(The party makes their way to the edge of the forest as stealthily as they can and remain hidden by the trees, the clearing in front of them. About 150 feet ahead, they see the 2 goblins guarding a stone entrance. The goblin on the right looks like a serious little fellow, an intense look on his face as his eyes periodically scan the perimeter on the south side.
The goblin on the left, however, does not seem to be taking his assignment too seriously. He seems to be amusing himself with a dirty goblin magazine, hooting and hollering as he unfolds the centerfold and tries to show it to his more serious compatriot, who is visibly annoyed at his antics. They start arguing in Goblin.)
Spoiler for Cleo, who is the only one of you who knows Goblin:
"Check out the *unclear* on her! Huh? Buddy?"
"Knock it off, Krang! We're supposed to be keeping watch while the boss does his ritual."
(Krang looks like he doesn't give a shit.)
"Dude, you're such a goody two shoes! We've been here for 3 days and haven't seen one single person! Nobody comes here!"
"It doesn't matter. Something happens and the boss will tear into both of us. So do your job."
(mimicking) "So do your job..."
(You all hear gibberish, but the serious one seems to be angry at the lazy one.)
More Spoilers for Cleo:
"What the hell is taking so long, anyways?"
"It'll take as long as it takes. Boss said it might take as long as 24 hours, and they just got started last night."
"Then the kid gets it, right?"
"Yup. Needs to 'spill the blood of the innocent' to make the place all holy for the Goblin God."
"Well, that'll be fun, at least."
(The tension between the two goblins seems to be eased. The serious one almost cracks a smile. The lazy goblin goes back to his post, sits on a stump, gives a quick glance to the area he's supposed to be patrolling, then goes back to his magazine.)
DM's note: Everyone go ahead and give me a pre-emptive Initiative check. If you want to sneak to the northern forest, give me a stealth check. If you all want to just rush them, just know that you will most likely get spotted. You do have other things you could do, but I'll leave that to you guys to figure out. ;)
Spoiler for Cleo:
Just so it's clear, your teammates don't know what was said unless you tell them.
“I could disguise myself as a goblin using one of my spells, but unfortunately I don’t speak the language. It might help ya get he advantage without raising an alarm.”
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Cleo places her hand over Quorthon's when he spoke. "Thank you, friend."
6 Initiative.
When they're standing at the edge of the forest, close enough to hear what the goblin's are saying, Cleo eventually lets out a breathless gasp. "They are planning to sacrifice Bess! I hear words of a ritual that they started last night. Bess is there because they need the blood of the innocent to 'make the place all holy for the Goblin God'" The cleric shuddered in disgust, anger welling up inside her. How dare they! She turned to Quorthon.
"That may be a sound plan. I will try and get to the woods closest to them and cast my spells at a distance if possible. What if someone else tries to sneak up on the goblin to the right, while you approach them in your goblin form? That way we might get in a hit on both of them before we've blown our cover. What do you guys think?"

"Agree there, we shall hurry we can never know, they may even be doing the ritual right now and every minute counts, I'll start shooting from here as soon as we start the ambush and move in with fireballs"
Flames within his hood start getting a litle hint of green and black.
Ready action: shot crossbow

"Quorthon can you change the aspect of another of us as well? Or even yourself, if you prefer fighting close rather than from afar. they should not suspect a fellow goblin and we may be able to get more or harder hits before they are alert as such."

"Quorthon can you change the aspect of another of us as well? Or even yourself, if you prefer fighting close rather than from afar. they should not suspect a fellow goblin and we may be able to get more or harder hits before they are alert as such."
OOC: ow F*** guess I won't use fireballs if the area is non flamable, or burn the heck out of it if it is, I hope those flames don't get to Bess is so. xD
OOC#2 readied action to hit the goblin on the right (if it is not dead yet) after the 1st attack has been cast by any other player, simply attack if someone else has already attacked.
OOC#3: to keep rolls as they are quote when adding something instead of actually editing the post ;)
"Unfortunately I can only cast it on myself, and I will only be able to speak in common with them. Hopefully it won't raise any suspicions. Any suggestions what I shall say to buy some time before we attack? Or I can just strike as soon as I am within normal speaking distance. And don't worry, I'm used to close quarters combat." He grins as smoke comes lightly drifting from between his fangs.
(As the plan begins to come together, Cleo waits until she notices the Lazy Goblin seems most distracted, then stealthily sneaks towards the forest to the north of the guards. She is now in position there and within range for spells and ranged attacks. She also feels inspired by Quorthon's Bardic Insipiration.
Sklin'oth readies his Bow and waits at the edge of the forest. He scans the area to determine how flammable it is. It's a pretty open area, so he doesn't really see anything that could catch fire. There is a stone structure behind the Goblins and a couple of stone pillars, but not much else.
Quorthon casts Disguise Self to transform himself into a Goblin. It's a pretty good illusion, he looks very convincing. His bow looks like a cheap Goblin bow, and he has it ready as well.
Sturm has his Javelin at his side, ready to get within range.
OOC: I think we lost Vokrul, but I'll give him one more day, then I will roll for him. Sturm, please roll initiative. The way things are set right now, it looks like Quorthon will approach the Goblin guards to distract them, Cleo will get a surprise round, and we'll go from there.
Note to DM: I’m not sure what you’re looking at, but I don’t own a bow at all. Just a longsword and a trident. The former will be my weapon of choice here.
Quorthon walks to the lazy goblin and speaks to him in vulgar common: "You seem like the one to talk to here. I found a chest out in the forest but I can't seem to open it. Can you and him help me carry it into the cave? I'm all alone and I'm sure there's something heavy in it. Come quick!"
Readied action: when someone strikes, I attack as well with my longsword.
DM's note: Sturm, since you rolled a Stealth check, I'm assuming you're trying to sneak to the northern forest.
(Sturm decides to stealthily move to the northern forest and manages to do so quietly. He draws his weapon and gets ready.
The disguised Quorthon makes his way to the Goblin Guards. The Lazy Goblin, barely looking up from his magazine, nods at him and mumbles to the Serious Goblin.)
"Patrol's back."
(Quorthon starts talking in common and giving the Goblins a story about a chest. The Serious Goblin looks confused.)
"Wait, where's you patrol partner? Cave? You mean the tomb? Why are you talking in comm..."
(The Goblin's eyes widen as he realizes something fishy is happening. Cleo, realizing the jig is up, casts Guiding Bolt, but trips and falls flat on her face while doing so, sending the spell wide and coming close to hitting Quorthon! Cleo ends up prone on the ground. The Serious Goblin panics!)
"Aaaaah! Help!'
Goblin Initiative:
Serious Goblin: 5
Lazy Goblin: 3
OOC: Oooh, tough luck for the Goblins, but good news for you guys.
Vokrul Initiative: 16
DM's notes: Quorthon and Sturm, you both get a surprise round which you can use to attack, which happen almost simultaneously, so go ahead and roll those if you want. After that, we're going by Initiative Order. I'll be dealing with Vokrul's departure soon, but for now I'll be playing him. Cleo, just FYI, when you roll a 1, it's considered a critical failure and something bad happens which is at the DMs discretion. Being Prone will basically mean that you'll have to use your turn's movement to get up, so you can't use it to move closer to the action, but you can still attack from where you are.
Embarrassed by her total failure, and nearly hitting Quorthon in the process, Cleo feels her cheeks blush when she moves to stand up again and brush the dirt off of her clothes. Trying to shake it off, she attempts to cast guiding bolt again at the serious goblin.
Attack: 25 Damage: 22
[ ayy, nat 20! and thank you for reminding me quorthon! ]
OOC: Cleo, it wasn't your turn again yet, but I'll keep your roll for when it is, if it even lasts that long.
(Quorthon yells, "Screw it!" and attacks the Lazy Goblin! The Goblin puts his hands up, but reacts too slowly and takes a big slash across both forearms.
Sturm launches his Javelin and manages to stick the Lazy Goblin right in the throat, finishing him off!)
Now we're going by Initiative order, Sklin'oth, you're up.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
OOC: hadn't I shot the crossbow at the alert goblin with my readied action? I was in range (crossbow is 80-320 which is well within the distance between forest and goblins).
On my turn I'll move 30ft towards the serious goblin (ending at 120ft away) and cast firebolt.
