(OOC: Benn has to use his reaction to move his full walking speed to move as far away from Xanrym, who is now in the NE corner, as he can. Benn can return on his turn, of course, but Theldrin has hopefully moved far enough that Benn won't be able to get into melee range without dashing.)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Jarvis snarls at Benn, “You take care of the knight, I’ll do the rest.” He runs at Liarin with scimitar in one hand and dagger in the other. Ben swings his sword at Avery with his Reckless abandon. Attacking with advantage but also opening himself to the same.

Xanrym: Round 3
Xanrym was glad to get Benn away from Theldrin, but when Benn returns to the room, he immediately launches a pair of ferocious attacks against Avery. Xanrym immediately casts a spell to revive Avery, and while Benn is leaving himself so open to attack, Xanrym fires his crossbow at the man.
Movement: None. Maintaining his position in the NE corner of the room. Action: Attack Benn w/ advantage, Crossbow, Light (80/320): 15, Damage: 9 (piercing) Bonus Action: Cast spell (LVL 1 slot) Healing Word on Avery, Healing: 4 Free Action: Reloading crossbow.
Concentration: Heroism round 3 of 10 (Reminder: Avery gains 3 THP at the start of this turn.)
Theldrin scowls with determination as he sends another Aganazzar's Scorcher at Benn, using Sculpt Spells to protect any nearby party members. He then moves out of melee range from Benn if possible.

(OOC: Avery should be back up already. Xanrym healed him for 6 HP, and he'll get 3 THP again from Heroism. So, Avery should still be able to act this turn after he uses half his movement to stand. Since we have advantage on attacks against Benn, it might be a good time to use Action Surge and/or the +10 damage bonus from GWM.)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Benn downs Avery and turns to attack the next person, is then hit with a bunch of stuff, and Avery gets up from Xanrym’s spell, swings his sword back and beheads the giant man. Jarvis sees this as he grapples with a bear and his eyes turn cold with realisation. He has lost. He lets out a scream, “Attack! We are under attack!” And he swings one last attempt to kill the bear:
Scimitar 1 against Liarin Attack: 10 Damage: 8 Slashing
Scimitar 2 against Liarin Attack: 6 Damage: 7 Slashing
Dagger against Liarin Attack: 9 Damage: 7 Piercing
You all are up. Jarvis has just yelled for reinforcements, and is attempting to take out at least one of you before perishing.
He lets out a scream, “Attack! We are under attack!”
Xanrym: Round 4
Xanrym was worried that Avery would have trouble recovering in the mud, but he's thrilled to see the knight kill the big cultist. But then he feels a sudden falling feeling in his stomach when Jarvis screams. He thinks quickly back to the conversation he overheard these "Naga's Teeth" having before the fight. The talk of crocodiles and a harpy sounded like hazards, perhaps part of some traps elsewhere in these tunnels. It sounded like the troglodytes were assigned to guard the descent to a lower level of the lair. So that meant Jarvis was calling "the others from the dorms up north."
Trusting Liarin and Avery to finish off Jarvis, Xanrym reaches for his other bag of caltrops and spreads them at the entrance to the tunnel that leads north. He thinks that that will slow the guards down and also make it easy to get away in case the party needs to retreat.
As soon as Jarvis falls, Xanrym says in a firm voice, but not too loud, "I heard them talking about other guards, probably less skilled than the members of the Naga's Teeth," gesturing at the bodies of Benn and Jarvis, "but greater in numbers in 'dormitories' back up this tunnel to the north. We need to confront them at a bottleneck. Maybe as they try to get into the room here." By here, Xanrym clearly means at the entryway to the tunnel that leads north from the current room, where he is spreading the caltrops to make it harder for them to pour into the room. "Or as they exit this chamber through the exit to the south." He points to the south exit.
Finally, he says, "I think that the quarters of the Naga's Teeth are clear. If we need to retreat, we could make a stand there. Just remember to step around or jump over the caltrops right at the start of the tunnel to the west. Then head around the corner and straight north to the door to their quarters."
Movement: 30' west, just in front of the tunnel that leads north. Action: Use an object: spread caltrops in the tunnel to the north (middle of the tunnel, just before it opens into the chamber) Free Action: Talking. Item interaction - getting out a bag of caltrops.
(OOC: waiting until Jarvis is actually down, but thinking we're pretty beat up at this point and Theldrin is almost out of spell slots. Maybe retreating to the surface or finding a place to rest is a good idea?)
(OOC: waiting until Jarvis is actually down, but thinking we're pretty beat up at this point and Theldrin is almost out of spell slots. Maybe retreating to the surface or finding a place to rest is a good idea?)
(OOC: Xanrym prefers to face the guards while he still has Heroism in effect on both him and Avery. Starting each round with 3 THP is a great buff as long as these other guards aren't so successful with their attacks as Benn was with his Reckless Attacks. 😜
Liarin just wild shaped into a brown bear, and AFAIK, Jarvis only hit her once. So, we have at least one big tank.
If Liarin and Avery could keep the guards from pouring into the room, Xanrym, Theldrin, and Toska can use the columns for cover and cast cantrips from range.
Xanrym still has a 3 spell slots, and he can twin his level 1 slot, if needed.
From what Xanrym heard, he expects that the guards from the dorms are the last of the cultists guarding this level. If they can kill these guards, he thinks that this level of the lair becomes much safer for them to take a Short Rest. That is, there are definitely other creatures on this level, but if they try to rest now, the cultist guards are the ones who are going to come looking for them, organize a coordinated defense, or notify the lower levels of their presence. The fights have been pretty brutal, but it seems that the party has at least managed to keep the cultists on their back foot. Xanrym doesn't think that word of their attack has gotten past Jarvis and the guards he just called. If they can wipe out these guards, then it could be quite some time before anyone on the lair's lower level realizes that they party has invaded.)
Jarvis drops dead, and you all hear yelling and footsteps coming from the northeast. This is not over. The footsteps are still a little while away, you know that you've got about two rounds before the rest of the cultists come into the room. Are you staying here or retreating to the rooms of the Naga's Teeth?
