“It was always going to be hard to work with individuals we can't talk to. It might be best to hire someone that can speak the same language as these creatures.”
As the move Syllen equip his shield and casts false life using his feat.
Theldrin nods, "Let's get to the Inn as soon as possible...."he adds with a wry grin, "unless anyone has a better idea." He checks over his gear quickly as the party gets ready to move out after the battle.
Encouraged by their mutual agreement, Khessa leads the party through the hard-won gates and in the direction where the Dripstone Inn is supposedly located... Burthwol said that the Street of the Five Hanged and the inn were just three blocks north of the southern gate.
As she walks, the blonde arcane warrior tries to maintain the confident air of someone who knows where she's going; but her blue eyes are still constantly alert for any Kuo-Toa who suddenly appear or passing Drow.
As Xanrym looks for signs of danger or movement in the gatehouse, he notices that the wall in the north-west alcove looks somewhat different to the others. Other than that there doesn't seem to be any immediate danger, and you can continue into Pedestal.
Xanrym....notices that the wall in the north-west alcove looks somewhat different to the others.
Xanrym points out that area of the tunnel wall to the rest of The Company as they enter the south end of the tunnel. He warns Khessa that there's something unusual about it.
Xanrym suggests that he and Theldrin could go take a closer look for a moment while the others keep their distance and stand guard. If Theldrin brings his Light over, Xanrym can help him Investigate that part of the wall to figure out what's different about it. Maybe it's a secret door or an illusion of some sort? Or perhaps it's some sort of Kuo-Toa trap that his intuition for such things helped him to spot?
"Either way," Xanrym says,"we should probably take a look now while the Kuo-Toa are away."
"Alright...but let's be quick about it," Theldrin frowns. Seeming more interested in leaving the area than investigating the wall, he nods and comes over to take a closer look.
Khessa believes the risk of reinforcements arriving is greater than that of enemies still lurking... but since Theldrin is taking the time to check, she does it as well, hoping to speed up the process. Discussing now might just take more time than it saves.

(OOC: I think of Xanrym as a sort of pulp adventurer/explorer in the same vein as Indiana Jones or Evy Carnahan. Until The Company has their final goal in sight, he's going to want to investigate every curiosity and solve every puzzle. Hopefully, he has found something good, like hidden treasure or a secret tunnel. But based on how things have been going since we arrived in the Great Grotto, it's probably a camouflaged monster that's about to eat him!)
Coriana notices very few people walking past, and none of them even look over at the gatehouse, clearly used to ignoring the southern entrance to the city. At one point a group of Drow walk past in fine clothes, wearing badges on their lapels that depict an obsidian scythe, they look at you for a moment and then continue on like they didn't see you.
Xanrym, Theldrin and Khessa investigate the strange seeming wall in the gatehouse. You find a tiny and similarly styled design on the wall, yet featuring completely different heraldry: A golden wand. The wand is delicately inscribed, and when inspected closely glows slightly. Intricate spiderwebs run from the wand to the edges of the wall.

"Something from before the fall of Pedestal?", Xanrym suggests, "Or perhaps the sign of one of the factions?" He taps it with one of his daggers to see whether the design is a magical mark or whether it actually seems to be carved or painted on the wall. If nothing happens when he taps it with his dagger, Xanrym tries touching the wand with his finger or "plucking" one of the spider webs, which reminds him of the strings of his harp.
If the wand and web design doesn't react at all, he shrugs. Even though he longs to study it more, he consents to leave the wall and the gatehouse, knowing that The Company needs to get out of the area before the Kuo-Toa return with reinforcements. He's sure that there's more to the golden wand than a mundane piece of a fresco, but they're not gong to figure it out just by staring at it. He hopes that this mystery will become more clear as they learn more about Pedestal and the conflict between the Inheritors, the (assassins) Guild, and House Dusklorn.
When you touch it with your dagger, you feel a slight invisible pressure pushing back at you, like trying to push two magnets together. If you went on to touch it with your finger it would be the same, but you'd feel a slight prickling in your finger. Plucking the web does nothing.
"Hmm... intriguing..." Theldrin studies the wand design for a moment, then touches it with his finger, pulling it back sharply as he feels the prickling. He looks at Xanrym with raised eyebrows, "Let's file this away for future research, and make haste to get out of here for now."
Khessa quickly takes notes in her spellbook about the bizarre magical phenomenon, but agrees with Theldrin: "Yes, let's go. If we manage to ally ourselves with a faction, once our faction has control of this door, we can easily identify the symbol's magical powers with an appropriate ritual. But this is neither the right circumstance nor the right time."
The blonde arcane warrior then, to emphasize what she's said, actually begins to lead the party toward the inn...

Syllen nods to Khessa.
“Agreed, we need to move as quickly as possible.”

As Avery went below 0, I assume he is unconscious and needs to have a potion poured down his throat or healed in another fashion
Avery got back to 9 HP, thanks to Syllen; see post 4449
Theldrin follows Khessa's lead, pulling up the hood of his cloak and keeping a watchful eye out for any signs of danger.

Avery will pull himself together, having just had the snot knocked out of himself, being so close to oblivion.
