The kenku feels a bit put off. "Should. We. Be. Concerned. Over. The. Number of. Tunnels. Opened. Recently. That. Have. Otherwise. Not. Been. Picked. Clean?"
"That is definitely a point of concern. Some of the tunnels seem to be from miners, think of all the abandoned picks and hammers, I think that the abomination we killed earlier may be venturing up from the Underdark. We need to keep a guard and be careful but we can handle this."
Halleth nods. "This is definitely the right direction. She's close now." He points in a east-northeast direction. "We probably get there quicker by heading north then east." He seems unbothered by the empty tunnels.
"Okay then, give me a second to try moving up to the corner of the first corridor running to the east. I want to try and see where those bugbears are. If we can avoid them I think that would be best."
Pisgah will move up to the corner and peer around. (looking to see if the bugbears are in sight or not)
If the bugbears are not in sight, he will let the group know and encourage folks to move further up the corridor to the north.
[To be clear, Halleth meant moving to position 1, then position 2. Did Pisgah mean to call the party to position 3 or did he mean to follow Halleths directions?]
Pisgah moves to the corner (position 3) and peers beyond. The corridor here widens to 20 feet, but is otherwise empty, going east for some distance until it disappears into darkness.
Yes, you see the boot prints going in the indicated direction. When Pisgah steps into the hallway, he sees that the corridor goes to the north. On the way, there is a door west, decorated with a water symbol.
South, you see the exit of the tunnel from before.
The prints go around a corner to the east, where Pisgah can see the flickering of some light. There are also the faint noises of tableware, as if someone is eating.
Halleth stares in the direction of the boot prints. "She's close." His hand closes around his mace.
Pisgah pulls out the ear horn, creeps to the bend in the tracks, and takes a listen to try and determine if the sounds of clinking tableware indicate more than one person eating.
"There sounds like multiple people in the room. Halleth is ready to attack now and I don't think we will have much, if any, opportunity to talk to them. How do we want to play this? Do we just saunter around the corner and hang back to let Nikk drop a fireball in there?"
Nikkitch, without an extra word, begins conjuring a small swirling flame in his talon. He has no qualms about a surprise attack, nor of wanton violence. If nothing else, he'd argue, it's his specialty. No, his pleasure.
The wizard scurries forward with the silence of a thief. Indeed, he makes little sound as he moves into place, a smoldering orange light still swirling in his talon as he moves to the doorway.
OOC: I forgot about having 1 use of Pass Without Trace. If allowed, I would use here and retcon my 12 to a 22 and Nikk's 20 to a 30. Anyone else trying to Stealth would get a plus 10.
Jaya stays back in order not to alert the room, the others move forward. Canti is also pretty stealthy, so she is able to move with the group. Halleth also rushes forward, his footsteps quiet like those of a predator approaching its prey.
As you round the corner, you behold a single large room. Freestanding iron torch sconces in the four corners of the room provide a comfortable light. Empty bookshelves and desks line the walls. Against the south wall stands a long banquet table bearing fresh foodstuffs on copper platters and copper flagons filled to the brim with wine. A portrait of a smiling, slightly crazy looking old man hangs above the table¹.
Relaxing in one of several overstuffed chairs in the middle of the room, waited on by what looks like floating trays of food and drink (1-4), is a darkly dressed woman (M). Around her neck, she wears two holy symbols: one shaped like a gold coin (the symbol of Waukeen, god of trade), the other a black disk outlined in purple.²
You feel like there are invisible presences in the room, possibly responsible for lifting the food trays. You can guess the location of four of them (marked 1-4), but there may be more (area marked with "?"). If you wish to attack a presence that you can't guess the location of, roll 1d4. On a 4, you guess correctly. Nikkitch still has detect magic active, so he is able to see that there are a total of 9 of these presences in the room, most of them in the center.
The woman, completely surprised by you, has no time to react.
¹ [History] Rico, Nikk and Canti recognize the man as a slightly younger Halaster Blackcloak. ² [Religion] Rico, Nikk and Canti; this is the symbol of Shar, god of darkness and loss
Halleth, an image of fury, throws himself at the woman. "MIDNA, NOW YOU WILL PAY FOR WHAT YOU DID!"
Turn 1 His eyes blaze with energy, a twist in the weave shoots across the room, directed at the priest. She tries to resist it, but fails, screaming as the energy paralyzes her body.
Turn 2 The undead then starts slashing at her with incredible fury and violence. His strikes suddenly seem much more powerful than before. In addition, the priest can't defend herself due to being frozen stiff with fear. Attack: 22 (autocrit due to paralyzed), damage: 34 bludgeoning Attack: 17 (autocrit due to paralyzed), damage: 41 bludgeoning
Halleth continues punching the body, but all you see is blood where her face was. She is already dead.
Initiative: 1. Pisgah, Jaya, Halleth < YOUR TURN 2. The invisible presences (1-4 + "?") [surprised] 3. Canti, Ricon, Nikkitch < YOUR TURN
Since Midna is surprised, she skipped the first turn, so all of you can go. Pisgah, Jaya and Halleth can execute two turns, since they are also first in initiative in round 2. Halleth ended up killing Midna already, so there are just the presences remaining.
The kenku feels a bit put off. "Should. We. Be. Concerned. Over. The. Number of. Tunnels. Opened. Recently. That. Have. Otherwise. Not. Been. Picked. Clean?"

Pisgah moves to the corner (position 3) and peers beyond. The corridor here widens to 20 feet, but is otherwise empty, going east for some distance until it disappears into darkness.
I would follow Halleth's directions.
Let's say Pisgah is at position 2 with the party behind with Pisgah ready to retreat depending on what he sees.
Are the boot prints leading this way?
Yes, you see the boot prints going in the indicated direction. When Pisgah steps into the hallway, he sees that the corridor goes to the north. On the way, there is a door west, decorated with a water symbol.
South, you see the exit of the tunnel from before.

PERCEPTION roll of 25 (on a Nat 20)
Pisgah is able to determine that it sounds like multiple people moving around tableware, or perhaps one person that is very busy.
"There sounds like multiple people in the room. Halleth is ready to attack now and I don't think we will have much, if any, opportunity to talk to them. How do we want to play this? Do we just saunter around the corner and hang back to let Nikk drop a fireball in there?"

[Begins casting Fireball]
"Halleth, can you confirm that Midna is in that room before Nikk turns her into a candle?"
Halleth nods. "Yes, that is her, I'm sure of it."
[If you wish to surprise whoever is in that room, you'd need to sneak up to the entrance.]
Pisgah shoulders his shield and pulls his longbow. "Nikk, can you quietly get to the door entrance while I cover you with a bow?"
Stealth roll of 12.
The wizard scurries forward with the silence of a thief. Indeed, he makes little sound as he moves into place, a smoldering orange light still swirling in his talon as he moves to the doorway.
[Stealth: 20]
OOC: I forgot about having 1 use of Pass Without Trace. If allowed, I would use here and retcon my 12 to a 22 and Nikk's 20 to a 30. Anyone else trying to Stealth would get a plus 10.
Let me know if allowed and I will mark it off.
Jaya's armor is loud and clanky, even with pass without trace, he would hang back as to not ruin the surprise.
OOC: Every good team has a player that can hit cleanup in a clutch!
Rico and Steel will stay close enough to provide support. Although she's not trained in stealth, and is made of metal, she's still decently sneaky.
Jaya stays back in order not to alert the room, the others move forward. Canti is also pretty stealthy, so she is able to move with the group. Halleth also rushes forward, his footsteps quiet like those of a predator approaching its prey.
