around in goblin kind gear, Titus takes out a handkerchief and wipes his brow and hands, placing the kerchief back in his pocket. and with a flourish of hands and a nod of his head he extends his right hand ) Well met my dwimmer gifted friend, I am Titus Vespasianus, recently of these environs and loving every minute of it! May I present this band of like minded scallywags. I'm sure they'll introduce themselves shortly but please, since I found you first, I get the first question. Tell us of how you found yourself trussed up like a fowl for dinner in the company of these dearly departed and what are your travel plans henceforth?"
" Not wise to split our packs right now brother, hostile wood, I go no further now that pack is safe. My plan, rest today, together, I help wounded brothers, all brothers. When sun is falling and both packs rested, then we split. your choice brother, if you choose to go now, call and I will come. I leave here in two moons time." Onceblaze has given Kriynor his answer he will shift back into his elven form and meet back with the rest of the party.
Talking to the party "It is still early in the day, plenty of time to kill greenskins in the afternoon Kargan, I think we should rest here for the day. We all need the rest, granted some of us more than others but if we keep pushing, we will run into something we cannot defeat at half strength..... "
With that Kryinor sits down and listens to what the rest of the group has to say.
'My pack mates tire of the two legs and their troubles...' Balze's thoughts come back Kryinor, 'They wish for the den and open sky...we will rest with you, but need to get back to the rest of our kin. Can you help the hurt ones?'
To Blaze "Yes brother, I will tend the worst wounds now, when rested, will be able to do more, the pack need not hunt for food tonight, Luna brings many gifts. My mind weary but bite is still strong. Sun falls, brothers and sisters return home to den."
To the party "If you wish to go to there camp now, then I will not stop you Titus or Kargan, but the wolves are wounded and I need rest, the greenskins have lost there commander, we will have atleast a day before they can regroup or figure out what happened. I will stay here and tend to the wounded. That way atleast one of us will have healing powers when you return.
Turning to Eedim and looking at his lack of equipment "I take it you will go with our sturdy dwarf and our suicidal elf to retrieve your gear? Take these with you if you do go, they might serve abit better than a branch." handing him one of the goblins wooden shields a short bow and a scimitar.
Now now lads, I know you’re tired but a victory is not complete until you’ve bivouacked on the ground of your enemy. We have two who have gear yet to retrieve, a short walk to get there and nothing of consequence to kill when we reach it.. a short walk through these marvellous woods now brings us that much closer to finding our friend. I assure you you’ll have no difficulties, the fighting is done this day. If you like I’ll scout back and make sure our enemy is truly vanquished.
while I prepare this stash of weapons for later our new friend can Regale us with his story! A mighty fine tale of adversity I’m sure.
Eedim finds a flask of some kind of rough spirits from one of the hobgoblin bodies, "For now I drink."He says, "...and when I'm good and drunk and this pain in me 'ead is gone..." he shrugs his shoulders.
"But I aint wearing no stinkin' grobbi shite..." then he smiles, "Appreciate the thought though."
To Titus "Titus, my friend, I understand that you and probably most of this party know warfare better than I, and while your plan is of sound logic, the wolves will go no further into the woods, they almost lost a brother for us this morning, several of them are wounded and need care. We have Eedim back, he was what I came for and now that he is back I will rest. "
To Eedim "ha, your a stubborn one aren't you! Well in that case, take this...." I hand him my elven make Handaxe "And don't you say no to it... I will take great offense if you refuse it. I expect it returned when you get your gear back" With a wolfish grin "Don't worry about me, my teeth are alot bigger when i need them to be"
Kryinors movements are sluggish and his head is hung low but as the wolves start to come into the camp he assesses there wounds with care and tenderness. He notes the ones with serious wounds. He will also look over the others applying bandages to those that accept his aid.As soon as everyone's wounds are tended too he will sit back down only meaning to rest his eyes for a second. Moments later his breathing changes and he is fast asleep still sitting against the tree.
Zaxx blinks as his vision goes all wibbly-wobbly and he remembers the arrow stuck deep in his leg. Someone is saying something about him ...
"Suicidal?! I'm sorry, good ... errr ... wolf-person, but I am far from suicidal!"
Zaxx draws in a breath and puffs out his chest. He'd doff his wizard's hat if it wasn't back at the gobbo camp.
"I am Zaxx Wendleburrough, Evoker of the Order of Flame, Seeker of Knowledge, Quest-taker and Scholar! And I ... am at your service."
Zaxx notes that the druid/wolfman is already sound asleep.
"That happens a lot," Zaxx shrugs. He spies his elf rescuer.
"Ah! Good elf! I must thank you again for your most timely rescue! You may well have ensured the safety and sanctuary of a most precious artifact ... assuming I can find it, of course," he mutters as an afterthought.
"Now though I am gravely wounded I must request that we return to the goblin camp as soon as able. There's a matter of my hat."
"Och, let the laddie sleep, he's fair done in. Breccha and the pups can stay an' keep 'im safe, the rest of us can go to the camp, an' be back 'fore 'e wakes"
