King Sanguifluus says, "I was responsible, along with my two brothers who were also Kings, for ruling the Empire after the Ministers tricked the Triarchy and became prisoners of the Maze by the Medusa. The Empire fell into complete chaos and ruin. I am so ashamed of my failure. My brothers are dead, killed by the Medusa, and the Empire is lost. I just want to die, for I am cursed for all eternity. Pull out the swords. Let me rest."
The statues are about 5-7 feet tall, and appear to be..petrified humanoids of royalty. They all have looks of horror on their face. Perhaps people who were once important in the Empire?
As Jax hears the King's moans of anguish, and his simultaneous declaration of how he can't end it alone, the thought of removing the swords sit strong in her mind. "Does anyone have a piece of rope they could lend me? I want to try and lasso the swords in one way or the other. Getting close to him doesn't seem to be a good idea."
King Sanguifluus's rule was cut very abruptly when he could not re-establish order after the Minister's tricked the Triarchy and gave them to the Medusa, who imprisoned them somewhere deep in the Maze. As punishment, or perhaps just because she could, she petrified the entire royalty of the Empire and put the statues in this room as a reminder of the King's failure. What the Medusa and the Triarchy have in common is unknown at the point.
The swords the Medusa used to torture the King into a constant state of undeath are magical, you don't need a degree to see that they emanate power and have runes on them.
Goggick is watching from a distance. "I do not like the runes that are on the sword. Who knows what magic it will unleash if we release them..."
But Goggick is interrested in what else the king might have in this rooms. Staying in the shadows, he investigate the room for any hidden riches. Stealth: 8 Investigation: 17
I look over at Goggick. “Well mate, they look pretty powerful. May be worth hanging on to one for a furture problem we may cross.” Do i sense these swords are more powerful than the weapon I currently possess? If I can get a hold of one, I will take it.
Goggick, your stealth check is so terrible, you actually trip and knock over a few dishes, and a painting, triggering a random encounter roll to see if anything in the next room heard such an onslaught of noise. 52 No encounter. Lucky. But you did break a few valuable things, and that's going to cost everyone.
Dundur, if you wish to grab one of the swords, go right ahead.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
ZONE 1 - THE HALLS OF CHRONIA
ROOM 4 - SANGUIFLUUS
Ok, so a number of things happen. Dundur pulls out one of the swords. It's a short sword so yes, it's one handed. The King screams in pain and relief, and a VAPORIZED THANE, of one of his cursed brothers, erupts from his body, slashing at Dundur with it's hands.
Attack: 16 Damage: 5
As Joundral pulls his sword out with the rope, another VAPORIZED THANE erupts out, and launches itself at it's closest target, which is sadly, Dundur.
Dundur, yes, as long as you are proficient in simple weapons, which I assume you are, and that's what a short sword is, you get the +5. Your attack of 10 does not hit, though. However, as you grab the sword, you immediate attune to it. Here's what it says and does.
The sword is called PENUMBRA XENON. It's slightly transparent and green, like when you hold a thin leaf up to the sun. Anytime you hit anything with this sword, it does an additional 1d6 poison damage.
Keksi, here's the save roll against one of the Thanes: 9 a fail. Go ahead and roll the damage for the spell.
Percival, your attack hits, but it doesn't do much damage.

Yikes. You're not even in the same room with a roll like that, Percy. Come join us in the room with the cursed King. =P
"If you could, what could you tell us about these statues, your grace? They look rather horrifying, to be honest."
