To Nilsa: "Well done today Nilsa, you have an aptitude for a rangers skills. If you want to become a bow maiden of the woods your road ahead is arduous but I feel you are capable of achieving it if you truly wish it. Tell me what you saw and more importantly felt today."
After we have finished talking about the days learnings: "Now tomorrow I head out to find this castle. This is a task far in excess of your current abilities my dear, this day mind, but not I dare say in a month or two! Provided you listen learn and obey! I have watched many a fine soldier or trainee ranger uselessly throw away their life because they lacked the humility to see their own limitations. Your time will come child, just not this day or next, you understand? I do have a task for you in my absence. I want you take practice the skills you started today, you movement, your listening, your sight and your bow. Your foraging, your tracking your hunting. To do this you will once a day, at different times and using a different route make a circuit of town without ever losing sight of the town masters roof. Never at night child, that will come later. You will practice you bow daily at both the butts and at hunt on rabbits, that child is your game animal until I tell you different, you will hunt 2 coneys a day in the fields around town, one with bow the other by trap or snare and you must prepare and eat these coneys with fresh gathered herbs understand? Coney are fast agile and alert, just like a ranger should be. To catch a coney successfully you have to be a coney. You must also practice sword work with Daran each day and in return you will listen to his wisdom for that man runs deep and to listen to him is hear very wise words indeed. Lastly and very importantly you must observe, I need to you see what happens in this town and its coming and goings, never put yourself in a position where someone can question you as to your doings, just always be aware of whats going on around you. Can you achieve all this?"
To Mirna: "Nilsa did very well she is a natural. I will not risk her needlessly. You should be proud of your daughter"
To the Party whilst taking to Kryinor: "Ah yes my sometime furry friend, I agree, I will not risk Nilsa at such a young age, she has many skills to develop yet. I propose to give her a task that will not needlessly endanger her but give her direction and purpose just the same. The party should set out 3 strikes before dawn and make the edge of Neverwinter wood at noonday or one strike after if we make haste. A short rest, and victuals then a good couple of strikes before sunset we should make our entry. We should move into the wood a good half strike timing moving silently and make camp in the trees. A few strikes spent listening to the sounds of the forest whilst sonorous to my elven ears, is also beneficial in determining whats going on. At dawn the next day we head deeper into the wood and find this blasted cursed kings castle and conduct our reconnoiter. "
To Kargan " I'm sure your axe will be well sated when we find the greenskins nest."
To Titus : "That makes me happy to hear, she has fire but i fear our focus would have been compromised with her there. That sounds like a promising plan, i will let the pack know about the changes and then i will get an early night so that my spells are at there full potency tomorrow. It is time bring balance back to the neverwinter forest one nasty greenskin at a time....
Blaze sends his ascent and says, "If you need us we will be there brother...The small green ones owe the pack a debt. We shall claim it form their hides."
Over the last few days Kryinor has noticed a growing presence in his mind. He realises now that is the ind of Blaze. His presence is becoming clearer and stronger. Although no actual intelligible thoughts come through, the Wolfs moods are quite clear, and the occasional fussy thought can be discerned even when not using magic to aid communication. The bond seems to be getting stronger each time he bonds with the pack.
Nilsa listens carefully to you as you impart your intentions and instructions. as you fininsh she looks directly into your eyes and with a determined look says, "I will do as you say. I will make you proud Captain Titus."
You all gather at the towns edge in the lonely hours before dawn, the air is crisp and the sounds of the country side seem loud and eerie. Kryinor makes his goodbyes and moves off to join Ripper and his pack mates and begin their parallel journey to the edge of the Neverwinter wood.
Titus, Kargan, Eedim, and Breccha move out along the north road and make a good pace on the open way.
But mid mourn the second party reaches the intersection of the Phandalin road and the Triboar trail and strike off into the rough country toward the Wood and the hidden castle.
Kryinor's plan proves to be well executed, and he keeps up with his wolf brothers in two and four legged forms. By mid mourn the pack is well into the rough country between the Triboar Trail and the southern reaches of the wood.
Again both groups find ample evidence of green skin activity though no actual sightings. Night travel is not unknown and the cunning humanoids are good at staying hidden when they want to. The journey to the eaves of Neverwinter wood continues.
OOC: Can I get perception and survival rolls from everyone please :)
Morning gives way to afternoon and both groups make excellent progress. True to Titus' musing the two legged group sights the southern edge of the Nevewinter wood about a half strike after midday.
Kryinor and moves swiftly with the pack and is skirting the fringe of the wood at the same time. Blaze points out many good places to rest when the sun goes down. The greeskin activity now seems to be mostly evidence of movement to and from the north east. Blaze and his packmates sniff the trails and all agree..."Greenskins"...
About a mile from the edge of the wood a movement at the very edge of Kargan's peripheral vision confirms his suspicions of the last few hours...they are being followed...
I will then move off silently into the woods and finding a nice tall specimen climb up and then engaging eagle eye start looking back over our route to detect who and what has been following us.
The pack and I will regroup with the two legged party before dusk and i will tell them what we know.
"the pack and i have found a few good spots to rest for the night, we have also picked up on the green-skins trail, it leads into the forest bearing north east ."
OOC: how many of the wolf pack decided to join us on the hunt?
Titus fades into the brush and trees and climbs to a good spot to look out on the country side at the woods border.
For Titus: Eagle Eye details.
OOC: Eagle Eye in open country like this [where it is most useful] allows you to see out a few miles as if it were within your normal vision range with the naked eye. So in game mechanics you get no disadvantage on making perception checks out to about 5 miles, if the field of view is clear and you have a line of sight to what ever you are looking at. It won't let you see through stuff. It will also allow you, to if it can be seen, read text at a bout a miles distance. You then of course have to be able to read the language for it to make sense :)
Titus looks out across the brush strewn land and sees nothing that would indicate a pursuing party. Who ever they are they are good at remaining unseen.
i can’t see any followers, though I don’t doubt you kurgan. Perhaps we set a trap? Kurgan Eedim and Breecha could strike camp and head off north after I go back up to an observation post, kryinor could wait off to side with his friends. When our tail come through we surprise them.
Titus and Breccha hide and watch as Kargan and Eedim move of into the woods and set up camp.
The barbarian and Ranger do not have to wait long. The wind carries the quiet sounds of one practiced in stealth approaching. Moments later the small figure of a young halfing darts between some bushes in a straight line towards the dwarf and gnome setting up camp. Titus and Breccha recognise the youngster immediately.
Carp. Dressed in dull browns and faded greens with a haversack on a stick over one shoulder the boy makes his way through the brush with surprising skill a look of courageous determination on his face that is occasionally punctuated by a huge smile.
"Och, lots of grobbi activity ye say? I'm likin' the sound o' that, mae axe is good an' sharp!!"

Breccha listens intently but just nods.
He listens especially to the physical description of the land.
Eventually he speaks up. "Aye, I will come to find this castle with you., or indeed wherever you think I am most of help ".
Blaze sends his ascent and says, "If you need us we will be there brother...The small green ones owe the pack a debt. We shall claim it form their hides."
