And so she did just that, roving the long roads south, until at last she arrived in the small town that carried its fair share of troubles. She befriended other adventurers and together they rid the town of many afflictions… but the “promising new business venture” depends on reclaiming the lost Wave Echo Cave and its fabled Forge of Spells. She pulled it out and using that sword she was able to defeat that bear. So instead of being eaten, she was the one doing the eating. Finding the magic sword turned Frans life around. She was now a monster hunter! She calls the sword Master, and will talk to the sword. She acts like it's talking back, but no one else can hear it. Regardless of if the sword is actually coaching her or not, she is now a successful monster hunter.
This character is based on and heavily inspired by the Web Novel (and manga) "I Was a Sword When I Reincarnated". In that story Master is the main character and is a very powerful artifact that grows more powerful though the story. Since an Artifact is way beyond starting equipment, I picked something an uncommon sword that "talks" occansionally, the sword of warning. So it does "talk" to her to warn her of danger, the rest might just be in her head...

What brings you to Phandelver, and why would you join with the other adventurers to find the Wave Echo Cave? Urgojion is a sellsword, was a soldier previously. When the war ended in peace, Urgojion couldn't forgive those that had hurt so many he cared for in combat and had a hard time being peaceful with his once enemies and decided to go on into the world as a hired hand/cave diver. Phandelver is nothing more then his current location thstvhes passing through. The war was against those in the underdark and Urgojion prioritizes work underground.
The Cosmic Sock didn't originate from this realm; it slipped through a cosmic rift from a dimension where laundry reigns supreme. In this dimension, socks are the ultimate beings, revered for their unmatched power to disappear without a trace.
As the chosen sock of the Tubesock Overlord, The Cosmic Sock was imbued with the essence of the cosmos itself, granting it unfathomable abilities beyond the comprehension of mere mortals.

Khessa is primarily motivated by helping Common Folk in danger or difficulty and making progress in her long-term plan - freeing her family who were kidnapped by the Drow in a raid that destroyed her native tiny hamlet. Since 'all is not well in the town of Phandelver', she may have come there simply to help the community in difficulty. Among other things, saving a struggling settlement could also put her in a good light in the eyes of someone in the Lords' Alliance, a connection that may be useful for her long-term goals. Or, if the DM agrees, Khessa might be friends with an adventurer in the previous party (having quested with him before) and be worried about him.

When she was very young, Zania was abducted by a hag who planned to turn her into another one of those dreadful creatures... or maybe it was just going to eat her. It really wasn't clear which. But whatever the monster's exact intentions, it was quite clear that something awful would have happened if the village Witchfinders hadn't arrived in time to save the young girl from the clutches of the hag. Since then, Zania has trained with the Witchfinders, determined to repay her rescuers and to help rid her world of the scourge of the hags and similar dark mages.
Zania's main goal is to eliminate black magic wherever it rears its ugly head. If she has any reason to believe that there is dark magic in the Wave Echo Cave, she won't pass up the chance to stamp out whatever evil is within.
