As you look at all of the houses, it seems unlikely that there is an easy way in. In fact, most are so buttoned up that they look ready to withstand the mightiest of thunderstorms.
Adric, you don't get any kind of sensation from your Divine Sense.
To the girl I say, “are you from here? Seems odd you wouldn’t know of anyone else in town if you lived here. I there anyway into your house? There doesn’t seem to be an easy way in. Do you happen to have a key?” I turn to the boy. “A monster you say. What sort of monster is in there?” I don’t trust the girl in the slightest....
"Yes, I'm from here. You didn't ask if I knew anyone, you asked if I knew where anyone was!" she says, her voice exactly what you would expect of a pre-teen kid. "If you are going in to get rid of the monster, the front door is unlocked, you can go right in. Just, don't make us go back." she says, her voice going back to the fear-tinged one from earlier.
Thorn looks up and squeezes his stuffed doll closer to his chest. "I don't know mister, honest, but it howls. Oh how it howls! Mommy and daddy kept it in the basement, we weren't supposed to go down there. They said the monster would eat us if we did!" he says, through sniffles and tears.
Reed, surprisingly the girl seems perfectly honest. You don't sense any kind of shiftiness in her voice, hesitation, or any other signs of dishonesty.
Adric doesn't like to see anyone in distress, least of all innocent children. "Don't be scared, we aren't going to make you go back there." And if the rest of my friends are willing, I think we can take care of your monster problem rather quickly."

“Before we take care of this beast, where are your parents!?” I feel a rush to action. Must be my Belmont blood and the feeling of the occult drawing me. I remove my mace and shield waiting for the girls answer. A quick prayer to Torm, grasping the holy symbol. Give me protection from the unnatural and the fiendish. I begin heading toward the door without checking if the others are following. I have no time to convince the others..... I must make haste. I stop st the front door for a moment to listen for something.... anything.....
"Mommy and daddy are probably in the basement. Making sure the monster doesn't escape." Rose says, relief in her voice from Adric's resolute words.
Reed, you approach the portico and push open the wrought-iron gate, its rusted hinges shrieking like a banshee in the mists. As you check, you do notice a pair of heavy oil lamps hanging from the portico ceiling, though they are low enough to flank a set of highly polished oaken doors with gleaming brass handles. Were it truly sunny out, the glimmer would be as bright as a valiant knight's armor.
That said, you hear nothing inside. Silence. Preternatural silence.
I slowly push open the doors peering inside, scanning every inch I can see, until the opening is wide enough for me to enter into the house. My grip tightens hard around my mace, my knuckles turning white. My shield raised up with the symbol of Torm proudly displayed on the front towards my enemies. I take in a deep breath, exhale. I ready my nerves with a big gulp to clear my throat and............ (I wait for the others to post thier actions. I don’t want to hijack the game)
Gralwynn, seeking aid, listens closely near the doorway for the familiar sounds of scurrying, of squeaking, screetching, and tiny heartbeats. She listens for rats, or in their place, mice.
(OoC: Don't know which kind of roll you want for this; nature, perception or investigation, so I'll just do a vanilla roll, and write out my respective bonuses, tell me which one you want to use)
I push my way into the first room readied to defend myself from an attack. I move in far enough to allow the rest of the members to fall in behind me. I take a knee and begin searching through my bag for a torch. I stop if someone else cast light or had a natural light source. I try focusing my eyes in the darkness. I feel around in my pack grabbing a torch, not yet removing it. (I’m assuming I can’t see anything at this point)

"It disturbs me greatly knowing that a young child is alone in this house. Whether you guys would like to look for the so called monster first, that is up to you. But I am saving this child."

(We have moved pretty quickly thus far. In my experience, the first week or so of a new PBP game is the fastest it moves. Then it slows to a more realistic long-term cadance as life digs in. :) )
REed, you push into the next room, where it is still pitch black. Indeed, there isn't much of anything you can see, though you are able to find the handle of a torch easily enough in your pack.
Those with darkvision that are moving up to the doors can see inside.
There is a shield hanging on the wall to the right of the entry, with a golden windmill on a red field, though the colors are very muted in the dark. Fifteen feet across from the entry is another pair of doors, these framed in mahogany with dark tinted glass panes set inside.
Gralwynn, as you bend to listen for the small creatures you would expect to live in a house of this type, you notice again that haunting absence of sound. It would seem the vermin of this world are not there in any capacity.
Gralwynn, visibly rattled at this, takes up position behind Reed, lights his torch with her tinderbox, then whispers into his ear
"This place does not seem right, very dead. Even the caron-pickers are not here. If the 'beast' in the basement proves too much, drop the torch and run, I'll try to bring this house-corpse down on it."
To the rest she barks: "The cat and small one should look for the child, I know scary things when I see them, and you are a scary thing. Best come to fight this "beast" with the rest of us than scare a child into further hiding in this mouse-trap of a house!"

Reed, as you peer into the open door, you are met with a black space, pitch black. The light from outside doesn't seem to provide any illumination.
Gralwynn, with a slight snicker, pats Reed on the back, casting the Guidance Cantrip on him.
"After you, my anxious friend"
Adric is going to follow Gralwynn and Reed.

Finlan turns to the group, I say we help these guys! I'd love to fight a big scary monster!

Oh right! We should probably go grab their younger brother before we do anything else. Finlan agrees as he follows Sylvana.
