If he finds a tunnel that seems more promising he continues down that way.
As the pika goes from being very excited to very tired, Peanut watches her with interest. "Where have you been living on the farm? I haven't seen you before. I mean, true I haven't met a lot of the ones I've seen tonight," she smiles pointedly at Theo, "but I'm curious where it is you call home?"
As they get inside the fenced in area, Peanut searches for some food, she finds she is much hungrier after all the excitement than she realized.
Then she chuckles as Num tells Clive where the way in is, her little paw over her mouth and runs to follow Num where it will be nice and cozy.
"I just arrived here a few weeks ago, I live west of the barn... I think. I can't remember which direction west is." She yawns. Right now, she's just following the group from behind, eager to explore more despite her drowsiness.
Inside the tunnel, she decides to continue the conversation, "My true home is much, much more west away from here. It's full of mountains, mountains everywhere, actually. There are lakes, forests everywhere, you get the deal. I see bears, lynx, bald eagles, and all kinds of animals you wouldn't see normally. Well... that was until—"
Then, she stops. You thought she was going to say something dramatic... but apparently not. "Hmm... I don't think I'll share my tragic backstory yet, feels like it's too early, but that should explain things!" She smiles.

"The universe we observe has precisely the properties we should expect if there is, at bottom, no design, no purpose, no evil, no good, nothing but blind, pitiless indifference."
Theodore smiles back at Peanut as the group continues into the chicken coop. He listens to the pika's words with interest, wondering what it would be like to travel somewhere as fantastical as that someday.
The young rat rearranges his dark cloak over his shoulders in an attempt to cover his brilliant white fur before heading into the hole. Hopefully there will be less to hide from in there.
Peanut finds a lot of leftover corn kernels scattered around and by the trough. Scooping some up, she points them out for others as well if they want some rations.
"Tragic backstory? Well then... yes once we get settled that will make for a great bedtime story!" Focusing more on what is in front of her, she calls out to Num, "Have you been down here before?" It takes a moment for her eyes to adjust, but her darkvision helps.
Jerad listens to the conversations around him quietly, ears twitching as he keeps a lookout for danger. He gives the pika a surprised look when she mentions a 'tragic backstory', but quickly averts his gaze. Memories of his own life before the rose bush momentarily flash through his mind, causing his whiskers to quiver for a moment before he blinks and brings himself back to the present.
He lets Num lead the way, as it seems the larger rat has had more experience with the coop than he has. Then his whiskers twitch when Peanut asks Num if he's been down here before, and he raises an eyebrow in question as well. He'd just assumed the answer was yes, but perhaps he should also have questioned that fact since he's never seen Num before.
"I have been here a few times," he says quietly. "But it has been a while."
"The coop looks safe and empty. Hopefully these tunnels are too. If we explore the tunnels and find them to be empty, we can rest in them with people watching to make sure no one approaches who wishes our kind harm."
Clive will stick to the walls of the tunnel, preferring to stay out of sight. He isn't actively hiding, but just naturally making it so that he is less in the line of sight than others in the party so he attracts less attention.
Num easily finds his way forward, bypassing a few turns in the tunnel that he knows leads the wrong direction. They move forward until the next juncture, and Num tests again for the scent...
The tunnels are quiet, and even more so since the chickens in the coop overhead are sleeping...
Num leads the group forward, then comes to a bend in the tunnel that leads into a wide open area. It's easily recognizable as a prior camping site for the rats and other creatures visiting the coop for any time longer than a day, but today it is covered in spider webs. They line the walls and ceilings, across the floor, and form a sort of barrier a few feet inside the entrance to the chamber where a fat egg sac hangs in the middle. Still, it looks easy enough to cut through the webbing and gain access to the campsite.
Peanut is surprised when the line of rodents stop. She tries to quietly call up to Num, "Why'd we stop? I thought we were going into the coop? Find some food? I have some collected from above you need some."
Num looks at the webs and then around the chamber.
"The other tunnels take us back out," Num says then gestures to the tunnel on the other side of the webbing. "That's the way to the coop. But maybe have snack."
Num points out the spider egg sac.
He takes out one of his handaxes and cuts down the spiderweb and the egg sac.
As soon as Num cuts into the spiderweb for the eggsack, it bursts open and a swarm of hatching spiders comes pouring out and immediately fall all over Num. Spiders crawl all over him.
Inside the chamber, the sound of larger spiders becomes immediately apparent...

Clive looks around for the nearest large spider, and provided he can reach it with 15ft of movement, he will run to it, stab it with his shortsword, and then kick it as he runs back to the party.
Move up to spider with half or less movement (up to 15ft)
Action: Shortsword attack: 21 to hit, 7 piercing damage
Bonus action: Unarmed strike: 18 to hit, 6 bludgeoning damage
Move back to behind someone else (no opportunity attack due to mobile)
A large wolfspider, nearly half the size of one of the mice, comes down from the ceiling next to Num, but before it can do anything of importance, Clive springs into action. He pops up next to Num and attacks the spider, the sword sticking quick into its face before his foot flies up and finishes the job. The spider curls up, its legs rolling up underneath its body as it dies...
Two more spiders descend from the ceiling and rush toward the front of the cavern where the adventurers are piped up in the corridor, and two more can be seen stirring in the back of the cavern...

Kintla, who's slowly nodding off, jolts awake when she hears the sound of spiders... wait... do spiders make a sound?
"Uh oh..." She slowly loads her arrow into her bow, but she doesn't shoot immediately.
These poor spiders, male ones are very skittish and only eat bugs... female ones are much larger, more aggressive, and eat other males and even their mates. Can they... talk? Because if they do, she'd be down to hang out with them, maybe learn how they live and how they view life.
She couldn't bring herself to take a life, no matter how 'low' or 'worthless' it may be. To eat and to be eaten is part of the circle of life, but life doesn't have to always be cruel.
"Alright... sorry, little spider, but this must be done!" She holds her position and fires (non-lethally) at the closest spider in her longbow range.
Longbow: 9 to hit, 7 damage.

Theodore lets out a squeak when the spiders start approaching. He didn't think spiders were this aggressive...but then again, they had just walked into their nest. He draws his rosethorn dagger but doesn't rush forward. Instead he points to the farthest spider. His red eyes glow slightly as he taps into the fabric of the universe. Suddenly, air around the spider starts to shimmer with heat, and a flame sprouts from thin air. (Create Bonfire) Dex save 13 or take 5 damage.
The blunt arrow hits the top of the spider's head and glances off, sailing into the reaches of the cavern without causing any harm. However, the second spider gets a dose of Theodore's bonfire. It squeals, looking burned pretty badly, and looking very uninterested in continuing it's pursuit of finding something to eat...
Another spider begins to rush forward from the back of the cavern...

Num's a little disappointed when the spider sac doesn't turn out to be as much of a snack as he'd hoped for. He's distracted by trying to brush off all of the spiders running all over him, that he doesn't notice the very large spiders coming at the group until it's almost too late.
He leaps forward with his axes, thankful he'd already had them in hand to cut the webbing down and slashes away at the large spider right in front of him and Jerad.
