Our intrepid hero's, ignoring the voluminous chest and it's copious amounts of treasure residing inside, head for the depths below. Brave, Brave Sir Robin Chadwick leads us below using a blindman's technique of "clearing the path", a very cunning method and has been quite effective (i think...). The stairs present a poor foe and are navigated expertly by Sir Chadwick the Bold.
Upon reaching the bottom, our Hero's encounter a foul and morbid sight, a massive pile of humaniod remains heaped into the center of a large room. Kragen steels himself and using this odd cloak he has acquired, attempts to circumvent the pile of refuse by navigating the wall for a better look at what lies ahead. As he transitions to the wall, he notices it is covered, as is everything here, in some odd semi-hard material?? he is able to navigate the wall expertly, seeing a hallway to the North, as he does, he is rudely accosted by some Bird like Worm creature, as it breaches the massive pile of humaniod refuse. Additionally, undead constructs (from the humaniod remains) encased in armor made of the coating all over the room appeared from the walls and seemingly assisted this Bird-like worm! The Company was able to dispatch this refuse worm and the undead constructs, sending them back to the Abyssal hell!
Upon vanquishing those foes, The Company encountered a series of rooms that were adjacent to the bottomless pits that were associated with rooms on the upper level. Avoiding the bottomless pits, The Company explored a series of hallways to the south with Evil skull thingys with red eyes in each corridor. Sir Chadwick the Bold quickly found out that their piercing gaze held more than just uncomfortable silence! Fleeing their evil countenance, the intrepid Company decided to reconnoiter both of the Pits. The other side of one pit had a nasty Skull with glowing eyes, once Kragen attempted to assail the room, he was rebuffed, almost ending in an endless fall through one of the pits.
You all stand around the fountain of refreshing, clear water. Yartol looks around, “So, where to next? Seems we need a couple more of those arrow things.”
Consider where to go next, I think we have at least 3 locations that seem dangerous and also candidates for housing arrows
A- The acid shower nearby. There is a door to the west in that room
B- the cells between “murder hole” room and the chest stairs room to the south. The device in here was perhaps some puzzle or controls for torture of prisoners in the cells.
C- running a gauntlet of magic missiles in the level below
Starker:”I must insist that we take advantage of our having decrypted the plaque! Why in heavens name shouldn’t we at least? I understand if no one else is convinced, and I am willing to be alone in the room when I turn the wheels provided my strength suffices. I would propose setting the wheels to achieve the effects denoted by the open circles. The rest of you can take shelter where you wish.”

> < <(two empty circles)
”Please, if you feel I am being illogical present your arguments.”
Sorry all, will work to finish up The Chornicles of Kragen later today. This would help Don with some activity and clues on what we have discovered to date.

Any other locations we should return to check?
"To your point Master Trokarl, we have 3 of the 5 items that fit in the Device at the start of the 1st level. We believe we have one of them in the right location, or so it seems. We need to recover the remaining 2 that we do not have."
"The Mage Starkers point, we have a supposed clue in the Ivory Plaque to the combination, if we can decode. That may be our most direct way of searching areas which remain unexplored."
"We need to find some protection against the Piercing Gaze of those skulls to get past them. If we have a way, we can approach that area."
"The shiny Rubix Cube seems our least obvious path at this point, no clues on how to configure. maybe the other areas will expose some clues?"
Turns to Starker "Mage Starker, i support you in this puzzle. If you have it deciphered, i will ensure you will are able to walk away from the endeavor!" Smiles
Starker:”I don’t know if it is courage, exactly. More an insatiable curiousity and a delight in experiment. But regardless of what we call it I am willing.”
”As to the other odd puzzle, I forgot if we had vocalized the obvious references to arrow materials that will allow us to place the correct arrows in the correct locations. I wasn’t quite myself when we examined and discussed it, having been distracted by a simple and yet elegant proof of the nonexistence of integer power law versions of Flincon’s theorem above two. <mutters ‘I should really write that down someday’>”
The Chronicles of Kragen - the Pedestal above and more damn Golem's
After vanquishing the Flesh Golem and it's nasty lightning undead and Sir Chadwick the Bold fleeing from the Piercing gaze of the wall skulls. Our intrepid hero's attempted to circumvent the pits and access areas unaccessable. I attempted to approach the huge menacing skull room with glowing eyes however was unceremoniously rebuffed by some unseen force. Not wanting the experience of dying of hunger in a endless freefall, i turned to scaling the large pit in which we threw the broken body of the Flesh Golem.
I head up, as The Company determined that one of the main entry points into the Lich's layer was above. Upon reaching the top, i spied with my eagle eyes, a pedestal with a 5 star indention that appeared to be of similar shape of the arrow head artifacts we have discovered. On the opposite side of the room, there was a door with outcrop that someone could stand upon. Once back with the group, we decided to investigate the Pedestal on the upper level.
Once there, we identified some markings (previously posted 9260 & 9261) which lead us to believe that the arrow shaped artifacts indeed belonged in the pedestal. We placed the Silver arrow in the slot with Three wavy lines and it fit perfectly (The beast recoils from the moon’s pale bite. Three Wavy Lines). Before we tried to decipher the remaining, we knew we had to find the remaining 2 Arrow shaped artifacts.
Which lead us to investigating the sand room with copious Urns on the floor. In which we were accosted by a Sand Golem that was in a very nasty mood. The Company, after some time was able to dispatch this foe. In it's wake, it left many body parts, most importantly the Mummy's heart. Mage Starker expertly turned the heart to ash, not wanting a repeat of an encounter with The Mummy.
The battered and bruised Company, made it's way back to the Fountain of Life, intent on drinking from it's vibrant and refreshing waters. Here we stand, refreshed and with fresh inspiration provided by Father Kragen.
Starker waits for the rest of The Company to find a place to stand where they feel safe, says “Please listen carefully as the effect may occur at a distance.” Sends Cyrus to stand behind Sir Chadwick; and then turns wheels
Starker approaches the wheels set into the wall. He begins turning them, activating mechanisms behind the walls with odd clunks, rattles and clinks. He turns each of the three wheels as described. When he finishes turning the final wheel there is a CLICK heard from the doors beyond the iron bars.
Following the CLICK heard from the doors there is a rattling, clanking and clunking heard from the mechanisms for a moment. Then silence.

What does the other pit hold??
You all stand around the fountain of refreshing, clear water. Yartol looks around, “So, where to next? Seems we need a couple more of those arrow things.”
Starker:”Two of the combinations for the wheels were shown as producing arrows, one up, one down, but that is likely just a coincidence.”
We do need a couple more arrows…

"Let us head to the turny wheel puzzle and allow Mage Starker to find the right sequence of events to unlock the unknown."
Heads to the corridor with the 3 turny wheels.
