Plan part 2. In the southwest on the map, can anyone climb those trees and get onto the elevated level, crawl over near the edge and scout? That might be a good spot to snipe. If someone could haul little Erbert up, perhaps he could scuttle along eastward and cast some illusions down in the inner portion, draw them out, create a distraction. Everybody descends, grab Cleggy and run for the exit.
I agree, too many for a regular frontal assault.

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.

If we could produce a diversion, that may be our best route. After multiple comments it sound as if there is a larger force here. How do we draw them out allowing a limited party to free Cleggor? I can do minor wonders like throw voices, create thunder, make the ground shake, etc. maybe pair that with Erberts abilities and we could create something rather realistic?
((I think that Bronk wanted us to dress up as goblins as a distraction, but Erbert isn’t wild about the idea, he doesn’t really think he could pull that off at all…..))

From post 1161: “if you keep moving you will be at the ‘Cloak Human’ camp at ‘dark sky.’"
The party is still well away from the enemy camp. We know nothing other than what Bronk tried to tell us. We have been given a map (two in fact) but we have zero first hand information. To the extent any of the information was accurate, it could be out of date. There could a dragon there now for all we know
In my opinion, the only information we can trust is geography and permanent structures. We need up to date information.
If we decide to Leroy Jenkins instead, Hoid will likely make a “business decision” and hang back to play the role of Legolas in this encounter.
Bran nods to Hoid’s input. “I agree that more information would be good to obtain if we can. How much are we sure is accurate, or truthful from…,” he nods his head towards Bronk. Bronk seems to catch on that he is being talked about and has an expression that you see as not liking it. Bran continues, “But, if you trust it, give it this short bow and arrows. No blade. I will keep him at my side and we can serve as cover fire for you.” He turns to look at Bronk and puts his hand on the scimitar hilt, “If it gets squirrelly I can put a stop to that quickly.” Bronk’s demeanor changes to one of a bit of fear.

Agree, let’s move in and do some investigation when we get closer.
Concur that better info is needed. If Gary Gnu is spotted we need to plan what our next course of action will be. They have horses so we won't be able to out run them. Even if everyone doesn't have a horse the riders will be able to harry us until the others arrive. At that point we've lost the high ground and we know how will that worked out for Anakin.
Speaking of burning people, what was everyone's thought on the raining fire plan? I feel like it causes a major distraction and if we do it at night while the troops are sleeping we should inflict some good AoE damage.
Bronk leads on towards the camp. The sun sets and low gray clouds fill the sky. Selune is quarter phase right now, but no light makes it through the clouds. The night is dark.
You notice Bronk stopping briefly at a bush and collecting red berries. He continues walking and crushes the berries between thumb and forefinger. The pulp he then smears around his eyes.
Trolkarl, quickly drops to a knee. Puts a finger to his lips and looks to ensure he has everyone's attention. Pointing to the north and looking back to Bronk. Not sure if I should roll stealth or if GM does in this situation. But trying to usher everyone including Bronk with my hand signals pointing to the west. Wisphers to Hoid then quietly moves down the line trying to quickly pass the word
Get on the west side of this tree line. Goblin patrol with a hobgoblin. Heading south east. We either let them pass or ensure there are no runners.
Should we ambush? I would also recommend using fire, should we be able to infiltrate their camp.
Do we know how far away from the camp we were/are?
From the description of the evening if Bran and Chadwick are moving with the group then we're going to need a lightsource and that's going to give us away. At this point I'm assuming we're committed, so maybe Chadwick lights up his lantern and starts running away then the rest of you can ambush when they run past? We might also be able to use mage hand, but that lacks the Leroy Jenkins flare.
Figure we can try and lure them to the X while the party hides in the big bush/trees.

I can cast Scared Flame at will however I do not think it actually lights shit on fire. I believe it embues the recipient with Tyrs list for Justice!! Some can’t take the heat! 🤣
We are probably very close to the camp because Bronk said we would arrive at dark and a patrol wouldn’t be too far away.
We cannot be sure that the patrol will chase someone. We are better off dictating actions than hoping for a desirable reaction. My preference is to engage decisively while we have advantage. This is an opportunity to engage (and eliminate) a limited number instead of the entire camp.
Also, a patrol of this size implies a substantially larger force at the camp
If we want a reaction, I would prefer an illusion to separating a party member. Perhaps an illusion of someone sleeping between trees. Something that would draw interest, not raise alarm.
I suggest we keep the trees/bushes with the pink Xs between the party and the patrol. As the patrol gets closer to the black X, we use the trees/bushes as cover for a charge to surprise the patrol. Preferably that provides advantage (the game mechanic) and we can focus on the hobgoblin and AOE (sleep or fire to take out a group of goblins quickly).
Ok, agreeing somewhat with Hoid however with a slight variation. Have 2 parties, one melee and one ranged attack. Allow the scouting party to pass by the red marked tree, melee party to the X or forward blue dot and ranged party at the rear blue dot. Forcing the party to cover 2 flanks.

Map now on Owlbear. Not sure what the malfunction with DnDBeyond Maps has been today.
Thank you sir
Ideas? Plans? Predictions?

melee party: Chadwick, Hoid, gneuman
ranged party: trolkal, Erbert, bran, Bronk, kragen
thoughts?
Sounds like a plan to me.
So, ranged group follows red arrows, led by Trolkarl keeping eyes on the goblins? Melee group heads wide to the right to intercept goblins head on?
Hilarity ensues?
