“Unless there is anything of interest in this room, I suggest we continue. I can purify this rancid brew once we have cleared it of other dangerous evil.”
Kragen looks to the group as he approaches the door.
”prepare yourselves, I intend to see what is beyond this door.”
pauses to allow his compatriots to assemble as they wish. Expecting Starker to quickly exit the room.
Chadwick quickly reaches out and gently grabs Kragen's shoulder.
"Perhaps friend it is better for you to remain back and I'll open it. Your healing powers are much stronger than mine, and I think we would all prefer for you to remain whole and unmelted. Let's check for mechanical traps and if clear I'll go through."
Assuming Kragen doesn't argue Chadwick will wait for one other person to check for traps, then open the door.
The door opens into another, small round chamber. Two burning furnaces with bubbling cauldrons atop them dominate the room. There are bins of what appears to be rotten grains on each side as well as barrels and casks with open tops revealing foul water. The stench here is overpowering. Wall sconces give off dim light to illuminate the room. Standing at the end of the short hall entering the room is a creature made of warped barrel staves with bubbling liquid seen between the gaps. Iron taps and leaking hoses constantly emit gurgling and pressure releasing hisses. It is like a living brewery about to explode. Faintly glowing sigils and glyphs can be seen on the surface of its body, pulsing faintly. The hallway continues ahead from across the room and makes a left turn. Flickering light can be seen from the left at the end of that hall.
When Chadwick opens the door, the revealed construct collapses itself into the form of a large barrel and Barrel-Rolls ahead 20'. It moves through the spaces of Chadwick and Hoid. DC 14 STR checks for each, Chadwick = 13 and Hoid = 23. Chadwick takes 7 bludgeoning damage and is knocked Prone. Hoid withstands the attack and remains standing and undamaged. The construct dramatically regains its feet behind Hoid and attacks.
Initiatives rolled. Xymox and Starker can act at the end of round 1. They will both roll initiative at the start of round 2.
Chadwick has Advantage on his first attack this round of combat. Then the Motivational Speech will no longer affect him.
Trolkarl pouring a bit of water from skin onto the scabbard of Darkbane to rid the stench of the previous room. I am certain this town will have a new mayor before I will get this putrid scent from everything. Burning it all and procuring new attaire is the only option now. Even if Gumby were with us, I would feel guilty to ask him to try and salvage... What the....
Then the sudden appearance of the transformer-beer-barrel-onstruct and commontion of Chadwick being knocked over causes him to drop the skin and draw Darkbane. Never a dull moment in Monsterdrink
Well, I never had the chance to engage and neither did this entity. I find the AoO rather stupidly defined within D&D, it’s not even fantastical that an entity could gain an additional attack on something they aren’t even actively attacking!!
regardless. Kragen, hearing Chadwick communicate his instructions, disengages and moves to provide an opening.
To hit: 27 (natural 20 +7) , will spend a spell slot for an eldritch smite. Damage: 9 radiant + 21 force=30 plus prone condition
To hit: (24, 15) advantage from prone Damage: 7 radiant
37 damage, prone, Sap. If you hit a creature with a Longsword, that creature has Disadvantage on its next attack roll before the start of your next turn.
Should Chadwick have gotten an AoO when the construct moved in to attack? I'm going forward with assuming the DM ruling will follow the legal precedence of "Too bad, so sad".
Move - Stand up, and move up in square that Kragen was in. BA-Cast Hunter's Mark Attack 1 (advantage) 16: If he hits he'll use Storm's bite to do an additional 1d6 17 = 9+6+2
Attack 2 (advantage) 18 14=10+4
31 total (if he missed with the first one the 2 points of storm damage could be added to second attack)
No, to the AoO. It was on the other side of the door.
Both attacks hit.for 31 damage.
The Fermentation Golem stands and attacks Chadwick. To hit = 10. Missing.
Spirits of the Brew rise from the vat beside Chadwick and their spectral limbs grapple him. DC15 STR check to avoid/escape = 12. Chadwick is grappled.
A second Fermentation Golem enters the room through the door. It closes on you and attacks Hoid, to hit = 15. Missing. It then moves, giving Hoid an AoO if so chooses. Chadwick grappled, so no AoO for him.

Starker hies himself away to the other room in the middle of the order.

Investigation 16
Kragen nods to Chadwick
”understood, my friend. I do significantly incrwase our chances of survival if I am alive and able. Please, lead on!”
moves away and gestures Chadwick to the door.
Chadwick finds no traps on or about the door.

Never a dull moment in Monsterdrink
Would Chadwick be able to use his athletics proficiency to help him withstand the barrel's attack?
When it hits turn to act, and assuming folks remain in same location, would he be able to attack from the purple X?
The attack is defined as a STR check to avoid damage/prone. So, no on the Athletics skill.
Chadwick can attack from the X position as long as no one is between him and the target.
Kragen grabs his holy water and mutters a quick prayer showering himself, Hoid and Trolkarl.
bless L1 - dropping detective magic
then disengages and moves east towards the wall, then steps on the wall, now parallel with the floor, 5’ up.
Disengage and [action]Magic[/spell] each take an action. You can only do one with your move.
So, Kragen can cast a spell but provoke a reaction by the golem. Or, can Disengage to avoid the reaction but not cast the spell.
Trolkarl to act
Trolkarl will attack with Darkbane:
37 damage, prone, Sap. If you hit a creature with a Longsword, that creature has Disadvantage on its next attack roll before the start of your next turn.
Trolkarl savages the construct, trying to join the one-shot club with Hoid and Chadwick.
Hoid to act
Hoid attacks the construct with advantage using his maul
to hit (16, 7) +7, 23 total
damage rerolled for savage attacks 14 total (rolled 4,2; 2 becomes 3–other roll was lower) plus 7 for heavy weapon.
to hit (2,6)+7, 13 total
Damage 19 total (rolled 6,6) plus 7 for heavy weapon.
First attack hits, for reduced damage. Your maul does not seem as effective as Darkbane.
Chadwick to act. Currently prone.
