Yeah, the dice are showing weird results. BTW, I was not using the built in roller, I've been typing in the rolls straight into the window. Here is my last attack post, I've been keeping them in a doc so if I want to find something, I don't have to search the forum for it.
I "feel" like when I first rolled it, it did display accurately as I've been looking at them. Perhaps it changes over time? weird but possible. I'll keep an eye on my rolls.

It might even be a copy/paste sort of thing? Dunno. That, or maybe because the roll is next to a tooltip?
For the next few rolls, I'd like to go back to basics.
Attack, bless, damage. Three dice, three rolls. Then we can start getting fancy with it bit by bit ... and if we start getting wonky rolls again ... then we might be able to figure out why.
OK, I just attacked the fancy way as it was before I saw your last post. Will go back to basic rolls after this one. Right now my dice look correct, I'll check it again tomorrow and see if it changes.
Shakedown encounter complete, gang! I feel like the group is gelling well and we have established a baseline routine of sorts for how tracking things round-by-round will/should look.
My big takeaways ...
- I really want us to try to keep the OOC chatter out of the IC threads.
- I also would like to trim down / eliminate the 'just in case' sorts of rolls.
- That pesky die roller! Admittedly, it is my first game here on DDB, but the dice roller being wonky on a site that is charging me a monthly subscription is very frustrating.
-Lastly, the action economy. We're all coming to the game with different backgrounds and/or experience levels. As you guys have seen, I am very much a rules-as-written sort of DM. What sorts of actions may you cram into a single round, etc. Being clear with your intentions is huge. We had a few instances of impossible actions or cannot-really-do-all-of-that-in-one-round sorts of actions declared ... but the trend was definitely positive and trended better toward the end of the encounter.
Moving forward, I would like it if we continued to ...
- Keep striving to keep the OOC chatter out of the IC.
- Rolled far less 'just in case' sorts of rolls.
- Used specific language when it comes to intended or implied game actions. By throwing an OOC at the end of the IC post if the IC 'flavor and fluff' language of the IC was not clear, for example.
...
Thoughts? Feedback? Concerns? This is a two way street, and it is, after all, a game. We are here to have fun, so if there is stuff that you would like me to be doing more/less of ... please feel free to continue the conversation either here or in PM.
Im a RAW guy too and appreciate the effort it keeping things consistent.
i personally don’t have an issue with “in case” rolls, especially if they’re pertaining to something that is likely to happen, and if they’re a part of the same post and not clogging up the thread. They’re just meant as a courtesy and to keep things flowing a bit easier BUT of course, I’ll work with what the DM feels is best; it’s no biggie for me.
Everything seems to be going well! I think there’s a natural learning curve with every new character and game. I’ve been playing for years but I’ve never had a character like a DEX paladin with a finesse weapon and a dagger 😂 and so even I had a mechanical question regarding throwing daggers. I suspect we’ll be getting smoother and smoother as we continue
My big takeaway on the dice roller. The dice roller mechanic works, but the dice roller at the top of the text box does not really work. My advice? Type in the code directly and skip the dice roller block.
RAW is great with me. I agree we have our different backgrounds about how things work so being on the same page works great. Things seem pretty smooth, I appreciate the post round and now post battle update you give also. Very helpful!
Other than that, in my extremely novice opinion this game is going great! The dice roller being wonky has been disappointing but hasn't detracted from the game and we've rolled with it very well I think.
One of the bummers about this platform is that you can't easily drop in a comment to the thread. Each reply and post is roughly the same size. I think I will do better remembering things like bless and conditions moving forward. I also wish there was a way to edit a comment that you put in already and not monkey with the roll mechanics. But, I will get used to it.
You don't realize just how much there is chatter back and forth during a game and how much that can affect the choices you make on any particular turn. For instance, I realized that I would have probably announced that I was at 1HP when I doubled back to the wall. Mabe you all assumed that. But, usually it would be part of the natural OOC chatter around the table. It was a reminder to me that being in the team means finding ways to telegraph our connected play IC.
Anyways. I was wondering if people wanted to share anything about themselves to have it be at least a little engaging in a personal way. Maybe, DM, do you want to decide some rudimentary getting to know you things that might be of interest. I'm perfectly happy sharing my name and situation. But, it could be just as simple as 'years of play'...'how we like to dnd'...things like that? Happy to be incognito or more friendly, based on the comfortability of the group.
I did not notice you were that low on HP Calim. I do remember you being hit, and now looking back at the posts I see it was for seven, that's pretty good damage at level 1. Being a healer I was trying to watch HPs, so feel free to call out IC if your low and I'll see what I can do.
FYI, I generally will not heal during combat, unless u drop to 0, and then I will use healing word to get you back up. Especially at lower levels where we have so few spell spots. I have to be stingy. :)

That's the kind of stuff I don't mind being added as the OOC snippets of a post. I thought how you characterized the withdraw/second wind actions IC as pulling back to cinch down on the armor straps so Calim could get himself sorted was pretty cool ... but then like adding some 'table talk' won't break my brain.
Example: OOC — At 1hp, going to withdraw and use Second Wind. Plan is to rejoin melee next round.

Doesn't bother me one bit. This OOC thread is for all that stuff. A little Who's Who has never hurt any game I have been in.
Me ... I started gaming in the early 90's (I'm mid-40's now). Cut my teeth on AD&D 2nd Edition. For the most part, I've been a fan of the editions as they have been released (skipped 4th though). Huge horror nerd. Movies, comics, games, you name it. Married, two kids (oldest is out of the house, youngest is 18).
Yes, I didn’t think i had any other trigger for a luck point sorry

No worries, I just wanted to be 100% certain before charging you a luck point to reroll a hit. :)

Cool, cool. Just let me know.
I don't mind adding a hp block to the round summaries. We can try that during the next encounter.
Quick question, can Volneer find the book that the ritual actually came from?
