After you pack up your things, you meet Balkham at the Rockseeker smithy. You hear the work of anvils and chisels in a back room while Balkham prepares the oxen for the ride.
"Meet Gundren at Barthen's Provisions in Phandy. He'll give you what gold upon delivery. I'm glad you up and took the job; Sir Hallwinter was adamant that was you I hired and offered me a extry few silver if I could convince the lot of you."
A shout from inside calls Balkham back to work, so he bids you farewell and hands Badger the reins.
You’ve spent the last two days following the High Road south from Neverwinter, and you've just recently veered east along the Triboar Trail. You’ve encountered no trouble so far, but this territory can be dangerous. Bandits and outlaws have been known to lurk along the trail.
You’ve been on the Triboar Trail for about half a day. As you come around a bend, you spot two dead horses sprawled about fifty feet ahead of you, blocking the path. Each has several black-feathered arrows sticking out of it. The woods press close to the trail here, with a steep embankment and dense thickets on either side.
Ash suggests, "Let me stealth ahead in the bushes to see if I can spot an ambush." He bounds into the woods to the north before waiting for a response.
The goblins hiding in the woods are oddly not too quiet at the moment, they are arguing about who gets how much of whatever they kill next. (Rolled a nat 1 on their collective stealth!)
Ash sees two to the north, both crouching behind shrubs and watching the road. They are waiting for K and Badger to get closer. They do notice Ash to their west despite his stealthy maneuvers. They know this environment and this exact ambush spot well and cannot be surprised here.
Badger and K both hear some small number of goblins each to the north and south of the trail.
Kristofferson: you dart north and east towards the sounds of the goblins, but will need to dash to get within melee. Else you do see both crouching behind shrubs and can perform a ranged attack, however they have half cover.
Badger watches K rush north, looks south, looks back at their 100gp provisions, grumbles, and readies a javelin ranged attack should a goblin become visible.
Goblin two screeches at the sight of goblin one's demise. He let's loose an arrow in Ash's direction. 17 to hit, 6 piercing damage. He then backs away 30' into the woods behind a new shrub.
Goblin three runs towards Badger to attack, triggering his javelin attack.
Badger javelin ranged attack: 21 to hit, 4 piercing damage
Goblin three shrieks, but continues forward with her attack. She slashes with her shortsword. 10 to hit. Badger blocks the slash with his shield.
Goblin four also peeks from behind its shrub to fire an arrow at Badger. 19 to hit, 5 piercing damage. The arrow finds its way past Badger's shield and into some exposed flesh.
K runs towards the remaining goblin to the north, using his action to dash (35' speed, so 70'), but ducks behind a trunk or shrub to gain cover, if possible.

"I was thinking another of the magical healing potions, just in case. The further we venture from Bramble, the more dangerous the world feels."
Ash pipes in. "We'll be fine. Plus, Badger knows some healing magic. Let's go." He starts towards the exit without waiting for a response.
Badger just looks at K, shrugs encouragingly, and follows Ash.

What do you do?
K would have been scouting ahead, so he calls back. "Halt. Something ahead is not right. Dead horses block the trail."
Ash suggests, "Let me stealth ahead in the bushes to see if I can spot an ambush." He bounds into the woods to the north before waiting for a response.
Stealth: 22
Badger halts the oxen. "Wait Ash!"
"Gods that boy is going to get himself killed. Let's get closer in case something goes wrong."
He dismounts from the wagon and pushes to with 30' of the horses, listening and watching for trouble in the woods to the north or south.
Perception: 22 (nat 20)
K follows Badger closely, keeping to the north to be closer should Ash need him.

Initiative:
Kristofferson, what would you like to do?
K will dart north into the woods, hoping to visually spot a goblin, and then making a beeline to it.
"Goblins, Ash!"
Am I within range of any?
Kristofferson: you dart north and east towards the sounds of the goblins, but will need to dash to get within melee. Else you do see both crouching behind shrubs and can perform a ranged attack, however they have half cover.
K flings a dart at the nearest goblin. 6 to hit (nat 1), 4 piercing damage.
K's dart sails wide.
Ash is up.
Ash responds sarcastically, "Oh goblins, you don't say?"
Can he get within melee?
Yes, Ash's full movement east will reach the first goblin.
Ash runs to the first goblin and slashes with his shortsword. 18 to hit, 8 slashing damage.
This goblin had a rusty shortsword and a shield, but was not able to use either in time to block your vicious blow killing the first goblin.
Badger is up.
Badger watches K rush north, looks south, looks back at their 100gp provisions, grumbles, and readies a javelin ranged attack should a goblin become visible.
