Happy to have a go. I'd love to play this campaign. That would be my first time as a Bard also ! I'm hoping for a active campaign, with the crazy hope that we'll finish this story
Name: Zelyvia Race: Tiefling Class: BARD Backstory: Baldur's Gate Entertainer Hook: in progress, but I could see something like this: On the road, fleeing Baldur's Gate and its bounty hunters, as "I once satirized a noble who still wants my head. It was a mistake that I will likely repeat.".
Array #5 for me
Zelyvia has also been a troublemaker kid but skilled in storytelling and music. Her mum worked in a tavern and she would stay late at night to hear musician and storyteller. She would hide under a table and dream to become as famous as all the heroes from those tales: Bigby, Mordakkein, Lady Silverhand... Growing up, she joined the Bard's College of Baldur's Gate where she spends her days on the bench of the Academy and her nights singing in a tavern, earning her keeps. Zelyvia had her fans and a beautiful Lady became infatuated with her, leading to a passionate relationship. What Zelyvia did not know, is that the husband was one of the powerfull baron of the city. It did not take long for the Baron to hear about this relationship and ordered to arrest Zelyvia. Zelyvia was famous but not for the good reasons, she had to flee the city and hit the roads, looking for adventures like her idols. Character sheet
Name: Thrudor Race: Lizardfolk Class: Druid Backstory: Thrudor comes from a long line of lizardfolk who live in a small village near Neverwinter. Thrudor's father, Sstrudor (second s is silent) a strong warrior, aided the realm years earlier in the fight against the Wizards of Thay. Thrudor admired his father's bravery and fortitde but was not a fighter like Sstrudor. He admired nature and the balance found within. He often wandered the Neverwinter Woods admiring the flora and fauna. As a young lizard,he met a Druid of the Emerald Enclave named Muir in the Neverwinter Woods who trained him in Druidic but before he could continue Muir had found something that frightened him enough to leave the woods. He told Thrudor that an evil was returning and that he must warn the enclave. Thrudor decided to walk the steps of his father and try to help the realm from whatever this evil was. Hook: Thrudor left the small village near Neverwinter and traveled into town to find traverlers or a caravan to walk with trying to keep balance to the order of nature.
So looking at dice rolls, I've seen people use all sorts of different settings and that's lead to some disparity I think. For those that haven't used the "always re-roll 1's" setting, go ahead and re-roll the 1's in your array. I'm trying to get a quick start on this campaign, so we can make some headway before the holidays and everyone[myself included] becomes busy with entertaining family and what not. I'm hoping to have all characters selected by today.

I hope I'm not overstepping, but I want to say that I also don't like so much when there is a big gap in ability scores between players. I like it most when the DM rolls a number of times as there are players and then everyone chooses the set that they like best. This way there is no disparity at all. People can have the same stats but they will rarely choose them for the exact same abilities. Many times I've seen people choose different stats.
Anyway, being someone who rolled high, I would also be open to trade some values with others to balance out the party.
Would like to use array 4, arranged such: 9,16,12,16,10,13
Name: Eilin Ironhand Race: Mountain Dwarf Class: Wizard Backstory: [Background: Clan Crafter] Eilin was born with an artist's soul and the sharp mind of a wizard, two things her very traditional clan had little interest in or much respect for. Her skills as a sculptor and woodcarver were evident from the start, earning her a place as a novice clan crafter, but her ideas for integrating magic into her work saw her expelled by her exasperated elders. Recognizing her natural talent, one of the clan's exceedingly few mages took her under his wings, but eventually he also despaired over her obsession for making works of art rather than learning spells for war and industry. Hook: Unable to suppress her dreams any longer and faced with the unyielding resistance of her clan, Eilin left her ancestral home, donned in her rugged adventurer's gear, and descended from the mountains into the unknown world below. She brings along her inherited mail and axe, which she wields as well as any other of her brethren, and her blossoming arcane power. She is certain that these skills will allow her to earn her way traveling and find the place where she can fulfill her dreams.

Oh, you mean like I would roll some number of arrays and then everyone could choose one? I kind of like that idea actually, I've never heard of that before!

exactly. I have seen that played several times already and participated, too. I like the fair outcome, albeit it takes away the fun of rolling dice from the players. Not everyone might like it this way.
Instead of rolling, pick and choose one of the arrays from the main post. For convenience, they're also given here:
This should help balance out the party, while maintaining the "powerful heroes" campaign I'm aiming for.
I will use array 5 if I'm picked.
Array 6 since many want to use array 5. Name: Joron Duskstar Race: Variant Human Class: Sorcerer (Runechild) Backstory: At the beginning, Joron was a happy child. Nothing out of the ordinary, but suddenly, one day. Tattoos started to appear on his body the next morning, causing panic to everyone, including himself. Learning that he was a unique case among Sorcerer and, to make it worse, some of his family had intentions that were by no means good for him. His parents force him to learn all he needs before telling him to run, for they can't protect him with how weak they are. This led to years of being on the runs as many started learning about the Runechild. Hook: While on the run, Joron continues to learn more about the runes he was born with and starts learning the runes themselves. Wandering the lands to find more about himself as a runechild. In time, in the hope of gaining the ability to protect himself from that aim to capture him for study.

Character name: Beshlog Stonebreaker Race: Goliath Class: Wizard (probably War Magic or Bladesinger when we get to that point) Backstory: Beshlog grew up in a relatively primitive tribe, surrounded by strong yet simple people. But from a young age, he knew he wanted something more... he wanted to explore the universe, and he wanted to learn about the arcane powers that his people feared. One day, his chance came when he was hunting in the woods and came upon a group of smugglers hiding out on his little in the a seaside cave near his home. He approached them, and, seeing the young goliath's potential and keen mind, they offered him a place in their crew. He learned everything he could from the smugglers, and after saving the captain's life was even gifted a spellbook, which Beshlog cherished as his most prized possession. But eventually, he knew that it was time to move on. Saying farewell to his smuggler friends, Beshlog set off to meet more friends that he could learn from while exploring the vast world.
Hook: Beshlog is a wandering mage, looking for greater arcane knowledge.
Name: Ember Race: Duergar Class: Twilight Cleric Backstory:
Ember comes from a devout clan of Duergar who worship the mother of the night. The clan believes that protection from the things that lurk in the dark. Ember was not the most devout in his clan but he loved the mission and the unknown. The great Sage of Twilight had a vision of a great evil coming from the dark causing chaos to reign, the mother of the night needs a herald to bring hope to the hopeless. One thing Ember has in spades is bravery so he took the call and is now ready for the adventuor of any Duergar's lifetime.
Hook: Ember is on a pilgrimage for his Goddess.

Unhappy that the market got rid of individual purchases for one-off subclasses, magic items, and monsters?

Wow... besides the 17, that's a pretty sad array. But the 17 I just cannot pass up.
Will come up with a character later.
