Nim recalls the coloured gems his lust for treasure forced him to pocket unseen earlier and starts to take notice of the pouch and ring Taryssa is inspecting. (When the party decides to) he spends his rest plucking a calming and melodic tune in the key of C to soothe the group.
(OOC: Everyone that expands a hit due to heal during this rest can add an additional 1d6 to their healing.)
And whilst playing Nim keeps a close eye on Taryssa and tries to see if he can make any connection between the items she’s studying and his gems. (OOC: Investigation 4…)
The poor undead's ring is in a truly pitiful state, ruined by time and practically completely oxidized. No details of any kind about the object are discernible.
The Component Pouch on the other hand is in excellent condition, perhaps because it fell in a corner, on a clean and dry stone slab... rather than being carried around for who knows how long by an undead creature. The shape is one that is no longer in vogue today, so it must have been lost a long time ago, perhaps by the original patrons of this place. Inside are a lot of those weird but cheap spell casting components. Even in this case, however, no clues emerge that connect it in any way to this place... except for the fact that there is a good chance that someone lost it here.
And in fact not even Nim can hypothesize any connection between these objects and the gems that he is 'kindly guarding' for everyone's benefit.
(OOC: OK, so are you resting here. It can be done; but do you want to take a short rest or a long one? And do you plan to organize shifts to keep watch? Or are you feeling lucky?)
Tarysaa smiles as she inspects the contents of the Component Pouch. Keeps that which might still be useable and discarding that which is obviously 'past salvaging', she rearranges the bits inside and adds those items she had been given or purchased since leaving the University.
Finally done with her 'housekeeping', she turns to her companions. "Short or long rest? Being healed and rested for our second... third? attempt at exploring would be wise. How are we all on spell casting? Would a long rest be the best choice? If a long rest, I would prefer we secure and camp in the throne room, but, I am open to suggestions."
The large wolf pads into the room with Barakor following behind. It's form soon shrinks back down and the dwarf is standing in its place.
"I think a longer nap would be good. After I rest, I could maybe prepare some magic tricks that might be more useful down here," Daisy comments. "I think the throne room would make a good place. Elky was coming up here to bring some food, I thought." She glances around for the strange servant. "Do we need to get him up here again? Maybe he can find you some ale, Clas?"
Ardana takes a seat ready for a rest. A short rest is enough for her. (OOC: she still has 2 spell slots left, plus other abilities, I'll roll for a hit die now).
"I just need a bit of a breather, it is still midday, we can have a meal and a rest and try again to solve the mystery in the afternoon?"
Is the alarm still going off? If we are going to long rest, Ardana will divine sense the stairwell room and the throne room. If we short rest, she'll hold onto those.
With a hearty laugh that rings through the corridor, Clas drops his backpack and settles down on the ground. As he sits, he begins to pull out the pieces of the broken door he had taken earlier, his hands deftly turning them over. With focused intent, he reads them.
His hazel eyes occasionally flicker towards and hold onto his companions, with an amused glint. With a grin, he shifts his attention back to small pieces of wood, making mental notes about each of them.
Clas's thoughts wander to various subjects that seem to fuel his jovial energy. Ale, his trusty longsword, comes to mind, accompanied by the image of his cherished shield, Barrel and barrels in general. And then, with a chuckle, his thoughts drift to Nim's halfling sister, whom he knows nothing about yet. His mind muses.

Never underestimate the power of a finely crafted barrel, my friend! It is both a vessel of strength and a symbol of resilience.
Tarysaa sits with her back against a wall, sipping water as she looks over her spellbook. 'That one was useless. Maybe if I try this one... ' *sighs as she wishes for a full trance, long rest* Settling in place, she is soon deep into her spellbook reading which actually relaxes her almost as much as her trances.

The alarm was going off in Level 2, because it was the bass-relief that was repeating the message. In level 1, no bass-relief - and no message. To discover if it is still going off in Level 2, one should go checking down...
With his characteristic laughter bubbling forth, Clas addresses Ardana with a twinkle in his eyes. "Ah, Ardana, it seems we've got ourselves a merry chase still, complete with a fiery finish! Hahahaha!"
He offers a genial smile. "Here's the plan, if you're game," he continues, "You lead our fiery friend through the room, and I'll be right behind it, ready to seal the deal." His gaze locks onto hers. With confidence, he completes the strategy. "Once it's in the room, I'll close the door behind it, and you can secure the exit at the far end. How does that sound?"

Is the stairway so long that we can't hear noise emanating from the bottom standing at the top?
Hmmm, good point, on second tought, the noise should also partially reach up, carried by the echo of the spiral staircase. If so, Ardana listens… and no, it seems that the message is not being repeated anymore.
Nim’s exhaustion has gotten the better of him and during the rest he nodded off and fell asleep sat sprawled over the throne cuddling his lute and snoring deeply. If his companions decide to get up after an hour or so instead of resting for longer he still remains well past the REM stage of sleep on the throne.
Tarysaa looks up from her spellbook after what she deems an hour. All are resting or outright snoring. 'Perhaps a bit longer...' Another hour passes and she finally decides it is time to attempt another go downstairs. Using Prestidigitation, she fills the room with the smell of a field of flowers and the sound of musical wind chimes as she watches each rouse from slumber.
(( I am not certain what 2 'short rests' can do but I HOPE it lets everyone heal a little more... ))
(OOC: Well... completing one short rest is enough to heal yourself by spending HD, if you like. So, not many reasons to take two consecutive short rests... unless you are role-playing an exceptionally tired character or you want to exploit the rules in some way - like waking up Class after he finishes a first short rest, have him use his Second Wind to heal himself, then taking a second short rest to have Second Wind back. But that's a corner case; usually, there is no big benefit in taking two consecutive short rests)
Considering we are on something of a time table, I'd rather not assume more time has passed due to inactivity.
I've been waiting for Ardana to reply to Clas' proposed plan.
Daisy, who had been spending the breather sitting in the corner and stroking Barakor, gathers her belongings and hauls herself up to her feet with her staff with a bit of a grunt.
"So, do we need finish seeing what's in that first hallway?" The dwarf makes for the secret corridor to the stairs below. "Hopefully, Clas was right and those undead creatures are what was guarding that area."

(OOC: can't get the short rest to work, ardana has 17-13 = 4 hp, short rest should be 1d10 + 1 + 1d6, rolling here)
only 5 hp to 9, will spend the second hit die.

So the party tries to get a breather and...
??? 11 15 ???
...And all well, nothing noteworthy happens. An hour later, your short rest is completed.
