The vine sprouting from the wall next to Kitryn lashes out again, puncturing the goblin in the neck with its thorns. The Goblin is looking very rough. The goblin behind swings its sword at the vine.
Leek launches another stone with his sling. The goblin, mid yell as it draws back from it's successful hit on Kitryn, gets hit by the stone in the back of it's throat. It chokes, falls to it's knees and topples over, struggling to get a breath.
At this moment, a large goblin, but still clearly a goblin, moves into view of Kitryn and the others. He is effectively carrying a bound and beaten human. The human's face is one big swollen mess and the doublet is covered in blood stains. The human's ankles are bound as well as his legs above the knees. Both of these bindings are tied together with the wrists, behind his back. Without Yeemik holding him, the human would topple forward and fall down the ten foot drop.
In a loud commanding voice, the goblin commands in almost decent common, "Truce! Bargain for hostage." The other goblins are holding their attacks, heads swiveling back and forth from the party members to the larger goblin, waiting.
OOC: Initiative is on hold, you may all speak out of turn if you wish. Any aggressive action requires initiative to continue, so Erenaeth and Rindelk would have to go first. I'm out of town and won't be posting again until Sunday. You may all figure out what you want to do or say until then.
OOC: Sounds more like a bluff, so a Deception check. If you want to intimidate, you'd have to say something like, "Release that human, or we'll kill you slow." You can change what you say if you want. Not set in stone yet, as you're asking questions.
You are sure you've never seen this human. (If you read back in the thread, you never saw Gundren's colleage.)
Can we (or more specifically me) get better info on the layout? Is the ten foot drop a cliff or is it a hole? If it is a hole (like the one I tried to climb) can I use my Minor Illusion cantrip to make an illusion that the hole closes up? How far is the gobin and human from us? (Not sure who they are on the map.)
The large goblin is holding the human hostage on the precipice of a 10 foot "cliff". It's a shear wall, not a hole. The way the human is tied up, the landing would not be pleasant.
The large goblin is 30 ft from your current position. (Large goblin is at E8. You're at i2).
No one in the group has any ability that would allow them to see into or through a Fog Cloud. The area around the fog cloud is considered "Heavily Obscured" and the rules state that if you try to "see" anyone in or across a fog cloud, then you essentially have the "blinded" condition when you do so.
The goblins would not be able to see into or through the cloud either.
Insight is a skill you use to try and determine if a creature that you can understand, is being truthful or not.
If you go to your character sheet and click on the skill, you'll get a pane with the description of the skill. For example, Insight:
Your Wisdom (Insight) check decides whether you can determine the true intentions of a creature, such as when searching out a lie or predicting someone’s next move. Doing so involves gleaning clues from body language, speech habits, and changes in mannerisms.
Persuasion is well, trying to convince a creature that can understand you to do something. For example, you offer to pay the goblin a couple gold coins to leave the human prisoner alive and leave the caves with the rest of the goblins. You'd then roll a persuasion to see if the goblin goes for it.
FYI, description for Persuasion:
When you attempt to influence someone or a group of people with tact, social graces, or good nature, the GM might ask you to make a Charisma (Persuasion) check. Typically, you use persuasion when acting in good faith, to foster friendships, make cordial requests, or exhibit proper etiquette. Examples of persuading others include convincing a chamberlain to let your party see the king, negotiating peace between warring tribes, or inspiring a crowd of townsfolk.
If you safely, gently lay down the hostage we would be willing to let you out of this cave - alive. We just defeated Klarg and his minions. We are more than capable of defeating you. The only way you're leaving this place is if you accept my offer.

Leek, pressed in by his own allies and unable to see around Kitryn, falters as he can't decide what to do.
Further in the chamber, a cry of pain can be heard.
OOC: Kitryn's turn.
What's going on? I can't see a thing!!!
Perception roll to see if I recognize if the cry of pain is human or animal. 9

You can't tell, it's too far and there's too much goblin noise to be sure.
The goblin in front of Kitryn deftly blocks both her attacks with its shield and then counter attacks:
Attack: 22 Damage: 4
OOC: Katerielle's turn.
Katerielle casts Thorn Whip again.
Attack: 24 Damage: 4
The vine sprouting from the wall next to Kitryn lashes out again, puncturing the goblin in the neck with its thorns. The Goblin is looking very rough. The goblin behind swings its sword at the vine.
OOC: Erenaeth, Leek and Rindelk can act.
Leek will move up to H3 and sling the nearest goblin, then move back.
Attack: 22 Damage: 4

I want to ask the group if anyone can see through fog.

I would like to engage the gob in conversation and try to persuade it to give us the hostage.
Awesome. What do you say to the Goblin? Think of his background and personality. The traits you chose for him. What would he say, how would he say it?
If you safely, gently lay down the hostage we would be willing to let you out of this cave - alive. We just defeated Klarg and his minions. We are more than capable of defeating you. The only way you're leaving this place is if you accept my offer.
