Hello! I'm currently looking to do a proof of concept for a minigame I've used over over the table a could times. Wanting to see whether it works in an internet format! The concept is simple - instead of character sheets, every player has a simple backstory. Points are used whenever a check would be required in other games, and guarantee success at the task. Harder tasks use more points. The entire party shares a pool of points (40 per player) and when used, they can't be replaced. When the character's backstory would equip them for completing a task, it costs half as many points for them.
Taking Part:
Hoping to recruit 4-5 players able to post once a day, each with a 100ish word backstory suitable to an Ancient Greek mythology setting. Demigod or monster character submissions are absolutely accepted, but not required - keep it appropriate to a level 1 D&D backstory. An accompanying bit about yourself would be awesome too (really just anything you'd want to share, or I might find useful to know)!
Story Setting:
In an age where legends are made and monsters walk the earth, a quiet life is the greatest challenge of all. Over the past months, you've all been plagued by prophetic dreams. Images of heroic deeds and untimely deaths have been etched into the lids of your eyes, turning rest into an uneasy promise that you are determined to break. Each of you have found your way to a cave on the outskirts of Delphi, rumoured to contain a path to the home of the Fates. Your task is simple: enter their abode, find the destinies woven for each of you and alter them to something a little less legendary.
At the mouth of the cave, you will find one another and resolve to work together on this common cause.
I'll get back in about a week to confirm spots, but please ask any questions in the meantime and I'll reply ASAP! Thank you in advance!!!
Cytheia is a descendant of Selene. From her she has several gifts, she always knows the location and phase of the moon, can see in the dark, and can draw upon the energy of the moon to power potions and minor workings. She grew up in Gavros, near Crete.
In her youth, she learned the worship of the gods, the herbs for medicine and potions, and the making of such potions and workings. She learned how to survive in the wild and in cities, self-defense, and daggerwork. She excelled at using a combination of daggerwork, distractions, deceptations and hiding to defeat her opponents.
After she began having dreams, she headed to Delphos. After an adventure to get there, there she stands.
(Closest I could get to 100 words. Turns out that a lot less than a person might think. I can edit to add stats if needed, and I have a much longer one if you want more info about family and how she grew up.)
I can post at least once everyday, and often at least twice or more.
Sweet innocent Leif Aulderoot a dangerously curious and naive forest gnome, apprenticed to Zelfin an ambitious human necromancer. Zelfin, interested in gnomish magical aptitude took Leif under his tutelage. Leif diligently studied practiced and communed with entities beyond his keen. One fateful day an awakening in Leif’s mind offered a path to true power. Leif made a deal and has never been the same…
Leif Aulderoot is a forest gnome possessed by a great old power from beyond this realm. At times he is in control, however when his life is threatened or at other seemingly random times the power within emerges. Leif has done some horrific things, and if possible, would sever the ties that bind him.
-Went a little over, but introducing Leif. I’m a fan of Greek mythology but not like a hard core trivia buff. My favorite stories are about Orion Artimus and Apollo.
Hello! The bare-bones rules system you describe is intriguing. I love simple rule sets and the freedoms they allow. Also, serendipity: I have been recently thinking about the ancient Greeks, although I haven't read anything specifically about them since Fagles' The Iliad. I'm an avid PbP'er, at least as far as creating a collaborative narrative goes.
I find myself somewhat disappointed with the culture of min-maxing and the FOMO-like feeling of not min-maxing.
PbP is tough too because folks have a way of ghosting games. Probably just kids being kids, but still, it can really drain inertia. Still, hope springs eternal, and I'm trying my hand at focusing on being a player rather than DM'ing in recent months. Here is my submission and I hope you choose me for your PbP story!
Sia sank onto his haunches, focusing intently as the azure waters caressed his feet and rose to kiss his shins. Moments later, when the wave retreated from the tide pool, a tactile maze of eroded sandstone and barnacles surfaced, and... there. The source of the reflected rainbow glint Sia had spied from the beach, held tightly by a fist-like curl of seaweed. A blade. Sharper than any he’d ever seen, its grip, inlaid with mother-of-pearl and, could it be? Gold. A true warrior’s weapon.
Sia's eyelids were slitted shields against the noonday sun as he scanned the horizon, the shore. No one.
I like what D&Dsince1973 had to say so I'd like to join as well.
I'd like to introduce you to...
Eximus Animus
Eximus is a centurion who has just finished a tour of duty. Hoping to put the horrors of battle behind him, he has returned to his childhood home near Delphi. Finally home but sadly not at rest. He is plagued by the memories of things he saw in battle. Nearly crippled by the dreams the farm falls into disrepair. Realizing that something drastic must be done he once again takes up his sword, dons his centurian helmet, breastplate and shield, and prepares for a journey. A week's worth of provisions and some basic gear are packed on his horse, Argento. He leaves the farm knowing that it's fate is the same if he doesn't return or if he stays. He sets off. His destination? A cave of legend said to lead to the fates themselves. Eximus vows to find them, change his fate, lift these dreams, and let him live in peace.
Hello a little about me. Lot of table top experiance, Even tried a hand at designing one myself once upon a time, You can easily see by my post history I'm a frequent poster. I've had campaigns on here go for years (one went 4 and another 2). From other threads I think I can do some good stuff with a couple of these submissions. Looking at you DandD, Hunter, Princess. So hopefully you'll give us all a shot. Thanks
First - I have played D&D since the late 70s and then off and on since then. Exposed to other games and systems. Been PbP-ing for the last 3? years exclusively.
Second - like the Greek mythology concept but, then spent alot of time wrestling on who and how a character would be 'looking for less adventure in their life'...

As the stories are told, there are a group of women who dedicate themselves to the hunt. The Hunters of Artemis swear loyalty to the goddess Artemis in joining nature, the hunt and staying a virgin. Hence why they tended to turn to other women for their needs of companionship and 'other activities'.
Suffice to say, my mother, Sophia, was once such a hunter. She spent her teens and young adulthood in nature, hunting and protecting. Until that one fate filled day when she was tracking a monster that had been ravaging farms, livestock, and families in the area. Sophia found herself ill matched to take down the beast and felt she was about to die when a figure appeared that turned the tide of the conflict. Between the two, man and woman, they defeated the beast and spent time together healing and recovering around the campfire. 'Things happened' and they spent the rest of that night together. Sophia returned to the wood and reported on her success against the beast but never spoke of the man that helped her.
Six months later, mother could no longer hide her changing body from the other hunters. She broke down and told of her encounter with 'the Stranger'. She was banished from the Hunters and the woods for her failure to 'stay chaste'. Shunned and ashamed, Sophia left the wood and travelled far afield before settling in a fertile valley with a small wood nearby.
Once I, Omiros, was birthed, Sophia raised me to know the land, nature and the use of the short sword and bow. I must admit, before fully a teen, I could take down a charging boar with a single shaft. It was only after the months of prophetic dreams and sleepless nights, did Sophia decide I should travel to Delphi and seek the wisdom there. The morning of my leaving home, Sophia told me of my 'origin' and revealed that the man she had slept claimed to be Apollo, twin brother of Artemis. Oh how the gods love to toy with mortals!
<<< well sh**... I exceeded 100 words before the middle of the second paragraph. *facepalm* >>>

Artemis (indirectly) and Apollo (directly), using a bow would only be natural.. so Omiros will one day become a ranger. Hunter? Monster Slayer? some form of walker or stalker? Who Knows but the Gods?
Akkalos is a farmer, like his father and grandfather. Mismanaged badly by his father, the farm was in a bad shape when Akkalos inherited it. With nothing more than a few coins and hard work, Akkalos has restored the land and the farmhouse to almost pristine condition. Some in town say that Akkalos and the farm have been blessed by Demeter. This notion is one that Akkalos rejected. He believes firmly that hard work and his dedication to the family farm are what made it prosper. He has never been one to believe in the gods. He still makes the dedications of course, but only out of tradition and respect. He believes only in what he sees, but it was curiosity that drove him to the cave. With some off time until the harvest season begins, what's the risk of a tiny journey to soothe his mind?
Fimbulvelter, a pankreation champion, known for his physical prowess has been receiving visions of his victory over one of the gods, and knowing they would kill him, goes to a place that could change his fate for better or for worse
originally a blacksmith before he got into fighting, minor knowledge of fermenting and cooking, roughly 19
I LOVE GREECE!!! May I ask what period of Ancient Greece this would be set in, if historically accurate? This looks cool :) I’d probably just be playing a non demigod or monster and I can post around that much.
As for fun facts about myself, I’m a huge fan of Greek history (unfortunately I know less about the mythos of the ancient pantheon in comparison), my favorite Ancient Greek was either Herodotus or Perikles, and I hope you include lions in this story as a fun history tidbit :))

As for a character concept… I’m actually thinking a centaur would be really cool. A centaur training to compete in the Olympics, trying to escape the whole “archery and medicine” stereotype. He lives in the upper mountains of Phokis, training for wrestling and other sports optimistically (though centaurs are likely not allowed to compete). Seeing all these prophetic dreams about dying in battle are turning into nightmares for him, and he seeks the Fates to find a solution to this that won’t end in some heroic journey hopefully. He’s a very big fan of Athens and Athenian culture, but is more of a Korinthian at heart.

This will be more vibes based than historically accurate, so feel free to go with whatever feels right!
Born as the son of the chieftain’s daughter and Hephaestus, god of the forge, Galis was raised in a small, isolated village located at the base of a volcano. HIs father taught him what he knew as both a warrior and blacksmith. From a young age, Galis’ godly parentage became obvious as he gained demigodly powers. Fiercely loyal and driven by honour, Galis now protects his people, wielding the fiery strength of his divine father and the determination of his mortal heritage. Though powerful, he grapples with the balance between his human desires and his divine destiny.
[A shadow on the street. The crack of a twig. A swish in the air. A scream of pain. This is all that most people would know of me. I'm all right with that.]
Broshin is a son of Hecate, goddess of black magic. He inherited her magic, but only in part. He's a skilled assasin, the darkness folds around him like a cloak. His steps are whispers, his form is a shadow. Though he has a heart of gold, it has been buried beneath miles of stone and shadow. He's lived his life as a bounty hunter, a killer, and he ventures to the caves to find a higher purpose.
This sounds very interesting, I’m glad there are several interested as the more players the more points which seems very important in our narrative goal. Just curious what a single point can accomplish?

Most things will cost 2 points at a minimum, so it can be halved when appropriate. 2 points would get you something like kicking open a door, persuading the bartender to give you a free drink or tripping a guy up. Easy enough stuff where success still isn't guaranteed. Then one point would be for someone who used to be a bartender, who could realistically get that drink a little easier etc

I know I posted something already but...
A Yuan-ti ? Upper torso human; lower torso snake. Relatable with Lamia like medusa or the echidna. (don't need the snake hair though!)
Perhaps a fighter of note... or another archer or... a bard?
If spells are allowed with shapechange you can turn into a marilith.
