It’s hard to work out from just observing them. From the way people talk about it though, you do not want to get close to Plaguelost creatures. It is said the Ash Doom sucks the life from its victims.
(OOC: I may have been unclear what Xanrym was proposing...)
Xanrym was thinking that the Plaguelost are basically undead spawned from those killed by the Ash Doom plague. The (living) people in Pedestal avoid the Plaguelost or kill them. Since no one has offered us details about the Plaguelost, Xanrym though that The Company go on a little hunt. We would go closer to the site of the Plagueburst and try to find one or two of the Plaguelost that are on their own and attack them from a distance. He intended to stay stay 60-ft or more away from them. Just hit them with ranged attacks and fall back, checking to see which of their weapons / spells are most effective.
Xanrym figured that it would be better to do that experiment at a time and place of our own choosing. He didn't want to wait until The Company is in the Necromancer's Spike and suddenly facing a large group of Plaguelost at close quarters to discover their abilities. If the Plaguelost are immune to fire or explode when destroyed or something like that, he thought that it would be better to learn that before we enter the Necromancer's Spike.
if everyone is cool, we’re going to do a Long Rest and head to The Necromancer’s Spike.
(OOC: Related to my previous post, it sounds like no one else is enthusiastic about trying to kill a few Plaguelost. Unless a couple of the other members of The Company change their minds, Xanrym will be content with what we learned by just observing the Plaguelost from a distance. Agree about the Long Rest and then heading to the Necromancer's Spike the next day.)
You head to Spike. The spire rises up out of the noble section of the city, a constant reminder of the gravity and size of this cavern. It rises up overhead as you approach the only entrance. Rubble litters the floor and a drow warrior leans casually against the entrance. She hasn’t noticed you yet.
"He must be a traitor, a drow who abandoned his faction to join Fadheela," Khessa whispers to the others. "Let's attack him by surprise and eliminate him; there's no point in risking him raising the alarm."
For the long rest: Syllen would be happy to prepare the spell so that he can make the scroll for Xanrym. Syllen will cast Goodberry before the long rest. Lastly Syllen will say a few words of protection so everyone gets 10 Temp HP.
Currently: Syllen agrees with Khessa.
“I have no qualms with killing the drow. We should kill him quickly.”

Xanrym says, "No, no. She's probably the guard set by House Dusklorn. Remember: Es Sarch told us that the drow had claimed the Spike and posted soldiers at the entry. Perhaps they let Fadheela enter because of the previous alliance between The Assassin's Guild and House Dusklorn?"
Xanrym suggests that they should talk to the guard since Irennaste promised to designate The Company as "Honored Guests" of House Dusklorn. If he followed through, then the guard will probably let them through, and they may be able to ask her for more information, like whether Fadheela is currently inside the Spike.
When Khessa returns, she's definitely in agreement. Fine by me.
He will plus arrows so he has a ranged weapon: heavy cross bow with 40 bolts

I think we’ll say that everything you just described is what that Medicine check was for. And you were unable to get too much intel.

How do you handle this situation?

On the way to the Spike, Theldrin casts Mage Armor on himself. He agrees with Khessa and Syllen about taking out the Drow guard, nodding quietly.

"Do you think he's had time to let all the troops know?" Theldrin asks as he watches the Drow intently.
