In the southeast corner, Kimberley opens the double door, which is sheathed in tarnished copper plate. Thick dust covers the flagstones of a somber, unoccupied hallway beyond. The walls are decorated with faux columns every ten feet.
In the crypts, Aros opens a second sarcophagus. It contains nothing but moldering bones, scraps of clothing, and a foul smell.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Bryony follows Kimberley and watches as she opens the double doors. A long corridor lies before them. Surely the leader must've escaped this way. There was nowhere else for him to go. The rogue glances at the columns lining the passageway and for a brief moment wonders if they could be trapped. She studies them intently while standing in the doorway, not wanting to get too close.
Syzygy has also trailed behind Kimberly, he goes to charge forward toward the door to the east but sees Byrony checking for traps. “Shouldn’t the dust be upturned?” He attempts to look for footprints, some kind of trail that he could possibly, safely follow.
"Yeah, you would think," Bryony says. "Doesn't look like anyone came this way. I can't tell if there are traps. Probably not but you never know with old, dusty places like this."
The halfling will walk tentatively toward one of the faux columns, prepared to dodge out of the way if it decides to spit fire at her or something else equally alarming.
Bryony squints at one of the fake column from afar, but sees nothing unusual about it. It is old, and stained, and probably built centuries ago when this place was first built.
Syzygy stops short and examines the dust on the ground. Something evidently recently came through and tried to brush the dust back over their footsteps. They did a sloppy job of it, although it almost worked. The brush marks seem to lead toward the first column that Bryony is now approaching, and then along the north wall. You can't tell what kind of feet, nor of their number, as that information has been intentionally obliterated.
" Did he go this way? 'ware the middle of the room! Or was that another room? I don't recall...", Kimberley said hurriedly eager to be in pursuit, she felt her blood quicken..the chase was on...
Jurgen nails the stone column, cracking it, and spraying stone across the room. Nothing much else happens.
But then Syzygy, still examining the floor as Jurgen sprays debris across it, notices a thin crack running parallel to the north wall by just a few inches, about ten feet in length, extending between the first and the second column. It appears that the brushed-over trail keeps to the narrow northern ledge across that ten-foot span, before running diagonally across the next stretch of hallway, and around the corner to the south.
(Anyone who wants to try to follow the trail along the ledge should try and succeed on a DC 10 Dexterity (Acrobatics) check.)
Quinn, Bryony, and Aros follow the brushed path, which gets even sloppier on the far side. Bryony nearly loses her balance, but recovers. Syzygy sees a short corridor ending in an open door leading into another stone chamber. It has steps leading up to small landings, and then up again.
Then Quinn loses his balance. Wham! The floor collapses, revealing a 20-foot pit. Only Kimberley's lightning-fast reflexes save Quinn from tumbling to the bottom. He clambers back up the edge to safety.
Quinn takes note of some of the fancy weaponry, but resists the urge and runs back towards the crypt to support the party.
He whispers in hushed tones "Nuthin' but a bunch of weapons in that other room. They musta ran this way."
