I buffed his HP by 10, dropped his AC to 12 for being unarmored, and made his Intelligence 12 for spellcasting because I wanted him to be an area boss, but I still didn't think you could burst him down in 1 round with 3 people. Like the troll, I'm not playing him exactly out of the rule book, because it would conflict with the story I wanted to tell. I mentioned the staff next to his sword, but yes it was a subtle warning. The more important question is, why is a 1st level spell caster with a name like "Trollbreaker" serving a lowly band of highwaymen?
I'm not sure why Waffles stopped playing. I've been in contact with ZeldaLover over discord and they seem to know where to find the game but aren't posting. I'm still hoping we can get back up to 4 players, but if this keeps up we may have to call the campaign unless you guys are okay doing a duo against reduced threat fights.
That said... I looked back through the thread and noticed Gorelaw's spellcasting DC was 10 + prof bonus + Int modifier, rather than 8 + prof bonus + Int modifier. I guess it doesn't change anything, but still, sorry.
Harek will pursue Gorelaw, trying to take him out before he can get to reinforcements. Going to use Action surge for double attack/movement and going to position myself in his path deeper into the cave so he can't retreat.
Attack1: 11 Damage:9 Attack2: 9 Damage:6
Well that is underwhelming. Did I manage to drag our goblin guide along?
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Gorelaw breaks off from his horn blast to turn to face you as you approach. Though you didn't manage to grab Girym, he has been tagging along behind you. Seeing you occupy Gorelaw's attention with your charge, Girym springs from a rock and grabs Gorelaw around the neck. "This is for eating Klarg!" he shouts (as he takes the Help action to aid Harek).
I'm going to re-roll Harek's first attack as if he had advantage.
As Gorelaw struggles with Girym, Harek lands a fatal blow in the bugbear's lung.
"You ... you have no idea what you ... that map ..." As words fail him, Gorelaw pulls a scrap of paper from the same sheath as his staff and puts it in Harek's hands, then he collapses into the stream.

Harek takes a quick look at the paper before seeing if he has a good place to store it (if not I'll use a dagger and quickly scavenge his sheath for the paper).
"Good work Girym. Keep up the good work and you may even earn a large parting gift once this is done. There must be more in this cave who will now be weary, however they may be looking for an ally to approach first. Let us move quickly before they know who we really are! Girym keep close and warn me of traps"
After this I quickly pat down Gorelaw and toss his staff to Richard Investigation:19 . "This will be more useful to you than I."
Once that is done I'll ready my Warhammer and Shield and advance quickly but will attempt to be somewhat quiet.
I think Harek rolled investigation on the staff, though being a wizard you might understand more about it. I think that's the right HP.
The staff is a fairly simple implement used to cast if one lacks a spell's component. It's made of yew, which due to old symbolic connotations means that if it has inherent magical properties they will likely involve healing. As Harek pockets the paper, he has time to notice that it is a letter addressed to Gorelaw by someone using the pseudonym "Glasstaff."
You hear commotion echoing around the cave as the inhabitants arm themselves. A goblin in common clothes appears on the platform and starts to pelt you with stones. Though harmless, it reminds you that this central passage could easily become a gauntlet if real archers were to arrive. Your options are to push upstream and around the bend to the left, head up the steep passage to the right, or go through the room to your immediate left appears to be a dog kennel.
"Girym which path will get us to the back of this cave the quickest? Quickly we need to move!" Harek keeps his weapons ready with a quick look to their guide.
He's got about 5 seconds to point in a different direction before I agree with Richard and push upstream.
"Follow me!" shouts Girym as he runs off into the kennel area. Looking in after him, you can see two elderly hunting dogs too lethargic to attack and tall ladder that Girym begins to scramble up. He waits for you at the mouth of a small passage, somewhat hesitant to go further.
Richard's spell sputters and drops a few feet away from his hand, but the goblin takes his point and retreats into a side passage.
So, I just started college and I don't think I'm going to have time to keep the game updated. I'm dropping a lot of other stuff too to make time. I'm sorry about this, you guys are a lot of fun to play with and it would have been cool to see where you took the campaign.

(Sorry, I'm out until tomorrow afternoon. I'll progress the story then)

"Oh hell no!" Richard lost his temper. "Suck on this!"
"Let's go! If no one has any better suggestions, I vote we push upstream and to the left!"

Richard rushes towards the goblin, but stops a few yards before stepping into the opening, careful not to make himself a target.

With Richard and Girym nearby, Harek readies his shield and advances down the passage.

No worries, life happens. Hopefully when you get into a routine you'll have time again.
Well, I'm not going to keep character in campaign in that case, but if you decide to get back at it, let me know.
