I guess I need to know how far up and back the cavern goes. And I was wrong, Tenebril only has Create Bonfire. It does Not explicitly call out being a light source. But a campfire is a light source and this is supposed to be bigger than a campfire so it's been left up to the individual DM as to whether it adds light or not. I wish they would just add a line saying "It acts as a campfire of similar size"
Players are up. These guys dont do anything else, not yet. The exploding ground would be a check for anyone withon 20ft, but nobody was. So, players are up.
The human escapes the grapple, bit now he's just inches away from the Maw.
The joking paladin becomes very serious as the huge monstrosity emerges from the depths. Strangely and with grim determination, he advances directly to the thing, drawing sword and shield and saluting it: "I am Sparhawk, a knight of the Pandion order. My heart will be the agent of justice, my sword the instrument of vengeance."(Bonus action: Vow of Enmity)
Do we need to figure out a light source for the rest of the party? Looks likeTess had the latern and oil. Not sure what else she had that's needed for the story
As the fighter is yanked off his feet, Gharzun moves without hesitation. The monstrous form pulling him in—a twisted fusion of stone and hunger—draws his full attention. The hammer is already in motion by the time his boots strike the wet stone beneath him.
“Hold fast!” he calls out, voice echoing like a command across the stone-choked chamber. “I see it!”
He surges forward, bringing his warhammer down with unrelenting force. The blow lands squarely against the monster's side, and divine light erupts from the impact—radiant fire roaring down the hammer’s length and into the creature’s hide. The cavern pulses with the light of his wrath, casting shadows like spears between the stone columns.
“Release him, beast!”
He follows through with another strike, driving the hammer in again, though the angle is tighter and the footing less secure. Still, he does not slow.
Tenebril, seeing that he has a creature above him will immediately blast it to try to get it as far away from him as he can and then he will fly down a bit to put farther space between it and himself.
I pull out my short sword and dagger and attack the roper that grabbed me
edit: I rolled a 13 and have a plus ten to hit cause the uncommon magic item I have is a +1 short sword so a 23 to hit and for damage a rolled a 4 plus 6 for 10 damage and then I will attack with my dagger cause it’s light and I have two weapon fighting I rolled a nine for the dagger with a plus nine to hit is 18 then I rolled a 1 for damage then cause I have three attacks I will attack with my short sword two more times the first one was a 23 to hit with 8 damage and then a 22 to hit for 10 damage so another 18 points of damage
The human cuts himself free from the tentacle and attempts to flee the Maw, which lashes out with one of the vine-like tendrils reaching out from its mouth, feeling blindly in the air for its prey, moving with sored and intent as the footfalls of the human direct the predator to its location 20 for 15 bludgeoning and the fighter is grappled.
(I'm not using the name because he hasn't yet given it to the party, unless i missed it).
If the bite lands, the target must succeed on a DC 18 Strength saving throw or be swallowed. A swallowed creature is blinded and restrained, has total cover from effects outside the Maw, and takes 21 (6d6) acid damage at the start of each of the Maw’s turn
<Talking is free. I dont really know anyones plan here except what your actions suggest. It seems Sparhawk is intent on saving the human, while he is clearly focused on his own survival. The rest of the group I'm not sure about. This is an old school tournament module, so xp was gold. Killing monsters does not help, its really a decision between defeating them and escaping. For the giant back there, the least reaource intensive path would have been to trigger the alarm, then when hes frawn out, steal the gold under the weasel pelt a d leave before he gets back. The fungal mounds had some magic items, but once you saw them, the best play is to take them and leave. Killing the mounds doesn't do much but eat through health and spells.>

Eldritch Blast, Beam 1 - Attack 21, Damage: 9, Repelling Blast 10ft - (Roper 2)
Eldritch Blast, Beam 2 - Attack 23, Damage: 14 Repelling Blast 10ft - (Roper 2)
Eldritch Blast, Beam 3 - Attack 29, Damage: 14 Repelling Blast 10ft - (Roper 2)
(I assuming Roper 1 is the one that initially had our newcomer)

<wow lots of posts. Good engagement. The human fighter can just have a torch, its fine. He probably would if he was down here exploring.
Created bonfires do illumate spaces I don't know the radius, but dont think it matters yet.
Character turnover hapoens. Tess is functionally gone. Don't loot her corpse, she mighr come back.
I dont think the light makes mich difference, it was more like "how many free hands does the human have?" A sword and a torch leaves none.
Blasting a thing stuck to the ceiling ina forest of stalactites isn't moving it anywhere.>
...
Yeah, I was hoping the blast might be able to knock it loose and towards the mouth of the Maw waiting down below

That hits
The human is grappled by the cthonic maw
Bite 23 for 22 piercing

Captain Sparhawk is near the human, and his aura will help (+4 to all saves).
