Gharzun plants his shield firmly and shifts his weight, eyes narrowing on the writhing fungal mass before him. The glow from its bioluminescent veins dances across his armor — and then he strikes.
His warhammer comes down with brutal force, the impact landing squarely in the center of the creature with a deafening crack. Divine energy surges through his grip as he channels radiant power into the blow, the runes along his gauntlet and weapon flaring brilliantly as holy light floods into the aberration.
“By the Vigilant Eye, return to the rot you came from!”
He pivots immediately for another swing, hammer arcing in a follow-through, but this time the creature shifts just enough and the strike glances harmlessly off its bulk. Gharzun adjusts his stance, ready for another opening.
Tenebril will move slightly while still staying high up to position himself better so that his blasts can help push these creatures back so they don't block our only way out.
"I think they're trying to block us in or escape from the screaming. I'm not sure I to take a chance it's the first one." And which that Tenebril hurls his eldritch blast at both of the remaining creatures.
He then tries to connect to his familiar to see if he can tell what's going on down that way (Bonus Action, Telepathic Connection, I'll then move Gloam higher up to get a better view and see what's going on. Gloam has Flyby in case he's within melee range of any of those creatures making the noise)
if needed for Tess, I'll have them do the same thing but this time telekinetic shove, DC 17 Str check, on the same one with Hex, disadvantage on Str Checks, and then Fire Bolt on whichever one is closest to them
<I love that it is mechanically necessary for me to say this. Not sarcasm, i actually do enjoy it.>
The barrage of attacks shoves the fungal fells to the far wall of the cavern. Sparhawk clses in as Tess and Tenebril blast wirh ranged attacks. As Sparhawk hacks at the mounds of mushroom, ending their animated antics, somwthing appears at the entrance. Two huge beetles rhe sixe of rhinos wnter the cavern, blocking the exit
Gloam doesnt respond. He was oretty squishy.
<tk calls for a save, so no DA from Hex. Web was actually a check to break it, so DA for that.>
(if it died within 100ft would I have been aware of it dying? I try not to send familiar beyond the 100ft so I can recall it if needed. And good to know on TK, thanks for that. And d yeah, I love it when they work in features like that. I'll be doing "Commune with Patron" before our next long rest so that should give you something else to have fun with lol)
<ive thoufgt about it and, you know what? The owl is pretty dast and pretry smart, im going ro say it lives, and it does so by rwturning swiftly the way it came. So, before the bwetles enter, the owl whooshes in through the entrance, followed closely behind by the beetles. So, here is a little retcon>
The shreiking continues as the adventureres finish iff the fungal threat. Sudenly Tenebril's owl familiar swoops back in theough the cavern openinf. Close on its tail, a beerle the size of a rhino crashes into the cavern, barreling after the owl, followed quickly by a second giant beetle, scitterimg over the fungal detritus. The pair's chitinous carapace gleams in the dim light as the skittering of their feet squishes through the muck of the cavern floor.
players are still up, the beetles are spent from Dash
(awesome, thank you. Question about Tess, is she usually a frontliner or range? I realized I didn't know which way she was being played. Someone else can take control of her if they know her better. Also how wide is the cavern entrance? I'm assuming both of them are 10x10 and are blocking it completely? I have an idea of what to do next but need to check that first)
Tenebril is glad to see his tiny owl buddy make it back alright. Then he sees what had Gloam is such a rush. Two Giant beetles come crashing into the entrance of the cavern.
(Ah ok, no worries, that's enough info for me to go on.)
Tenebril yells for everyone to head backs the back and he quickly cast a spell that sounds a foul as the results of the casting,Hunger of Hadar. Suddenly from behind the Beetles emerges a Darkness that quickly swallows the Beetles up. Everyone within 30ft of the darkness can hear what sounds like strange whispers and slurping noises coming from the darkness.
(I'm trying to drop it on the beetles without getting Tess or Kos in it. If the beetles are in the darkness they each take 21 Cold damage. If they end their turn in it, they need to make a DC 18 Dex save or take 12 Acid damage. Tenebril also has Devil's Sight so he can see into the new version of HoH)
In response to the chilling horror, the beetles make beetle noises, but they're barely audible above the eerie sounds of the abberant darkness filling the doorway.
Tenebril will yell to everyone where he sees the beetles at (Devil's Sight).
Tess will move to just outside the edge of the sphere of darkness ans will try to place herself within range of both beetles and will cast Spirit Guardians at 4th level. I'm assuming she's good aligned so they need to have a DC18 Wis ST or each take 15 radiant damage. Their movement is halved while in the aoe for the spell. I'll make sure to have her designate everyone traveling with the party as safe from it.
(OOC, what can I roll for Tenebril to try to remember if he's encountered these before or heard about them before? That would give him a better idea what he can relay to the group on how to attack them.)

OOC to DM:
Gharzun's hammer smashes the mushroom mound, bht its still twotxhimg. I do t rhink its dead yet.

Eldritch Beam 1: 16 Attack, 15 dmg, 6 Hex, Repelling blast 10ft back
Eldritch Beam 1: 12 Attack, 10 dmg, 1 Hex, Repelling blast 10ft back (I'm assuming miss?)
Eldritch Beam 1: 27 Attack, 13 dmg, 6 Hex, Repelling blast 10ft back

Sparhawk turns one pointed ear toward the screams, "Hum, I"m thinking undead, Tess, be ready!"
(FOR DM: If undead, Sparhawk will get a nauseous feeling (The "gift of Marduk")
Sparhawk moves his hunters mark to the damaged mound and again attacks, his sharp sword hacking off pieces of the thing with each stroke
27 to hit: 12 damage, second attack: Crit: nat 20: 26 damage.
Sparhawk does not feel nauseous

Its 10ft. One beetle would.be enough to.c9mpletwly block it. Im not repaoti g the map but it is updated.
the beetles are both just inside the cavern, Sparhawk js at the far end of the cavern from the exit, having just meleed the last fungus heap.

I guess. You can't see them.
They're beetles. You've seen beetles
Ah ok, I knew they were giant beetles so wasn't sure if he would know if he would know what type of senses they have.
Players are srill up. Big hunger of hadar full of giant beetles (2) at the door. Spirit guardians noted.
