Briar follows Rusty's lead, not wanting his armor to give them away either. The sight of the spider had sent a shiver down his spine, bad memories, but its presence only added a sense of urgency to their task. "That spider has gotta eat something. And I'd hazard those raiders aren't all too keen on being the something." he whispers. He readies a javelin. "Think you'd be able to get the drop on those guards, Aelin? We'll probably not get far if they raise an alarm."

But if you want to try with a javelin...Aelinn looked at him nervously Clerics apart from those of Mask tended to have a problem with thieves We might be able to pull it off. As the bard and rogue get ready for the fight Briar turns to Rusty and Felmar with a look of Shall we? and charges forth from the cover with his javelin.
To-Hit: min(nat-20, 19) + 4 = 23 Damage: 4+2 = 6 piercing //AAGGH! I saw the nat-20 and was like "Booyah!" only to remember they're 50ft up so no way to move within the 30 range so I'd be rolling with disadvantage.
Aelinn, only a few trees have taken root, yet vines hang from the mist slick rocks of the lower cliff face. As you leap onto a nearby outcropping, the boulder jutting from the cliff face provides a soft landing, its tuft of grass cushioning your feet.
The guards, unaware of your presence, are abruptly silenced. The first guard’s voice is cut short as an arrow pierces his throat, causing him to collapse. The second guard, too shocked to react, clutches his ears in pain, a quiet, short lived whimper escapes his lips. A javelin protrudes from his sternum, and he falls backward.
Despite the flurry of motion, the grotto remains eerily quiet. The constant trickle of water and the distant roar of a waterfall from within the lower cave serve as the only sounds. You hope that this natural symphony will mask any errant noises as you continue forward.
Felmar walks up ready to fire a bolt from his crossbow into the guards. Only to realize that they were both already dead. His shoulders slump ever so slightly and he lets out a barely perceptible “Oh.” He puts the crossbow away and approaches Rusty and Briar while they wait for the others to regroup.
“So, now what?”

As Aelinn begins climbing, Rusty watches her disappear. "Have you ever wondered what you could be called other than Rusty?" she had asked. That made it sound like people could decide what they wanted to be called. Was that something people did? He thought back to all he had ever known. His creator didn't change his name. The Blade didn't change his name. ... Or did he? All Rusty had ever known him as was The Blade, but is that what his mother named him at birth?
Briar's look calls the metal and wood man back to the task at hand, and he moves forward with Felmar, moving closer to the caves while looking up to where the guards were proposed to be. As the two fall dead, and Felmar expresses his disappointment, Rusty looks at the dwarf. "We ha-ha-ha-have aligned ourselves with deadly companions," he points out.
He says in reply to Felmar's query, "If there's a dozen or so raiders I'd be loathe to come across them all at once. Luckily we were able to take out these two to, hopefully, prevent the alarm being sounded." He looks over to Aelin and gives her a big thumbs up in thanks in addition to expressing appreciation to Krikas. "Now whether they were high up to have a better vantage of people trying to get into the cave or because they came from that door above is the question. But I'd hazard that spider offers some natural guarding." He looks towards the water-fog and then at Rusty. "My eyes aren't all that good in the dark. Yours? They're humans so odds are there's lights beyond. But we're already noisy enough in our armor that being in the dark and trusting the others for our eyes might be a course of action. Thoughts?"
(Wow. Just realised I didn't post damage results for DW. Did the spell go off or did the javelin kill him and no need to cast? Just seeking clarification for spell slot use)
She knew that Felmar, Rusty and Briar would take the initiative now. Here amongst the wild things she could stealth at will. Caverns now, caverns were not her favourite place as she found it difficult to disappear.
Backing the cavern wall she lightly ran along the ledge, then threw herself somersaulting towards the opening with a door. Acrobatics save 15+3+5= 23. She just about scrabbled around for a grip hands clasping the vine, then she realised that the vine she was pulling on was a rope ladder, unravelling down to the ground taking her with it. Dex saving roll 14 + 3 for 17. She flipped around so she was falling head first legs and arms clutching the rope. (OOC Think of special forces absailing down a rope headfirst). Just in time to hear Felmar and the others ready to enter the bottom cave.
"Torm guide your steps, Felmar." prays Briar,. thankfully for the dwarf's willingness to lead. He looks up as Aelinn descends gracefully to the ground. I doubt that javelin in the guard will be much use in there. May as well leave it for when we come back. he thinks to himself. "You're quite dextrous, even for an elf." he compliments while stowing the javelin in his hand to take out his warhammer. "Might you be part spider?" he quips with a wink, still impressed by the head-first dive on the rope ladder.
Turning to Rusty he falls beside the warforged, eyeing the fighter with curious eyes. "So, uh." he mutters before going quiet unsure of how to address such a being. He gives an awkward half-hearted smile and waits for the group to press foward.
Once the group is ready to enter, Felmar will begin marching into the cave. As soon as he crosses the entrance, he immediately begins to feel a sense of comfort that he has not felt in some time. The peace a dwarf feels with stone above his head is impossible to describe to one born under the sky. The blue expanse is beautiful to be sure, but the darkness under the ground is a dwarf’s true home. Nothing can ever quite compare. Despite the fact that he is leading a group into certain danger, Felmar hasn’t felt this at ease since his flight from Mirabar.
As they march, he is doing his best to be quiet in his clunky armor, while remaining alert to any possible dangers.

Felmar takes the lead, straight into the wall of fog and mist. The warm waters cling to his face, dripping immediately into the collar of his armor. Trickles streaming into his tunic, rivulets of prickly flesh. The air is humid, thick he can feel it. The light fades to a dense twilight, as the fog blocks the sun. A shimmer of light ahead calls forth. Thankfully the mist only gathers as thickly at the entrance, a large cavern cut back into the face of the cliff reveals itself. The sound of the waterfall crashes into a large pool in the middle of the room, the stream finding its source in the darkness of this cave.
The light comes from a large hole in the ceiling, only enough for a human to see their hand before their face. It is muffled, blocked by slates of wood. A lift has been raised to the ceiling, snugged into its upper bay. Torches above create a square, slotted halo of light over the water. The sound of laughter filters down, distant and faint but still there.
Felmars armor, now soaked and glistening rubs and tinkles as the links shift with every step. Stalagmites drip from above, some grown larger than a dwarf is tall. Several have created pillars in the back of the cave, tubes of rock formed as curtains along the ceiling between them. The floor is littered with little balls of stone, some as tiny drops, others the size of a fist. They are hollow and crunch beneath each step.
Towards the back, Felmar catches a slight movement, a flip of motion, a twitch. Again. A darker form against the blackness at the back of the cave. A form, obscured by the pillars and stone straws. An ear, it flips again as the head of a hound rises to regard the entrance. Another can be seen further on, a third covered behind a pillar slowly rises.
Your group relied on the waterfall to cover your entrance. It did, but feebly, Felmar is not the most stealthy of the group. You can hear several raiders laughing above you, seemingly unaware. The three hounds you can see are another matter. They have detected you and are sniffing at the air. Whether you attack, or decide to do something else, we will run it in initiative.
“I can see in the dark, but as was pointed out, me movements’re a bit clunky. But I can lead us if necessary," says Felmar to Briar.
"My si-si-si-sight is greatly limited in darkness," Rusty replies. "And un-un-un-unfortunately, I neglected to bring a-a-a-any torches."
Rusty follows the others through the waterfall. He is half aware that his many buckets collect some of the water, drenching the tiny treasures within. But, as usual, he does not react one way or another. The tiny pricks of light at the center of each of his eyes move around as he is faced with a great space of darkness. He takes in the halo of light above and is about to voice a question about the lift when he hears the sounds of movement ahead. He decides to remain silent.
"My si-si-si-sight is greatly limited in darkness," Rusty replies. "And un-un-un-unfortunately, I neglected to bring a-a-a-any torches."
"No worries." says Briar. "Worst case I can light the way."
"Could someone grab a ration from my bag? I'd rather not fuss with it when I can barely see in front of me." whispers Briar, "It probably wouldn't do us good for those hounds to start barking. And I'm not too confident we'd get lucky with silencing them all at once like with the guards." He whistles a soft tune to attempt calming the hounds. "Nice doggies. Nice doggies."
