Gathering at the secret forest entrance to their underground lair the companions parted with quiet good wishes and and prayers for luck and success.
Eedim nodding and heading back into the the heroes lair began work on concealing the Manor entrance and passage to the cells further in. "Nice and sekret, nice and comfy...for our new lodger..." he chuckled quietly.
Titus and Kryinor moved swiftly into the forest and were soon two more shadows flitting and dancing among the trees. The trail of the younglings was easy to spot for the Veteran ranger and woods wise druid, though as Titus noted proudly, harder than it had been on recent training excursions. Three tracks, one the sturdy boots of a Dwarf, and two smaller sets one barefoot, the other clad in supple leather headed west to the deep woods.
In no short time it was clear that he trio of prints marked a near straight path west through he woods and to the foothills of the Sword Mountains beyond.
Kargan, Breccha and Zaxx move back into Phandalin. Soldiers of Neverwitner patrolled the streets, mixing with their local counterparts.
The trek to the Townmasters house was short and had many places to seek cover and avoid curious and official eyes. The strangeness of the situation, having to hide in a town where they were known and friends and protectors, was not lost on the trio. At one point Zaxx managed to scare a local cat that ran off in a squall of hissing and disturbed refuse. The curios eyes that came to investigate fortunately were local and waved him on his way with a nod and a deliberate wink.
Quietly and quickly entrance to Westers house was made and, with a quick 'thunk' on the head from a meaty barbarian fist whilst held by tough dwarf hands and supple mage fingers, Townmaster Harbin was bound and gagged and slung over a heavily muscled shoulder.
No watching eyes found the trio and their captive on the journey back to the hideout, and soon Harbin Wester's unconscious form occupied one of the cells in the, until recently, deserted part of the old bandit strong hold.
OOC: Now Heroes...
...What will you do with your captive....
...Do you follow the trail of NIlsa, Carp, and their quarry into the foot hills this night?...
I throw a bucket of water over harbin to awaken him. When he is alert -
"Welcome to yer new abode Master Harbin, its better than ye deserve I wager! I hear ye seek to dishonor the good name of Gundren Rockseeker, telling all that he be a murderer! I know this to be a foul lie, we have the proof he cannae have done this crime, so tell me now all ye know of this matter, and pray I believe you speak true now, we dwarfs are not known for our patience in matters of honor!"
As dusk starts to fall "They cannot be too far ahead of us" He looks to his hand and whispers'druidae artis" (casting druidcraft to predict the weather for the next 24hrs)

don- forest stuff for titus.
You have a favored terrain type. Your proficiency bonus is doubled for proficient skills when you make an INT or WIS check related to it. While traveling for an hour or more in your chosen terrain, difficult terrain doesn’t slow your group’s travel, your group can’t become lost except by magical means, you remain alert to danger even when you are engaged in another activity, you can move stealthily at a normal pace (while alone), you find twice as much food while foraging, and while tracking creatures, you learn the exact number, sizes, and how long ago they passed through the area.
Harbin Wester wakes and splutters, cold water dripping from his hair into his eyes and beard. "Wha...wha, wha," Then he sees the look on Kargan's face the the other hardened adventurers gathered around him. He goes extremely pale.
"...oh GODS!...please don't hurt me..." he squeals, "I tell the truth! Please believe me. I saw Master Gundren go into Lord Sildars chamber and then heard yelling. Then there was shouting and fighting and Lord Sildar called for help form the watch."
Harbin looks at you all eyes wide with fear and hands shaking, "Then I saw smoke coming from the room and Master Gundren come running out and head into the street and towards the Alderleaf farm...I beg you I am telling the truth!"
Heading towards the foothills...
Titus and Kryinor head out from t he forest and into the low undulating and rocky edges of the hills at the base of the Sword Mountains. The trail made by their three friends is clear and easy to follow. In no short time they find the unconscious form of Carp lying amongst some boulders blood seeping slowly from a cut on his forehead.
Signs of a fight are plain all around and the two remaining sets continue to the west deeper in to the stony hills. Intermittent drops of blood accompanying them...
"Hurt ye? Nay, I may just remove yer heed from yer shoulders but! So now ye say ye dinnae see what passed in Sildar's room? No doubt ye hid, rather than run to give aid when Sildar called, ye coward." "Tell me more o' this smoke coming from the room, how did that come to be, what caused it? Speak what ye know worm!!"
does he need healing Or will he come round? We can’t leave him here he will have to come with us. We need him alert a able, he’s done well to get here. I’ll use a potion if needed, we can’t dally.
Breccha stretches his fingers and looks threateningly at their captive. :"Hmmmm... I knew there was deceit in what we were told. Why have the guard fallen for this? Why have you gone along with it?" he asks the Wester with no attempt to disguise his building anger.
The Townmaster's face goes from white to green and he chokes on some bile. He looks as if he may faint from fear. He looks up at Kargan and Breccha clearly scared out of his wits.
"I saw Gundren go in and Gundren come out. I ...! heard them yelling and then...a scuffle and then the fire. I told Beddamere and his guards the same. Please don't kill me!" he draws a ragged breath and with a shaking hand covers his eyes and wipes his sweating brow. "I do not know what caused the fire, only that I heard the sound of a lamp breaking against the wall or floor...I know aught else."
In the foothills...
Titus and Kryinor tend to young Carp, the halfling boy stirs briefly and moans, "Nilsa...come back...come back Nilsa...". He seems very weak. Both adventurers judge that he would not have survived till morning if left all alone like this.
Then in the darkness strange jarring screeches ring out in the hills around them to the west, shortly followed by more in a valley to the south.
"Ach, ye know more and will tell all, i'll no rest till I wring all from ye!! What happened after Gundren left? What did ye see an' hear? Who else came to Sildar's chamber?"
Harbin Wester looks pleadingly at Zaxx, "Good master Wizard, please, please...I know aught else!" He breaks and begins openly weeping. "Tis true I am a coward, I hid, then ran after Gundren left, I ran and hid in my house and the Lord's soldiers had to break my door down and drag me out."
Wester wailed for a few moments more and then drew a ragged breath, "I have told all Iknow, The Lord knows no more than you, you can beat me as the soldiers did, but I have no more to tell."
The Townmaster finished speaking and continued to weep quietly, his body shaking.
In the foothills...
OOC: Yes you are still in the range of the forest so Titus' skills still benefit him.
Carp wakes with a start eyes wide and arms and legs scrabbling at the dry earth. "Watch out!" he screams and begins to fight against Tutus's efforts to carry him. Then he regains his sense and relaxes somewhat.
"Captain Tutis, Master Kryinor, Thank the gods I am saved!"A few short breaths and then, "Nilsa, we have to save Nilsa, she winged the devil and it ran off. She followed but I fear that thing will be too much for her..."
The trail of Nilsa and Gundren, made easy to follow by the spilled blood, now became somewhat confusing as Gundren's tracks seemed to change subtlety. Changing at times in length and size, and as time wore on, in shape!
The screeching in the surrounding hills grew louder and nearer. Soon both Druid and Ranger could see dark forms trotting at speed in the hills behind them.
Kryinor recognized them, they were the same feathered beasts that fought with the great Worg in his last battle in the hills around Phandalin...
"Pah, now I believe ye have told all worm, such cowardice turns mae stomach!! Ye could o' saved Sildar's life, or seen what passed in that chamber, but ye ran an' hid to save yer worthless hide. By the Great Wheel ye have much to pay for, lucky for ye we are pressed for time, so this cell will be yer punishment till we return!"
I leave him some candles, water and food, and block up the entrance to the cells to conceal it.
"We cannae do more here lads, lets be away on the trail of Gundren and our fellows!"

"We must move now!"
Titus pulls a potion from the side pouch on his pack, un-stoppers it and pours down Carp's throat.
"Here now boy, you've done very well son, I'm proud of you. Drink now, we've got much more to do."
Titus then picks up Carp and slings him over his back "Hold on"
He then heads off in the direction of the blood trail at best speed
"Come wolf master! We must find them soon or I fear it will be too late!"
Don are we still in forrest terrain? if so Titus gets his bonuses for favoured terrain and tracking bonus to surprise etc etc

"Good Kargan, I feel the townmaster has told us everything he knows. Perhaps we should go. We have ... other matters to attend to."
"Ach, ye know naught o' honor wizard, yer as clueless as an elf wi' a hammer!! I'll have the truth from this worm, an' restore Gundren's good name."
"Speak now, say again all ye saw an' heard, I believe ye have more t' tell yet!!"
Kryinor shakes off his indecision and follows after Titus. "Yes, right!" Kryinor follows behind Titus.
