Theldrin again focuses on the Mind Master, sending a crackling arc of lightning out from his hand. He weaves the electrical energy around Xanrym, striking Soulblade 4 on its way towards the tiny form of the Mind Master by the wall.
Lightning Bolt Lightning Damage: 38 DEX Save 15 for half
Soulblade against Xanrym Attack: 20 Damage: 6 Force Soulblade against Xanrym Attack: 11 Damage: 9 Force
Thankfully, Xanrym's Shield is still in effect. He dodges one of the attacks. While other attack seems to be perfectly-aimed, just as the blade is about to reach him, it slams into the Shield and is deflected, missing Xanrym by an inch.
At Xanrym's words, Regrak let's out a laugh. "You think we are the ones in danger here? I think the Company of the Grey Chain overestimates itself. Let me dissuade you of your ego my friend."
Xanrym calls back in a casual, unconcerned tone, "I would recommend that you speak to others who underestimated The Company of the Grey Chain, but I'm afraid that they're all dead!"
(On Xanrym's turn...)
Xanrym can feel his hair stand on end as Theldrin's lightning bolt flashes past and around him, but he sees that the Duergar are tougher than he hoped, with many of them still standing despite Syllen's crows! Still, the fighters seem to be holding their own, and Xanrym calls out praise and inspiration to Coriana after her brutal two-scimitar assault on one of the assassins. Then Xanrym chants a spell in time to his rhythm-maker's drum, hoping to make it harder for the Duergar Soulblades to hit Xanrym, Theldrin, and Syllen and to make them more vulnerable to further spells.
Movement: If Theldrin's lightning bolt killed Soulblade 4, then Xanrym moves around to the west side of Soulblade 3. Otherwise, he holds his current position. Action: Cast spell (LVL 1 or 2 slot) Bane on 3 (or 4) of the Druergar. (See targets below.) Each duergar must make a DC 17 CHA saving throw or be affected by the spell. While the spell lasts, whenever affected creatures attack or make a saving throw, they must subtract a 1d4 from the roll. Targets: If Soulblade 4 is still alive and the Mind Master are both still alive after Theldrin's lightning bolt: Mind Master and Soulblades 3, 4, & 7 If one of the Mind Master or Soulblade 4 was killed by Theldrin's lightning bolt: Soulblades 2, 3, 7 and Soulblade 4 / Mind Master If both the Mind Master and Soulblade 4 were killed by Theldrin's lightning bolt, just use a LVL 1 slot: Soulblades 2, 3, & 7 Bonus Action: Grant Bardic inspiration to Coriana. Free Action: Talking to Regrak
Bardic Inspiration: Coriana Once within the next 1 hour, when the target fails a D20 Test, they can roll a 1d8 and add the number rolled to the d20, possibly turning failure into a success. Unfailing Inspiration: if the ability check, attack roll, or saving throw still fails after adding that number, the creature can keep the Bardic Inspiration die.
Theldrin's Bolt tears Soulblade 4 to pieces and sears the Mind Master, damaging her severely. Avery's second sword swing bites into Soulblade 6, while Xanrym succesfuly Bane's the Mind Master and Soulblades.
Regrak commands his hit squad, sounding slightly more desperate, "Grow now! Take care of the spellcasters!" The remaining Soulblades all let out a horrific gurgling sound as they use their Bonus Actions to double in size, and three of them attack Syllen, trying to break his concentration on the conjured animals (one of them had to hit him while they weren't enlarged to avoid Opportunity attacks. Also rolling the first Bane here as it applies: 4 )
@drumdigby If Soulblade 6, 8 and 10 do not move away from conjure animals(farther than 10 feet) they will need to make a DC 15 Dex Save or take 19 Slashing Damage.
[[ OOC: I was wondering why you were using the 2014 rules to determine whether a duplicate or Khessa was attached... so I realized that, my bad, when I used the [ spell ] tag, for some reason it linked to the 2014 version of the spell, not the 2024 version.
In the 2024 version, the roll isn't a single d20, but 1d6 for each duplicate, and an illusion is hit if at least one of the rolls is a 3+. For now, since the roll has already been done, I'll have Khessa use Shield, but from the next roll, let's remember to use the correct rule. ]]
The real Khessa is unexpectedly identified once again without difficulty, as if these enemies were able to see through illusions. The surprise is such that the psychic blade slips past our heroine's guard—she deflects the blow at the last moment with a magical, instinctive gesture, which, combined with a quick incantation, once again materializes an invisible (but impenetrable) Shield.
The blonde arcane warrior counterattacks, choosing the most battered target within range. She telepathically instructs her brother to distract the target, then the Greatsword's magical blade becomes pure light and swiftly strikes the opponent.
@drumdigby If Soulblade 6, 8 and 10 do not move away from conjure animals(farther than 10 feet) they will need to make a DC 15 Dex Save or take 19 Slashing Damage.
(@JehanO - FYI - I added a dashed-circle "attachment" to the murder of crows on the map to show the 10-ft Emanation from them.)
