The Ettin is looking really beat up now. It desperately runs at Liarin, throwing two hits with it's weapons as it struggles through the tight space, both heads screaming in rage:
Xanrym fires his crossbow at the ettin. Liarin's wolf form fills the hallway in front of him, but the giant-kin is so tall that Xanrym still has a clear shot at the upper half of its body, heads, and shoulders.
(OOC: Finishing strong! I noticed that we both forgot that attacks against the ettin are made with advantage while it's in the smaller space, but I doubt that it matters now since I think that we've now done 101 HP of damage in this fight.
I'll roll the second attack roll for Xanrym here to see whether he gets a nat-20 out of advantage: 8.)
The Ettin sinks to the ground, finally felled by the spells and bites and swords. It groans as it flops to the ground with a sharp slap.
There's nothing else in this small room that you can see, more of an ambush spot than the Ettin's home. You could follow the trail of bones to the north or head back east and north-west and through the door there.
You could follow the trail of bones to the north or head back east and north-west and through the door there.
Trail of bones! That is, since Xanrym was quite close to where the northern tunnel turned the corner to head back south, before he joins the search the ettin's lair /ambush spot, he takes his lantern and at least peeks around the corner. He just takes a quick look at this time, mostly to make sure that there's not another monster hiding down that tunnel and to see whether there's anything there other than an empty hallway.
Avery cleans his sword, and scoffs. "what type of temple keeps an Ettin in the basement, and from the trail of bones, it appears to have been her for a while. I hate to wonder, but do you think the original Chaplain for this temple, ended up down here?"
Xanrym agrees with Avery's sentiment: "I don't think that it would be possible to keep a murderous giant-kin here and keep it quiet from the members. The whole temple must have been corrupted! I expect that all of the clerics of Merikka were either killed or converted to the naga's cult."
Xanrym examines the bones, hoping that the cultists fed the ettin slaughtered animals but fearing that he'll find human bones. Investigation or Nature (same bonus) 24
