With a misshapen wooden shield over a small backpack and carrying a quarterstaff, a short, dark-haired, grimy human with a plain, young face. A large, multi-pocketed coat makes discerning a form impossible.

After seeing the caravan and reporting back to the others as to what I saw, I take flight again. I fly toward the lead caravan before coming to a stealthy landing in the trees near the trail.
Stealth: 6 Adv: 9
I cast alter self on myself. I change my form to appear of one of the city guard at the gate. I come out of the woods and attempt to stop the lead caravan. “Do you have your papers on you or are you another band of raiders? The city is on lock down after an attack on the north gates by raiders claiming to be merchants. Guess you didn’t hear yet.”
Deception: 8 ?Adv (while dressed as the city guard)?: 9
- I used my sorcery point to get a 2nd level spell slot back after the alter self spell.
Atporix, appearing to be the human again whom the group first met but now dress as a city guard, emerges from the trees adjusting the fly of his trousers. "Whew. That was a relief." He continues up behind Valrakas. "What have we here. More brigands trying to make their way into the city?"
The mercenary looks to Valrakas, "The north gate...pretty sure old Cresthall didnt get a seagate last time I was here." He yells out, "Hey cap, was there a gate on the northend of Cresthall?."
"Why bother, the tritons patrol that end of the sea, they'll deal with pirates."
"Thought so, so what are you on about guard? Or you forget your city?" He smirks at you
(They believe the disguise but are suspicious of your wrong geography. On phone atm)
"I guess we're doing this" She mutters then creeps a bit closer. From a distance her armor might be mistaken for a city guard, but up close she knows she won't fool anyone so she doesn't get too close.
Hollisa looks looks around to see who might help the caravan if they were attacked right here.
“Its called the north gate for the “North” family, who’s estate sits near by. Much easier to say than the proper name. “Royal Tenenbaum gatehouse.” Like I’m really going to say that every time.”
I cast charm person at level 2 on the mercenary and the captain. WIS save 12

The first man nods, "Hey old man, they want to make sure you ain't a raider." He yells at the cart.
The old man driving the cart grumbles as he produces a small note from his person. He passes it to the merc who passes it to you. The note is sealed with a mercenary coat of arms. Shipment for one of the mercenary companies in Cresthall.
"Gear for the new recruits and a few barrels of ale. Along with our contract pay from the last few jobs."
Moe steps up next to Val to look over the note. "This all looks in order. Right, Chas?" Moe gives his partner a nod to let them move on, then checks the tree line to see who may be in range to help if needed.

Sticking with the Tenenbaum theme, lol
A DC 20 perception check would notice Pavla, I suppose.
I look over at Moe, snatching the paper from his hands. “What have I told you, Richie?! You have to check the paper with the shipment. You want to be responsible with letting in contraband, yet again?” I look over at the mercenary. “Sorry about all this. He’s new and not all that smart as you can see. We'll get you on your way here in a minute. Anyone traveling with you of importance? I knew a noble once. He helped me out quite a bit. Always good to be in the company of important people.”
The mercenary scratches his head, "Nobles...Oh you talking about the slaves in the back? No way, we just bringing some back and got a few new ones. I plan on playing with one all night long once we get home." He smiles at you, "And anyone of importance...Hey, cap, you slept with a noble didn't you?"
"Yea, got fired after. Might have a bastard."
"That's about the most important thing we've probably did."
The road is mostly scarce, mostly just people heading home and a few vagrants just wandering. Past the trees, a few hunters are setting camp. Most likely to help in case of an attack is the upcoming caravan guarded with the city's guard. They are still far away at the moment and are traveling slowly.
“well open up the back. Need to make sure there’s no contraband hidden in the slaves holding. Or just hand over the key and I’ll check on it myself. No reason to leave your comfy seat.”

Onyx pulls his hood up. and walks into the woods a ways to stay out of sight and begins to flank around to the opposite side of the cart that Mo and Val are standing, being sure to avoid the group of hunters (If they are on this side of the road) I'll wait with bow in hand arrow notched but not full tension in case their disguises are found out and all hell breaks loose. Aiming at one of the mercenaries I can see only letting the arrow fly if they attack first.

They both look at each other before shrugging, "Alright, cap got the key, he'll show you."
The other mercenary went round back of the cart, unlocking the cage. "Go on now, stand up all of you." Four people emerge from the back of the cart. Two men and two women. (I'll describe them in the spoiler, if you don't care for it, skip it)
All of them had a ankle bracelet made of copper with a runic spell upon them. These people's lives were forfeit and must serve a sentence as long as they were sold for. While folks in the city would call them indentured servants, most other people would just call them slaves. As they must do anything their new contract holder says, or else they'll suffer from the bracelet.
One man is a human man, brown skin with a bald head, larger than the other slaves. He has a determined look about himself as he stares at you back. The other man is a dwarf, his beard untamed and wild. He had a stocky build almost rivaling the human. A woman is a drow, her silver hair contrasting nicely against her gray skin. She keeps her head down as she just follows orders. The last one is a young tabaxi, her height almost the same as the dwarf. Her fur a bright orange with white lines going about it, she glances all about, taking in the sights.
They all wear quite simple clothes. Not rags, but a simple shirt and pants for the men while the women wear a single dress. They hold nothing in their hands. And as you can see behind them, their cage is as empty.
"Can't have one of you guards check it by yourself, that cat there might get jumpy again and run off. Been having to deal with that one's energy for a bit." He stands back and leans onto the cart, "And don't think of touching them. If you want them, head to our place and buy them there."
Rakish eyes flashed for a moment from his hidding place when he saw the slaves. That would be a nice reward for all the incommodities and for having to bear the unbereable company of lesser beigns.
His hand were at his weapon, ready for when his companions attack.
Quite a lovely drow woman there.... always had a thing for those dark creatures.... “where’s your place happen to be?” I say, taking my time to search the holding compartment. “And who owns them? Seems strange to sell good help.” I crotch down in front of the tabs I with my back toward the guard. I alter only my face to my normal appearance with a big toothy grin and a wink before morphing back into the ugly human guard form. I turn back to face the guard.
Atporix, you can see all members of your group out among the tree line. Most of them are at the ready to ambush on you and Valrakas say so.
The tabaxi lass backs up and ducks behind the drow, taking glances at both Val and Atporix. The tabaxi whispers to the drow, who pets the tabaxi, cooing her. The captain pays no mind, "Our boss does, we use them as labor or if we want a companion for the night. We're the mercenary company known as the Steel Fists, we got a base right down Wet Route. And we don't sell them, we just offer their bodies to people who are willing to pay for it. We take them back."
